week of 20-27 september 2004
Hello all,
after lurking for a week because of sick boyfriend (barely had time for the gym but did go), I can now announce that we are definitely going to move house around the 22 October so we've been packing boxes all weekend. Yesterday I went for a long walk as the weather is still beautiful. I have also decided to start studying again, and change carreers into dietician. Might as well make an obsession (haha) into a job. The French government has really good and Europe-wide approved internet education so my degree will be a real valid one. The fees (without books) are about 400 $ so that's ok too. I'm planning to start next year... For now, have a good start of the week, lieke |
I just got home from night shift again ... and wanted to pop in and say "Happy Monday" to everyone.
It's only 0800 here and I've already had 700 calories! So I'd better either sleep long enough so that I don't need to eat very many more times, or wake up early enough to have a good work out and walk. I did a bunch of that nasty 'boredom eating' over night. Yick. Thankfully my arms and shoulders ache nicely from my workout yesterday and remind me what I'm all about. And it ain't saltines! Eat well and lift in good form! Night all! |
Hello, I am new to this forum ... Lieke, congrats on you decision! I, too, have decided after a long time of indecision to make personal training/dieting my career and thus something I can help others with after my own journey. But first, more weight to lose and lean body mass to gain!! Good luck!!

Good morning and happy Monday all! Gorgeous day here in Central Indiana -- sun shining; about 70. Absolutely perfect. I can't decide whether I should go to the gym or take a really fabulous walk. Since I've had one long walk already today (this morning, with the pooch), I guess I better hightail it over to the gym and work those legs. Maybe do a few yoga poses as well.
Lieke and Goeat, what a grand decision!! There's nothing better than combining passion and profession. And congrats on the upcoming move! And welcome Goeat  Cindy, I saw you pop in at the end of last week's thread -- great to see you. Hope your travels go well. Hi SusanB, and all those yet to post. |
Checking back in for accountability. I'm soooo tired. I thought I had to work tomorrow so I got up at noon (3.5 hours sleep) but now I don't have to and it wouldn't have hurt anything for me to sleep a little longer.
I've eaten a way too much today. Actually averaged out it's only 100 cals per hour I've been awake. Is that reasonable logic? I did have a wonderful walk, got sun burnt and had a satisfying ab work out. I love my new ball! Congratulations to you two on continuing your education. Hi Robin! |
Thanks everyone :) ... worked my poor muscles SO HARD! I have really been pushing myself in the last few weeks and I'm very happy with my progress, considering I had a cold for a week - I am increasing the weights on all my weights exercises almost by weekly increments. And been lifting to failure alright!
I can't believe it! This chick at work who has GREAT guns said she's stopped lifting weights because her muscles were getting too big! I wish mine were big :D |
Morning all. I'm feeling my better this am. I slept just over 9 hours! I'm going to do some research about abs today. I thought I was doing good but this morning ... if I stretch, I can feel them but they don't ache like my legs and shoulders do after I've worked them.
I'm kind of afraid I'm out growing my dumbells and things. It's been a month. Hmmm. Any input on that would be appreciated. Thanks all, just for being here! Morning Goeat! |
Teddy Tuesday
I just can't breath from allergies and if I take anything stronger will just be asleep all the time. I am taking a break from lifting and am giong to concentrate on the cardio until I feel better. The allergies hit me like a truck on Saturday, first I am doing ok then my head exploded. Allergies late in life are sort of bad, I don't know what to expect, I am way down on the learning curve. LOL. :p
Food was a mess on my knitting weekend, but hey, knitting was great. We entertained ourselves with watching Miss America in the evening. Great fun all around. I did feel a little guilty as my husband was at his mom's dealing with her knee replacement, the house, our child and installing motion sensor switches. I guess I owe him one. ;) LIEKE - I think that everyone should do what they like and hopefully what they are good at. Otherwise, you can be in an occupation you may make a lot of money, but it is such a grind. I love what I do, if only I could relocate a couple of co workers. ;) Happy packing. SUSAN B - I hope your remaining Monday calories were high quality ones. My daughter's school is launching a wild campaign against obesity. They have decided, with parent's council, to not serve any soda or candy at any school events or functions, and to request that all treats be fruit or veggie based. I am collecting ideas for the weeks I provide snack to the class, and luckily I have November, so I plan on sending in an apple corer, and washed apples for the teacher to prepare ( i asked, she is fine with it), along with peanut butter, no allergies and celery, raisins, stuff like that. Though my daughter really loves Cheetos, she only eats about a third of a single serving at a time, those won't fly in the classroom. She also wants to take bananas, I wonder how many bananas 20 kids would eat?? I was considering pretzels, maybe they would be considered too salty, it is so hard to be so politically correct with food. :( Unfortunately, I see the obesity in the kids and when we went to DD's soccer kickoff, no overweight kids there, all slim, active and healthy kids, I think maybe that the heavy weights were home watching cartoons. I am doing some walking this afternoon, I am working until midnight, so it will be very doubtful I will get to the gym in the am, though being out in the air with allergies, not too bright either. ROBIN - Decisions decisions, and to know that later on it will be cold and grey outside, so why not save up a bunch of good weather walks now. LOL. Off to have a coffee with a friend, her daughter and mine were in class together last year and we found each other. It is a nice break from the office. Liza |
Hi all!
Sugar Cube - I like your DD's school idea about not serving unhealthy snacks. I try to really limit how much sugar my crew gets at home because their school just will NOT put limits there - they make too much money from junk food sales. Good luck GEAA and Leikie on your career choices. Study hard, I know you both will be fabulous. My weekend started off great foodwise but took a BAD turn Sunday night and all day Monday. I also skipped the gym Monday (was home sick) and this AM. To make up for it, I will have to hit the gym 5 days in a row to get all my muscle groups in. I can do this, I can do this. Tiki. |
Hi all!
I'm in the process of finalizing my new workout routine. I've got the cardio vs. weight days figured out, but I need to choose exercises and set/rep combos for the weight days. I did a 2-mile run for time yesterday, and was rather disappointed - it was worse than a year ago (and that was pretty bad!), so I guess I need to start monitoring lap times. I get too lazy when I don't pay attention to time... though it's nice to just go for a jog at a comfortable pace. Hopefully, doing sprint intervals once a week will help with my speed, as well. I know something I've done has worked my inner thighs, since they've been sore the last couple of days, but I'm not sure what. The only that's been different so far was the sprint intervals on Sunday. Oh well. Food has been up and down - the weekends are a killer (I had a turkey dinner at my mom's on Saturday and ate too much stuffing and mashed potatoes - not mention the apple pie), so I think I need to tackle that challenge next. Any ideas on how to get weekend eating under control? |
DD's school took out the soda machine, and have turned the kids into health machines as far as I can tell. My daughter asked me in a very loud voice why someone was smoking recently, like somehow the person hadn't gotten the message it was bad for them. I just don't want her to get a bad reaction to her question.
JCH - when I get my weekend eating under control I'll let you know how I did it. Actually I know how I do have a successful weekend, I stay positive, workout early in the am and plan. I don't let things distract me because I have a list of things to do, and when I am washing down the kitchen walls to paint them, I just don't feel like dipping into the kid's treats. Liza |
Hi all! Worked real hard at the gym last night, really feeling it today ... my arms are killing me, my abs are killing me, my legs are killing me, my back is killing me :) I don't yet separate my weights so I am doing everything all together 3 x a week. Soon, I'd like to separate upper and lower body work over six days at the gym, alternating, with cardio interspersed between. I will need to join a gym closer to home though!
I was sick last week so I am SO glad to be back in the saddle! Question about cardio - I work my legs SO hard that sometimes it makes my cardio a bit tough straight after my workout, and even the next day when I jump on some gym equipment at home. What can you do? |
Hello gang  ....
I've been working and it's keeping me away from having time to post :o ... so finally I get a moment. I haven't been to the gym since last Thursday! I jogged Sunday morning and it was awesome! Food has been so-so! What can ya do when life gets in the way? :p Hopefully tomorrow I'm back at it full force since I'm working only till 12:30  ... Someone mentionned allergies and I think they triggered mine  ..... I'm sniffling like crazy all of a sudden... GEAA you asked: Quote:
Sugar -- Your DD's smoking story reminded me of my D when she was about 3 or so she went up to a very tall man in the restaurant and tugged on his shirt and looked way up at him, and said in her nasaly girlish LOUD childish voice: "You smoke, you die, you know?" and walked away... I just shrugged, smiled and walked out ... It's the truth ain't it? :) For your DD's class, depending on their age and how open minded the teacher is, they could have a chocolate fondue with bananas, oranges, apples, strawberries ... You could volunteer some time to help too... 2sw33t -- The tricks of weekend eating are numerous. Bring a dish or desert of something healthy... Don't look at the bread have a conversation instead... But I think the one of self talk is the best one... It works for me, I talk to myself constantly (in my head that is  ) at these parties... Also being accountable to someone on here helps alot too. Because you know that ThanksGiving, Halloween, Christmas, NewYears, all those :censored: holidays are just around the corner and we, me included, have to be prepared... Tiki -- Hope you're feeling better... I'll be right with you for 5 days in that gym ..... :tread: WE can do this, WE can do this :strong: Well I've got to get going... Hope everyone else is well and fit...and Let's be careful out there !! TTFN... |
Lieke and GEAA -- Congrats on your decisions :high: ... I keep thinking about doing something like that, but I never seem to get around to it :dizzy: ...
GEAA and Tammy -- I'm supposed to be the "official" Welcome Wagon Greeter!! But I've been slacking off!! soooo without further ado here it is:  WE LUVS NEWBIES!!! WELCOME TO LWL !! Hey girls, keep me on my toes!! When I miss someone PM me and let me know :p !! |
Hi everyone,
Boyfriend managed to mess things up even before he went away for 2 weeks on a business trip: he took the laptop with the cookbook on it with him.... Sugarcube and goeatanapple, I thought that I could make a happy obsession into a job, but not really as personal trainer. Here in europe people are not prepared to spend too much money on a PT, I think there are only about 12 in an area with about 2.000.000 inhabitants (!) But I think the combination of sports advisor and dietician might work here, as everyone wants to lose weight here too. At least it has more future than digging up things, although I still think that's more fun ( I'm an art historian originally but as you can't eat dirt, I had to think of someting else, haha). Goeatanapple, some of the girls here (and me too) go easy on cardio a day after doing legs, the legs are not really good for anything then anyway. Try doing someting else and some easy cardio like the elliptical for 3/4 of your usual stretch instead of really going for it. You need rest too! Sugarcube, about unk at school, here too although still less visible, kids are growing fatter and fatter. I used to be (or think of myself) a fat kid, so I feel really sorry for them because I know exactly what they are going through... Thanks for the support Tiki! Ilene, get to the gym! fast! About doing another study, i've decided to do it by e-mail (but certified of course), because although I have one of the biggest Universities of France here in town, I do have a full time job etc to attend to too. I still have to revv up my French and this will take some time, anyway, so i' counting on starting sept 2005. I guess that if I do it then, and plan well, I can make it. I went to see a GP as I need a full check on my health, and although I've been training well on the whole and not eating bad, I gained about 45 pounds in a year and a half, so this definitely has to be checked out. Doc also said to make a food log, which I did (albeit reluctantly, i KNOW what I eat) and will give to het next week. Let's see what the tests say... Lots of greetings to everyone, Lieke |
