Happy Sunday, All!
NolaKanola - So sorry to hear about your hospitalization. Get well soon and heal fast! INRobin - I stumbled across MuscleMedia several months ago at Kroger's Mag Rack, in the men's section. Energy is it's female equivalent. And both have an affiliation to BFL/Bill Phillips. We too had to scale back on subscriptions, and saving magazines. It totally got out of hand. However, I was a charter subscriber to THIS OLD HOUSE, and saved every single one until the Labor Day Flood took my collection. Broke my heart. Yesterday I was all geared up for the gym, got there and ran into an acquintance who bent my ear for almost an hour. I worked for awhile, and when I got down to some lifting, another lady was watching me and started asking questions. Good-bye concentration. I tried a few times to refer her to the gal behind the desk who knows about lifting and knows I'm serious about it. She eventually walked over to 'save me,' but by then it was 15 minutes to closing. So I gave myself a 7. My legs hurt but I wish they hurt just a litle bit more. Lady Interruptus had an interesting story, though. Seems she had been obese since giving birth to 5 children. At 40, she had to have her gallbladder removed, and had an allergic reaction to the anesthetic. From that, she developed serious food allergies and subsequnetly lost 73 pounds. While the weight was coming off, she decided to join the gym, but no one ever told her she could lose the fat and gain muscle with lifting. (I really think our gym *doesn't* endorse lifting on purpose to keep members.) Her allergies won't tolerate eggs, but she gets her protein from meat and has to monitor her daily protein intake. I asked her how many grams of protein does she take in daily, and she replied "35." She survives on vegetables and meat, mostly beef. So I told her, "Honey, if you are going to start lifting, you'll have to take in more protein than that." She looked horrified, so I just let her talk after that, and recommended she get on the net and do some research, since I am new to this myself. She had no idea what her LBW was, but we did compare hanging skin! So how do you all handle people at the gym who want to talk? I allow myself a 1.5 hour window when I go, and don't consider 'social time.' I also try to go at off hours to avoid too many ladies (it's a ladies only gym), and because I hog certain machines, like the leg press. How do you politely say, "Buzz off, I'm working here?" LOL. It's not the first time it's happened, and I'm just too nice to be remotely rude. Great tip, using stairs for lunges, BTW! I'm going to try that for sure here at home. dip |
Morning all - just getting caught up on reading all my lists post before getting into a day of cleaning, cooking and planning. C3 starts tomorrow and I want to be ready. I'm a little concerned as I will be home Mon-Wed, then will be traveling for the next week and a half after that! But, I'll do what I can, in terms of working out, and will keep my eating as clean as possible. I'll be in hotels and friend's houses, so I should be able to do something!
Meg - good news about your not having any restrictions on what you can do! Nola - glad to hear that your out of the hospital and doing ok. Robin/Dip - I hear you on the magazine thing - I'm an addict myself! I let most of them slide while I was doing my special work project down in Evansville, the first 6 months of this year, but now that I'm back, I've been letting them creep back in. I know it's not so much the getting them, it's the not being able to get rid of them! Decorating mags are my real weakness, along with Oprah, Self and Cooking Light. I also get Energy, and am thinking of getting MM! Robin - thanks for the veggie ideas; also, I have a work friend who is into Airedale rescue as well - in fact she just got herself a new dog from the OH area (we are in Albany NY). Louis - thanks for the tip on the lunges - with my traveling, I can always do walking lunges in my room or hotel parking lot. And, I can use stairs for step-ups! Revely - I hear you about the food choices - but for me, it's usually about being lazy and lack of planning. I guess it's lucky for me right now that I live alone, because I have purged my house of every single thing that I might be tempted to grab and eat instead of taking the time to fix a meal. It's funny though, on weekends, I'll sit here thinking "I should just have a shake, it will be quicker", instead of wanting to take the few minutes longer to put a meal together... the only thing that stops me is the cost of the shakes! Well, off to get some breakfast - going to make some PP while I'm motivated to do so - I love them, but they take so long in a tiny frying pan! I have got to get myself a griddle! Cindy |
Fit Day
Hi!
My new program I'm using for a pre-Thankgiving challenge is going well. I've been hesitant to post because it's not exactly exemplary clean eating, but it's one possible option that can work. I'm also embarrassed that I'm just re-losing weight I gained, but I'm probably not the only one that's ever done that! Anyhow, I've been using fit day to keep track of everything, and have decided to make my journal public. If anybody can get ideas that will help them, that would be great! Here's the URL: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...?Owner=carriej Hope everybody's doing great! Carrie |
Hey Carrie - Just a note to say "No", you are not the only one who is working on losing weight you have regained. You gotta do that because you have to do that before you get to cover "new" ground. Congrats on getting on with it. I think recording on fitday is a great way to keep yourself on track.
I have just recently lost down to my lowest. And by golly I find myself losing steam at this same spot I always lose steam. Any words of wisdom from you ladies that have found yourself in this position? I held my own this week but no loss to report. I didn't exercise, due to tiredness and busyness, on the other hand that can't be an excuse. Just got to get myself revved up again to cross this abyss weight where I always seem to get stuck. |
Tidey - thanks for the tip on Simply Protein - my GNC didn't have the cappucino flavor, but I got the vanilla to try - the price is much more reasonable than the Myoplex Light packets I'd been using. Just had some - used 3 scoops in 16 oz water, for 30g P, and it was pretty good. Not the thickness of the shake-type, and not as sweet either. Where did you find the cappucino flavor? I couldn't find the product at all on the EAS web site.

Cindy - you got out of Evansville just in time. The heat down there was horrible this year. We keep our boat at Kentucky Lake and we stayed away most of July and August. I hear ya too about the temptation to grab something quick, or just a shake. I usually prep on Sundays and Wednesdays, so it's not like the clean food isn't handy or available. Which reminds me, I better get cooking.
Carrie and ledom - I'm in the same boat this week. I am too embarrassed to admit here what I did, but have at another forum on the board. And the week has been pure **** for me trying to purge the white food again, but today I think I'm through it. Beside feeling like total crap from the crap I put into my body, I was fighting a virus too, so no workouts except for cardio until yesterday. We just came in from brunch, where I was so pleased with myself for making excellent healthy and clean choices. It was easy - again, finally. Thanks for admitting and posting - you are definitely not alone. I have had a fear that as I approach 199, I may be sabotaging myself, but I do believe I'm over it now. I'm looking forward to Monday morning to start anew. |
Cindy - I saw the capucino flavor at Wal-Mart. In the pharmacy.

Thanks for your post diphthong. Let's give each other some extra support this coming week. My birthday is Nov. 20 and I would really like to use it as a date to reach a goal of about 8 lbs. lost. Just looking for my mojo to get back to work. We'll succeed and I SO envy where you are right now. SO close to such a major goal and just within spitting distance. I'll help you celebrate when you get there!
On another note. I love boating too, only I kayak. This coming weekend I am going on a 23 mile wilderness paddle w/ 10 other women, I am so looking forward to it. |
ledom - kayaking sounds way cool! I've been wanting to try it but I'm afraind I won't fit in one yet, or get stuck Here's where my mantra kicks in - wait until you see me *next* summer!"
I'm in a challenge on another forum for 10/31, and I do believe I can make 199 by then. "Spitting distance" - great metaphor, and I will definitely keep it in mind. Feel free to PM me so we can keep each other on track. dip |
Dip, Carrie and Ledom count me in also... I did not stay on track at all since Thursday...I'd give in to my cravings! I truly do think I sabotage my diet as soon as I see that I am loosing weight... aaargh... WHY??????That is something that I will have to figure out I guess... I'm back on track today but I'm having a hungry day, I think of food constantly...
Back to the gym tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to that... Later all... |
Wow, Ilene, when I saw you had posted I thought oh crap, one of the big guns is going to get on me. That's what I experienced too. Screwed up and thought of nothing but food while "re-cleansing." While going through it, I are clean, but I ate ALOT of clean. I'm 99% sure it's over with for me. It was absolute ****.
C'mon Monday! dip |
DIP!! ~~ "Big guns"....OMG!!! Is that the impression I give you? Too funny!! We are ALL only human
