Question Tingling feet and toes HELP

Just started lifting (machines) and cardio (treadmill, elliptical, etc) on Dec 27th after years of neglect to my old body. I used to be very active and have never experienced the tingling sensation in my feet I get now when exercising. I'm 42, 5'4" and 180lbs, I have replaced my shoes, tried inserts, padded socks, etc with little to no relief. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue. What do you think is going on?? Thanks for your help

First, I'd suggest you see your Dr. I don't want to alarm you but that could be a sign of several things, one being diabetes. How is your diet and blood pressure? Do you have any pinched nerves or pain elsewhere when exercising? Are you wearing comfortable clothes? It's also pretty important to start slow and work up to vigorous exercise. It sounds like it could be a circulation issue, but there's really no way to know. If you've tried several things, I'd urge you to see your doc. Just to be safe.

Hmmm...unless your shoes are laced too tightly, I second Qadira's suggestion that you go see your doctor.

I get this sometimes when I do long walk on the treadmill or the eliptical but not any other time. My doctor chalked it up to sedentary lifestyle coupled with a lot of extra weight on my feet. However, I did notice that it does not occur when I run outside. Although I may be wrong, I think it's because I don't "extend" my feet as much on the treadmill (just repetative motion) and outside my feet have to conform to uneven ground etc.

My feet can go numb if I'm on the elliptical, which starts with tingling. I have found certain shoes make it happen quicker and also moving my feet to a different spot every once in a while on the elliptical prevents it from happening. I would recommend you seeing your doctor as well.

Thank you for your input. I will be calling my DR, just thought I would ask around to see if anyone else has this issue. I'm finding that it is very common in runners.

I have the same probelm as Nelie - my feet get tingly on the elliptical and the bike. Just shuffling about a half inch every few minutes seems to help me. Hope the fix is as simple as that for you, too.

Depending upon where the tingling is, it may be plantar facitis, due to the new strain on your plantar muscle, which stretches across your arch area, from the ball to the heel. I got it when I started doing alot of walking. Stretching the calves a few times a day helped enormously. Orthotics are also helpful.

I've been known to go numb in parts of my feet after long walks or runs. It wouldn't hurt to see your doctor, but if it goes away right after you work out and doesn't hurt that much, it's likely just your body getting used to the exercise, IMO.

I have had the same issues with tingling feet while on the elliptical trainer & other similar machines. I usually shuffle my feet around and it helps. I think it is due to our feet being in the same position for a long period. Once I get off the machine it stops, so I have never let it concern me.

Have a GREAT day!

Smile No more tingling feet

Thank you all for your input. All is well, no more tingling feet. For me, I chalk it up to ...too much, too soon, too FAT!! I'm going to lay off the cardio machines until I get my weight down. I'm swimming for cardio. Thanks Again
