chinese on a treadmill

NELIE - Just trying to imagine learing Chinese while working out. I was there a year and only learned to shop, get to the trainstation, and order a cold bottle of beer. Of course, I was there to teach English and spent all my time teaching everyone including the people on the bus, in the dining hall, at the stores, and on and on.

Chest and triceps today. Not my favourite day. But besides that ... I'm doing great today! Good food and the dreaded cardio ... which wasn't bad.

WaterRat 03-15-2006 07:40 PM

I'm learning more about my body every day. Sigh. I don't feel 61, but I am. I'm learning that I just cannot push myself physically just because I want to mentally. Of course I can get past that point where I know I'm not exercising hard enough, because that is a head problem, not a body problem. But I exercised hard on Monday (30 min cardio, followed by an hour long body pump class), and went back yesterday for more cardio. I did it, and I did it at the intensity I wanted, but my body was really screaming :tantrum: about it from the half way point on. I had planned the same tonight, but I've changed my mind. I don't need to either run myself down or burn myself out. Maybe I tried to increase the frequency too fast. I'll try just adding one session for a couple weeks, then another. Gotta sneak up on the old body I guess.

I'll be back for another BP class Thurs night, and cardio on Sat morning. Weights on Sunday, then a plane ride to Boston overnight, and hopefully some cardio ( :tread: or swimming - hotel has a pool!). After that it'll depend when I have time free from conf sessions, but my hotel is right next door to the conf center, so theoretically possible to slip back during the day for some :workout:

Another hour of cardio this morning, I do like the elliptical which has a cross training program. I do have to watch it when it stops and goes in reverse though. Lower body workout, fine, but my left shoulder is aching. Between the presses and the squats, I think I did a pretty good job of increasing the weights. Also the walking lunges, I was able to do 6 more with good form. Hate them but supposed to love the results.

PAT - It is cold here in Boston, so dress warmly. We do have lots of sun though.

Food is ok, need to watch those nibbles more carefully. The asparagus last night was delish, just perfect and went well with the steak. No ab workout, just didn't get on the floor and do it while watching Biggest Loser - washed dishes during the commercials instead so I wouldn't have to face them this morning. LOL.

Grocery shopping this afternoon, so I am on the lookout for some lean protein and veggies. For some reason the oatmeal in my house is increasing and not decreasing with use, I am thinking I double bought or something and then stuck the extra in a different place that has just surfaced, what is up with that. Probably time to clear out the kitchen and take stock of what we really do have. The stuff seems to creep up on me. Unfortunately, it usually isn't the low carb stuff.

Hi LWL,

I had a good day at work today. I stayed long enough so I do not have to continue at home today. I can fill the rest of my hours from home tomorrow. Also i plan to workout tomorrow either at the gym or at home. I'll have to skip yoga class because of another priority, now just to scedule something different.

Speaking of which, I've just remembered that I still have to put in my meditation session for today. So far I have done half an hour aech day this week, and I think it really helps with the head issues.

Pat - Good work from to sneak your body into more workout, and good to take your pace about it. the Boston conference sounds fun! I hope you will enjoy yourself!

Have a great day all,
Rabbit

Very makeshift and half hearted back and biceps today.
The good news is I CAN feel pecs today! I don't very often feel like I'm doing much chest-wise. But I do today.

WaterRat 03-17-2006 12:29 AM

Two small NSVs today.

1. While my weight wanders around in the same 3 lb range, today I was able to tuck a flannel shirt into my jeans, and wear it that way all day! :)

2. Our body pump instructor didn't show tonight, but those of us there continued with a workout anyway - mostly arms and upper body, and no music, but hey - we didn't blow it off. I got about 15 minute of :tread: too while waiting for class to begin...

Hi LWL,

Pat- Good of you & your classmates to take the initiative and do a class without instructor !

Just zooming by, I do not know if i will be able to excercise today... a lot of other things on the list.

Have a great day all,
rabbit

Last night, I went out to eat and I did something I never did before. I ate half my dinner. Not 70%, not 60%, but 50%. Not only did I do that, but then I started rationalizing to myself that I could have dessert. My BF also told me I could have one if I wanted. Usually he is the one that helps keep me in check in the grocery store, he'll read labels with me and such but he has a tendency to think it is ok to have dessert in a restaurant. I then told him I didn't want one and so we left, not feeling stuffed with me having half my dinner and him having nearly half. Oh and sometimes restaurants desserts really don't look all that great but this restaurant did :)

Half day for the kids today, so my SIL has both her son and my daughter, 5 months apart and at an age they get along well. Then I pick them both up and drag them off to the Penszy's spice store and home for baking.

PAT - impressed that you didn't let the absent instructor keep you from working out.

I am thinking I am coming down with something, fell asleep last night about 8:30 and woke up at 6 am, that is very odd. but I am going to make up for the lack of going to the gym with baking Irish Soda Bread (upper body workout) and cookies, well that doesn't help anything but DD and I will have a good time.

NELIE - I do well with eating half the portion at restaurant, it isn't really that hard to get used to at least for me, though I am still working on the pub drafts, I love a good beer. So while I can skip dessert no problem, I am a sucker for something interesting in a pint glass.

Hello all!

Haven't got round to lifting anything heavy yet this week - and it's not looking hopeful, but you never know!

On lifting day, I didn't get home from work till 9pm. It was worth it though, to go and see my little sweetie ballerina (attached pic) and see her dancing in the frame I designed. It's not quite finished yet, it needs to be VERY pink! ;)

Had a bit of a crappy day today - my bike cover was stolen last night. For the second time. It's gone the same way as my tax disk. :rollpin: I'm going to move my bike to a different car park level where the smack heads can't get to it. THEN I got an E-MAIL from my oldest friend to say he's WORKING on my wedding day. And he'll only be able to get there for the last little bit of the party. Right. Thanks.

Oh and kickboxing last night was really fun. I did loads of stuff for belt tests and things and then my instructor asked me when I wanted to do it, so I said Saturday. That's tomorrow :yikes: I don't have time to worry! Going to go home in an hour and cook pork and apple stir fry and maybe something nice and yummy. Possibly baked apple with some low fat custard and maybe some oats on top to make a "crumble".

I think I might just curl up in the bath with a good book later, just need to be a hermit!

We're out with friends on Saturday and I have to do wedding things on Sunday, a confirmation letter to the venue and I'm going to print off my "save the date" cards, but SOME people have already got that date saved for something else... :tape:

Here I am bring up the rear for this week :)
Shoulders and abs today.

nelie 03-19-2006 04:45 PM

First time I've exercised this entire week and I did legs. My school is wrapping up so I don't expect any more crunch time that'll interrupt with exercise for a while. I also did 16 minutes on the elliptical today.
