week of 20-27 september 2004

Hello all,

after lurking for a week because of sick boyfriend (barely had time for the gym but did go), I can now announce that we are definitely going to move house around the 22 October so we've been packing boxes all weekend.

Yesterday I went for a long walk as the weather is still beautiful.

I have also decided to start studying again, and change carreers into dietician. Might as well make an obsession (haha) into a job. The French government has really good and Europe-wide approved internet education so my degree will be a real valid one. The fees (without books) are about 400 $ so that's ok too. I'm planning to start next year...

For now, have a good start of the week,

lieke

I just got home from night shift again ... and wanted to pop in and say "Happy Monday" to everyone.
It's only 0800 here and I've already had 700 calories! So I'd better either sleep long enough so that I don't need to eat very many more times, or wake up early enough to have a good work out and walk.
I did a bunch of that nasty 'boredom eating' over night. Yick. Thankfully my arms and shoulders ache nicely from my workout yesterday and remind me what I'm all about. And it ain't saltines!
Eat well and lift in good form! Night all!

goeatanapple 09-20-2004 08:50 AM

Hello, I am new to this forum ... Lieke, congrats on you decision! I, too, have decided after a long time of indecision to make personal training/dieting my career and thus something I can help others with after my own journey. But first, more weight to lose and lean body mass to gain!! Good luck!!

Airegrrrl 09-20-2004 12:00 PM

Good morning and happy Monday all! Gorgeous day here in Central Indiana -- sun shining; about 70. Absolutely perfect. I can't decide whether I should go to the gym or take a really fabulous walk. Since I've had one long walk already today (this morning, with the pooch), I guess I better hightail it over to the gym and work those legs. Maybe do a few yoga poses as well.

Lieke and Goeat, what a grand decision!! There's nothing better than combining passion and profession. And congrats on the upcoming move! And welcome Goeat

Cindy, I saw you pop in at the end of last week's thread -- great to see you. Hope your travels go well.

Hi SusanB, and all those yet to post.

srmb60 09-20-2004 07:01 PM

Checking back in for accountability. I'm soooo tired. I thought I had to work tomorrow so I got up at noon (3.5 hours sleep) but now I don't have to and it wouldn't have hurt anything for me to sleep a little longer.
I've eaten a way too much today. Actually averaged out it's only 100 cals per hour I've been awake. Is that reasonable logic?
I did have a wonderful walk, got sun burnt and had a satisfying ab work out. I love my new ball!
Congratulations to you two on continuing your education.
Hi Robin!

goeatanapple 09-21-2004 08:39 AM

Thanks everyone :) ... worked my poor muscles SO HARD! I have really been pushing myself in the last few weeks and I'm very happy with my progress, considering I had a cold for a week - I am increasing the weights on all my weights exercises almost by weekly increments. And been lifting to failure alright!

I can't believe it! This chick at work who has GREAT guns said she's stopped lifting weights because her muscles were getting too big! I wish mine were big :D

srmb60 09-21-2004 08:54 AM

Morning all. I'm feeling my better this am. I slept just over 9 hours! I'm going to do some research about abs today. I thought I was doing good but this morning ... if I stretch, I can feel them but they don't ache like my legs and shoulders do after I've worked them.
I'm kind of afraid I'm out growing my dumbells and things. It's been a month. Hmmm.
Any input on that would be appreciated.
Thanks all, just for being here!
Morning Goeat!

Teddy Tuesday

I just can't breath from allergies and if I take anything stronger will just be asleep all the time. I am taking a break from lifting and am giong to concentrate on the cardio until I feel better. The allergies hit me like a truck on Saturday, first I am doing ok then my head exploded. Allergies late in life are sort of bad, I don't know what to expect, I am way down on the learning curve. LOL. :p

Food was a mess on my knitting weekend, but hey, knitting was great. We entertained ourselves with watching Miss America in the evening. Great fun all around. I did feel a little guilty as my husband was at his mom's dealing with her knee replacement, the house, our child and installing motion sensor switches. I guess I owe him one. ;)

LIEKE - I think that everyone should do what they like and hopefully what they are good at. Otherwise, you can be in an occupation you may make a lot of money, but it is such a grind. I love what I do, if only I could relocate a couple of co workers. ;) Happy packing.

SUSAN B - I hope your remaining Monday calories were high quality ones.

My daughter's school is launching a wild campaign against obesity. They have decided, with parent's council, to not serve any soda or candy at any school events or functions, and to request that all treats be fruit or veggie based. I am collecting ideas for the weeks I provide snack to the class, and luckily I have November, so I plan on sending in an apple corer, and washed apples for the teacher to prepare ( i asked, she is fine with it), along with peanut butter, no allergies and celery, raisins, stuff like that. Though my daughter really loves Cheetos, she only eats about a third of a single serving at a time, those won't fly in the classroom. She also wants to take bananas, I wonder how many bananas 20 kids would eat?? I was considering pretzels, maybe they would be considered too salty, it is so hard to be so politically correct with food. :(

Unfortunately, I see the obesity in the kids and when we went to DD's soccer kickoff, no overweight kids there, all slim, active and healthy kids, I think maybe that the heavy weights were home watching cartoons.

I am doing some walking this afternoon, I am working until midnight, so it will be very doubtful I will get to the gym in the am, though being out in the air with allergies, not too bright either.

ROBIN - Decisions decisions, and to know that later on it will be cold and grey outside, so why not save up a bunch of good weather walks now. LOL.

Off to have a coffee with a friend, her daughter and mine were in class together last year and we found each other. It is a nice break from the office.

Liza

tikanique 09-21-2004 10:46 AM

Hi all!

Sugar Cube - I like your DD's school idea about not serving unhealthy snacks. I try to really limit how much sugar my crew gets at home because their school just will NOT put limits there - they make too much money from junk food sales.

Good luck GEAA and Leikie on your career choices. Study hard, I know you both will be fabulous.

My weekend started off great foodwise but took a BAD turn Sunday night and all day Monday. I also skipped the gym Monday (was home sick) and this AM. To make up for it, I will have to hit the gym 5 days in a row to get all my muscle groups in. I can do this, I can do this.

Tiki.

2sw33t 09-21-2004 11:19 AM

Hi all!

I'm in the process of finalizing my new workout routine. I've got the cardio vs. weight days figured out, but I need to choose exercises and set/rep combos for the weight days.

I did a 2-mile run for time yesterday, and was rather disappointed - it was worse than a year ago (and that was pretty bad!), so I guess I need to start monitoring lap times. I get too lazy when I don't pay attention to time... though it's nice to just go for a jog at a comfortable pace. Hopefully, doing sprint intervals once a week will help with my speed, as well.

I know something I've done has worked my inner thighs, since they've been sore the last couple of days, but I'm not sure what. The only that's been different so far was the sprint intervals on Sunday. Oh well.

Food has been up and down - the weekends are a killer (I had a turkey dinner at my mom's on Saturday and ate too much stuffing and mashed potatoes - not mention the apple pie), so I think I need to tackle that challenge next. Any ideas on how to get weekend eating under control?

Sugar Cube 09-21-2004 03:27 PM

DD's school took out the soda machine, and have turned the kids into health machines as far as I can tell. My daughter asked me in a very loud voice why someone was smoking recently, like somehow the person hadn't gotten the message it was bad for them. I just don't want her to get a bad reaction to her question.

JCH - when I get my weekend eating under control I'll let you know how I did it. Actually I know how I do have a successful weekend, I stay positive, workout early in the am and plan. I don't let things distract me because I have a list of things to do, and when I am washing down the kitchen walls to paint them, I just don't feel like dipping into the kid's treats.

Liza

goeatanapple 09-21-2004 05:41 PM

Hi all! Worked real hard at the gym last night, really feeling it today ... my arms are killing me, my abs are killing me, my legs are killing me, my back is killing me :) I don't yet separate my weights so I am doing everything all together 3 x a week. Soon, I'd like to separate upper and lower body work over six days at the gym, alternating, with cardio interspersed between. I will need to join a gym closer to home though!

I was sick last week so I am SO glad to be back in the saddle!

Question about cardio - I work my legs SO hard that sometimes it makes my cardio a bit tough straight after my workout, and even the next day when I jump on some gym equipment at home. What can you do?

3fcuser1058250 09-21-2004 06:48 PM

Hello gang  ....

I've been working and it's keeping me away from having time to post :o ... so finally I get a moment. I haven't been to the gym since last Thursday! I jogged Sunday morning and it was awesome! Food has been so-so! What can ya do when life gets in the way? :p Hopefully tomorrow I'm back at it full force since I'm working only till 12:30  ... Someone mentionned allergies and I think they triggered mine  ..... I'm sniffling like crazy all of a sudden...

GEAA you asked:
Quote:

Question about cardio - I work my legs SO hard that sometimes it makes my cardio a bit tough straight after my workout, and even the next day when I jump on some gym equipment at home. What can you do?
On really heavy leg days if I wobble down the stairs to the cardio room, I don't do any cardio, to me you're legs are telling ya that they've had enough... If it hasn't been a heavy leg day and I feel good I'll do some but not alot, just enough to work up a good sweat...Some other times I think I feel like doing cardio but once I get on the :tread: my legs don't want to move, so I don't do any...

Sugar -- Your DD's smoking story reminded me of my D when she was about 3 or so she went up to a very tall man in the restaurant and tugged on his shirt and looked way up at him, and said in her nasaly girlish LOUD childish voice: "You smoke, you die, you know?" and walked away... I just shrugged, smiled and walked out ... It's the truth ain't it? :) For your DD's class, depending on their age and how open minded the teacher is, they could have a chocolate fondue with bananas, oranges, apples, strawberries ... You could volunteer some time to help too...

2sw33t -- The tricks of weekend eating are numerous. Bring a dish or desert of something healthy... Don't look at the bread have a conversation instead... But I think the one of self talk is the best one... It works for me, I talk to myself constantly (in my head that is  ) at these parties... Also being accountable to someone on here helps alot too. Because you know that ThanksGiving, Halloween, Christmas, NewYears, all those :censored: holidays are just around the corner and we, me included, have to be prepared...

Tiki -- Hope you're feeling better... I'll be right with you for 5 days in that gym ..... :tread: WE can do this, WE can do this :strong:

Well I've got to get going... Hope everyone else is well and fit...and Let's be careful out there !! TTFN...

3fcuser1058250 09-21-2004 07:22 PM

Lieke and GEAA -- Congrats on your decisions :high: ... I keep thinking about doing something like that, but I never seem to get around to it :dizzy: ...

GEAA and Tammy -- I'm supposed to be the "official" Welcome Wagon Greeter!! But I've been slacking off!! soooo without further ado here it is:

 WE LUVS NEWBIES!!! WELCOME TO LWL !!

Hey girls, keep me on my toes!! When I miss someone PM me and let me know :p !!

Greekgirl 09-22-2004 02:33 AM

Hi everyone,

Boyfriend managed to mess things up even before he went away for 2 weeks on a business trip: he took the laptop with the cookbook on it with him....

Sugarcube and goeatanapple, I thought that I could make a happy obsession into a job, but not really as personal trainer. Here in europe people are not prepared to spend too much money on a PT, I think there are only about 12 in an area with about 2.000.000 inhabitants (!) But I think the combination of sports advisor and dietician might work here, as everyone wants to lose weight here too. At least it has more future than digging up things, although I still think that's more fun ( I'm an art historian originally but as you can't eat dirt, I had to think of someting else, haha).

Goeatanapple, some of the girls here (and me too) go easy on cardio a day after doing legs, the legs are not really good for anything then anyway. Try doing someting else and some easy cardio like the elliptical for 3/4 of your usual stretch instead of really going for it. You need rest too!

Sugarcube, about unk at school, here too although still less visible, kids are growing fatter and fatter. I used to be (or think of myself) a fat kid, so I feel really sorry for them because I know exactly what they are going through...

Thanks for the support Tiki!

Ilene, get to the gym! fast!
About doing another study, i've decided to do it by e-mail (but certified of course), because although I have one of the biggest Universities of France here in town, I do have a full time job etc to attend to too. I still have to revv up my French and this will take some time, anyway, so i' counting on starting sept 2005. I guess that if I do it then, and plan well, I can make it.

I went to see a GP as I need a full check on my health, and although I've been training well on the whole and not eating bad, I gained about 45 pounds in a year and a half, so this definitely has to be checked out. Doc also said to make a food log, which I did (albeit reluctantly, i KNOW what I eat) and will give to het next week. Let's see what the tests say...

Lots of greetings to everyone,

Lieke

goeatanapple 09-22-2004 08:03 AM

Thanks for the kind welcome everyone! I want to move towards the plan where I alternate legs and upper body, that way I can do the cardio on the upper body days and not feel so sore in my legs ...

And this brings me to another point: how much cardio do you need to do? Is it better to do half the amount at high intensity or do the regular amount at a more sedate intensity? I'd like to compact my cardio into smaller time frames to leave more time for LIFTING haha!

Sugar Cube 09-22-2004 10:20 AM

Whirling Wednesday

LANAII - Sorry to have triggered your allergies, I am wondering how long this all lasts as I am brand new to them. I agree with your workout strategy. I gauge what cardio and how much I am going to do by the wobble factor. After some intense LBWO, I may just spend 10 minutes on the treadmill with some stretching, but if I have something left to give, I hit the real stairmaster for about 15 minutes if I can. The chocolate fondue sounds like a fun idea though DD doesn't like chocolate and they have asked us to steer clear of the candy. I could do fruit salad though and then someone is bound to get something they like. I really enjoy DD's school, they are very open to parents and family helping out and she is a 15 minute walk from my office. I get to do lots of things with her class. I think apple picking is coming up, though I don't look forward to the bouncy bus ride.

LIEKE - Cookbook gone missing?? I hope you can find lots of new ideas here, there are some great ideas.

I do the LBWO, then UBWO and then cardio, gives the legs an extra day to recoop.

Off to the grind, I am finishing up some permit work this morning, hoping that the allergies won't get the best of me. I am happy to be wearing some size 14's today, something I have done in a very long time.

srmb60 09-22-2004 11:44 AM

I should go to the feedmill on leg days! I just toted 2 40kg bags of chicken feed out of the trunk, across the lawn and into the shed. Maybe some day I'll be able to do squats or lunges with them!
Today is supposed to be arm day but my shoulders are kinda tender still. I think I'll grab a snack and try the Carribean Workout at noon. Hopefully it's not more legs today!

mette 09-22-2004 12:41 PM

I’ve been lurking and not posting for a couple of weeks; real life is far too busy right now! My neurobiology / neuropsychology exam is coming up next Wednesday and I have lots of reading to do! But I’m sticking to my gym routine, sleeping enough, and eating well - which makes the stress *so* much easier to handle.

I’ve changed my weight program a bit – I go to the gym 3 times a week and do 4 exercises every time because I go to the gym in the mornings and time is restricted. Monday: squats, leg curls, leg press and shoulder press. Wednesday: bench press, one arm dumbbells rows, biceps curls and triceps extensions. Friday: deadlifts, lat pulldowns, lower back extensions and ab crunches (machine). I aim for failure on most of the exercises, and I’ve just lifted for 2 months so the progress is excellent: I increase weights almost every time I do an exercise. It is very motivating.

As for cardio - this morning I actually ran/jogged on the treadmill at the gym – I’ve just walked on treadmills in the gym before - because I didn’t want anyone see me jogging, since I was so fat, blah blah blah…. Today I just speeded up the thing and tried to jog and then run. It felt great. And I really have to stop worrying about what I look like, and focus on getting the exercise done instead.

And Ilene – great tips on avoiding weekend eating. I actually find that weighing in on Monday mornings motivate me to stay on track during the weekends. I don’t know why.
Have a great Wednesday everybody!

LKTS 09-22-2004 12:48 PM

Hi all. Things have been crazy busy in my life, and clean eating has gone somewhat out the window. I missed my planning session on Sunday and I've been doing catchup since then! *grr* At least I know what I did wrong!

Here's my random question of the week - anyone know anything about powerlifting-type competitions? I think I'd be interested in competing if I ever get to the point where I could, but I can't find much info on the web.

Sugar Cube 09-22-2004 01:32 PM

Wednesday afternoon - almost done

SUSANB - Sounds like you get FIT Tv too. Love those workouts, great when I am tied to home for some reason and can't get to the gym. DD and the dog like to workout along with me. I noticed for the first time you are 5''4" and at 124 pounds, I don't think I ever was there and doubt I could get there at this point, just want to get to 140. I am impressed.

METTE - Not sure about your gym, but at mine, no one is at all negative when some of us larger folks workout, in fact there is a lot of encouragement. I am watching some co gymers get smaller and smaller and smaller.

LKTS - Haven't a clue about power lifting, just trying to keep up with myself.

Had a very nice lunch, greek lamb and some salad. Gave the french fries to my neice who has so much energy, she can afford them.

srmb60 09-22-2004 02:06 PM

Sugar Cube ... I don't get FitTV. Sure wish I did. I get CW on The Outdoor Life Network. I keep hunting but haven't found any other shows. It sure would be nice to be able to tune in to something, any old time of day.
And as to the weight thing, I'm pretty happy with the 124 but I'm still so soft around the middle. I've done about 8 different body fat calculators (including calipers) and get between 20 and 24%. Which is actually good but what about this belly flab? Sometimes I think myself half to death!
And 124 lbs? Honey, I sure never thought I'd see that again either. It's been probably over 15 years! I remember being 122 in 1983. I'm kind vague on what happened while I had three little ones at home. Then all of a sudden I was struggling my way up to 162 in 2003 :o . Heck if I know what happened!

Mel 09-22-2004 06:22 PM

LKTS- Try www.WABDL.org for bench press and deadlift meets, www.nasa-sports.com for drug tested squat, bench and deadlift meets. Bodybuilding.com has a big section on training for powerlifting.

Mette- As was said above, no one looks twice at larger runners other than to congratulate them as they get smaller ;) Anyone who walks through the door of the gym and does a workout gets a big pat on the back for taking those steps!

GEAA- If you do High Intensity Interval Training, you can decrease the actual amount of time you spend doing cardio, by increasing the intensity. I find that 25-30 minutes of HIIT is about equivalent to 45-60 minutes of "slogging away" on the treadmill or elliptical. Start at a comfortable pace, and aver about 5-6 minutes increase the speed or intensity to a pace whee you pretty much think you'll pass out after 30- seconds. Do the 30 seconds to a minute at that pace, then drop it back down to your initial slow-moderate pace until you've caught your breath enough to repeat the process. Do this 4-6 time, depending on your fitness level. It burns calories faster than settling in for a moderate jog. Think of it like stop and go city traffic vs. cruising on the turnpike. You use a lot more gas with the city traffic.

Hi everyone! I've been very busy and not posting much. My gym schedule and home life are crazy right now. I just starting lifting again this week and what seem to be wimpy workouts are making me very sore. I was reminded today that I do have chest muscles after doing real bench presses yesterday for the first time in a VERY long time!

Mel

3fcuser1058250 09-22-2004 06:44 PM

Good for you Meg, I bet it feels good to be back at the weight training... I was away from the gym this past week too, just cause life and work got in the way....

I'm happy to report that today's chest and tricep workout was awesome, afterwards I went roller bladding with a g/f, after that I went back to the gym with DS... So I feel gooood now!!

Food was good today too although not perfect... Tomorrow I'll aim for perfection :D...

It's been so absolutely gorgeous here in the last few days and I love it, just makes the day go by faster...

Well gotta go...TTFN , and lets be careful out there!!

3fcuser1058250 09-22-2004 07:00 PM

Nelie -- Where are youuuuu? I see those ## in your siggie going down pretty darn steady :high: Way to go!!! Congrats keep up the great work!

nelie 09-22-2004 08:02 PM

Hey Ilene, all. I've been fairly busy lately. I'm kind of stressed right now, my first paper for school is due tomorrow and I'm not done yet. My manager was also in town so that has been interesting. Yesterday he took us out to dinner and luckily we were able to pick the place and I was able to make a decent (not great) choice for dinner. I am skipping the gym today but I did go last night and I weighed in at 305 which really made me happy. I usually weigh more at night so I can't wait to see what the scale says on Friday or Saturday when I'm able to go earlier in the day. I also measured this morning and my waist is down to 42 inches (started at 56 inches) and my lower belly/hips/booty is 54 inches (start at 66 inches). I am really looking forward to get to 299 and out of the 300's!! Besides being stressful, I've been eating fairly well so that is good.

3fcuser1058250 09-22-2004 09:15 PM

Nelie -- Wow! You're really on a great roll, I can't wait to see your pic just like the one Meg has with an old pair of pants! WooHoo, you go girl  !!

nelie 09-22-2004 10:08 PM

I'm hoping I'll have a photo like Meg's! I'm kind of bummed that a few years ago when I lost 30 lbs or so, I didn't keep my biggest size pants (a size 32, luckily as soon as I bought them, I was out of them). I have been creating bags of give away clothes as I lose weight but I have kept one pair of tattered jeans, size 28, so that I can have a comparison pair of pants.

Yesterday, I wore a favorite pair of pants of mine, that were tight at 350 but I'm swimming in them now. I realized that they are too big to wear when I pulled them out in front of me to button them up and I was said to myself "wow that is a lot of extra fabric". Also it doesn't help that even my ample booty has a hard time keeping those pants up. I've never been a belt person and mostly between my hips and booty, I never needed a belt but I'm thinking that I may buy one soon.

kim150 09-22-2004 11:10 PM

hi girls! i am new here, but i am very encouraged by your sharing. i have this clunky Walmart 'special' weight machine-yup-in my bedroom (small bedroom) thx to my dh. i thought i would start out on it, with his help (he lifted before we met). today i ran, but tomarrow i will be doing uppers. ummm. i will be doing an upperbody workout.
i am a 39, sahm of 2, and i weigh 161. thx for just being here!
kim

goeatanapple 09-22-2004 11:45 PM

Nelie: Well done on the loss, I need to update my sig too lol lazy me :)
Meliris: THANKS SO MUCH for that, I have been doing something sorta similar (only doing it two times outta ten minutes), but I will try doing it like that! Will that also increase my rather pathetic level of cardio fitness? (I only have lungs with 80% capacity, and my fitness is increasing but darn slowly. At least my strength increase isn't hindered by that!)

Greekgirl 09-23-2004 02:22 AM

Hi everyone, just a shorty today

Had a very good workout yesterday, then packed boxes at home for a while and had a good night's sleep without boyfriend's knees in my back, haha.
Am also keeping a food log again for the GP as she wants to know what I'm eating.

Nelie, you are doing so well, keep going!

Hi Mel and Ilene!

Where are the other ladies?

Lieke

3fcuser1058250 09-23-2004 06:56 AM

Kim another newbie out of lurkdom!!

WELCOME !! LWL LOVES NEWBIES !!

Hi Lieke, GEAA and Nelie!

Another beauti of a morning here... I intend to do the gym scene today for back, then run, then blade... I hope I get everthing in...I really should be home doing laundry and housework :p but I'm NOT going to do that :o ...

goeatanapple 09-23-2004 08:17 AM

WOOOH hard workout ... took Mel's advice and I'm cutting my cardio at the gym from 40 mins + 5 minute warmup to 30 mins + 5 minute warmup using the interval training method :D

Really pushed myself on the weights and my goodness does my entire body ache or what? LOL!

Booked myself in for PT beginning next week! Can't wait!!!!

2sw33t 09-23-2004 08:26 AM

Hi, Kim, and welcome! Hi all!

Nelie - isn't it so cool when your clothes don't fit anymore? I never thought I'd enjoy having to buy more clothes because I didn't have anything that fit me - but then, it used to be that my clothes were too small instead of too big. BTW I've been the same way with belts, but I did actually wear one the other day (for the first time in years). Keep it up!

Anyway, I did single-set rep maxes on yesterday's workout exercises, and with about half of them I got to 25 reps (my pre-determined limit, since more reps would be too boring) without failure. I'm not really surprised, though. I hate lunges, so I hadn't increased the weight on them in a while, and I only have 80 lbs in weights (including the curl bar) which isn't enough for things like squats and other leg exercises. (I mean, really - I used to walk around all day with that much extra body weight.) I guess it's off to Galyan's for me!

Today is a distance-increasing day, so I get to jog at a comfortable pace, and I need to do 2.5 miles. I always look forward to NOT timing myself on a run day :p . The sad thing is, I just started running again and pretty soon I'll have to switch to the treadmill :( . I think I may put my treadmill at my parents' house, though - I'm always worried that it's too loud for my neighbors in the apartment below mine.

Happy lifting to all!

Greekgirl 09-24-2004 02:13 AM

GOOD MORNING LADIES!

today is shopping day at the discount supermarket!

They have fabulous offers on sale right now...No, NOT food, painting stuff and housework and do-it yourself items so I'm going to splash out for the new house.
Also did an hour of squash yesterday in sead of basic cardio, felt great afterwards! And had a great food day!

TGIF, gang! I can’t believe that it’s Friday and this is the first I’ve gotten to check in here. Whoa … :o I’ve been helping with a conference scheduled for next week that's been eating up most of my time. But fortunately I’ve still been able to find gym time and had some stellar workouts this week. :strong: Today’s going to be Leg Day — great way to end the week. :D Someone asked about cardio after legs (I don’t remember where — here or a different thread?) — I do cardio every day, so the way I handle legs is cardio in the morning, legs in the afternoon on Leg Day and the next morning, I go a little lighter on the cardio, like biking instead of elliptical or dropping the resistance. In my experience, cardio helps with the muscle soreness, if you can get by the initial ow ow ow of sore legs.

I’m a member of the National Weight Control Registry (as are Karen and Mel) — a database of people who have lost at least 30 pounds and maintained the loss for at least a year. This week I got their second annual questionnaire and have spent at least 45 minutes on it so far -- and am not nearly done! The questions they ask are a fascinating glimpse into what they think makes for successful weight loss and maintenance — this time they range all the way from eating disorders to what you eat for breakfast to exercise, how hungry you are, stress, and mood. Extremely detailed and wide-ranging — I think they’ll know me better than anyone except for DH and my gynecologist by the time I’m done! Anyway, once I’m finished, I’m going to post about the questionnaire in detail in the sticky in Maintainers about the NWCR: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34678 if you’d like to check it out. And if any of you are eligible for the study, there’s a link to the web site in the sticky.

It sounds like everyone’s been super-busy this week — must be the time of year — but everyone’s making it to the gym and doing good with food, so :cp: all! Nelie — you have made some awesome progress so far! Wow! I am so impressed and can’t wait until you get out of the 300s — we’ll have a big old LWL party for you! Definitely keep one pair of pants — if you’re ever having a bad day, all you have to do is try them on and everything gets put back into perspective.

Off to plan my food for the day (yay Fitday!) and then morning cardio and then — more conference. With a little break for legs. :D

Have a great weekend, all — maybe it will be fall where you are. It’s still summer here in Pittsburgh and of course, DS is going to get another hurricane in Florida. :dizzy:

Good morning, everyone, from Wales, where it's sunny and colder than it has been.

Liza - that's just a brilliant idea. I feel pretty sub-clinical at present (children back at school manufacture new bugs to plague us with) so I think the gymn is out. But a walk would be lovely. I'll go.

Kim - nice to have you with us.

This is short and sweet. Just saying hullo and seeking support to help me eat carefully (!) today. I want to realise that potential!

Finally Friday

Short day at the office and I am feeling much better, didn't even take an allergy pill. I am off at noon, home to bake DD's birthday cake for her birthday party tomorrow, clean up the yard, and then grocery shopping. What a bore, though getting the party goodies should be fun, DD thinks grapes are a great snack combined with Cheetos.

Down a pound this week and am amazed as I wasn't at the gym at all and went to a dinner meeting for work. Ate very nicely and avoided the trouble spots and spent lots of time chatting and talking and connecting.

I plan to get out on Sunday and do some cardio and to eat carefully all weekend.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Hey all!

Right now I'm cooking some white chili http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39869 it is quite yummy.

I went to the gym today and did legs (of course I just remembered that I forgot to do calves, I don't know what happened there, I can add that on tomorrow). I was able to do 570 lbs on the 45 degree leg press, which totally amazed me considering last week it was 500 lbs I was struggling with. Ever since I started adding lunges and squats on the olympic bar, I've noticed that my legs have become stronger. I tried the donkey calf raise last week and I maxed it out at 200 lbs although next time, I'll do 1 leg at a time. I've noticed that my calves have become a lot more defined, which is always good.

I'm down another lb and I'm looking to the party when I'm below 300 ;)

Thanks everyone for the support, as always, I think you guys are great.

Wow Nelie that's really AWESOME! Congrats on your excellent progress!! :D

I had a rest day yesterday, and I've been talking seriously with my brother-in-law who is a personal trainer and a serious lifter. He went from lifting really pathetic weights due to a shoulder injury, to lifting ASTRONOMICAL amounts (he can do more than 800 pounds on the 45 degree leg press and can lift scary amounts with his upper bod not sure how much though) and he's devised a serious LIFTING program... more about that in it's own separate thread :D
