Default The National Weight Control Registry Cont'd

I’ve posted before about the National Weight Control Registry, an ongoing study of individuals who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for at least a year. http://www.lifespan.org/services/bmed/wt_loss/nwcr/ The book Thin For Life by Anne Fletcher is based on their research. I joined the study on my first anniversary of reaching my goal weight and filled out tons of questionnaires about eating and exercise habits, psychological issues etc. related to being overweight and then losing the weight.

In today’s mail I got another packet from them asking me to participate in a special Holiday Study that they are conducting. The letter says that the purpose is to “evaluate the effect of the holiday season on stress, mood, and weight maintenance in both previously overweight and normal weight individuals.“

They want me to find a normal weight friend or relative to participate with me (someone who has never been overweight). Well, I’m married to one and I hope he’ll agree to do it also. We’d both fill out three sets of questionnaires — one each in November, January and March.

I definitely want to do this and think it would be a very good thing to keep me on track during the holidays. I really wouldn’t want to have to send in my questionnaire saying that I had gained, would I?!

Meg - What a great opportunity. Maybe if I had done something like that, I wouldn't have gained it all back and then some. I truly get so much out of reading books by successful women who have "won" at the game of getting healthy. I too am married to a man who is very consistent with his weight (within 7 lbs in 20 years I've known him). It's so pathetic to look at our clothes. His are all one size and I have bins of things in our attice labeled from sizes 8 to 26. This time though I am "goodwilling" ALL the clothes as I go down. I'm too poor to buy more so I will not give myself any option BUT to lose it!

Have fun with the survery - I'll bet you will learn so much in your marriage as well!
