Hi all,

Boy I have missed you all and couldn't wait to get back on the board to see whassup! had a two day offsite conference - was part of the eating WAY off plan crowd too, but I am blaming my bad eating on all of you because I was JUST trying to stay in tune with you all mentally ;-)

My mom has 3 ruptured discs in her back and had been trying to use therapy to get better. she finally gave in and is going to have surgery. I am so glad that she is taking this route. she is 5'3 and weighs so much it is scary. Her goal after recuperation is to begin weight training and rejoin her walking group. she is 60 and also has chronic osteoporosis. her doc told her adding muscle mass will help to stop further bone loss. I wish the docs had told her that YEARS ago.

I got a NEW ID and was in the gym this AM for LBWO and chest and biceps. I am bored with the standard BRx workouts and decided to mix things up. I tried my chest presses with the isolateral machine in the free weight section. Robin, if you haven't tried this girl, get your butt over there and do it. It was a totally different way to work those muscles. Also, Robin, I was surprised to read that on your hi carb days, they run right through you. i have had the same experience. as for water, if the color of my output is too dark, i increase the amount of my input. our internal systems will always let us know something is wrong if we just listen and pay attention.

oh yeah, before i go, in high school, if I had to break wind, i would call my mom at work and tell her i was sick and come get me. I did this the entire 4 years i was in high school because my first week of school my freshman year, i pooted in a bathroom stall and the people in the bathroom looked under the door at my shoes so they would know who i was and they laughed at me the rest of the day. When i started college, i finally told my parents what the real deal was. they always thought i was crazy, but that just confirmed it.

okay i wrote too much, its sunny in the motor city and i am about to enjoy it! have a good one y'all!

Tik - Yea I am starting to mix things up a bit myself. I am slowly starting to move over more into the free weights. Next week, I plan to do one or two chest exercises over there - right now I do all of them on machines. What is an isolateral machine??? I am also looking at doing other leg workouts since I can't do calves (read my post over under LBW thread.)

Yea, if I eat a high-carb/low-protein meal, it won't stay with me. I found that out once day when I did cheese pizza.......2 large slices and I was hungry again in about an hour!!

C2 eating is going ok though the fiber requirement is killing me. I have only met it once this week! I even got some benefiber, but I am not using it too liberally, as I don't want to bloat. I am trying not to use fiber one, but if I have to eat some I guess I do. With my schedule as it is, it can be hard to eat loads of any kind of fruit or veggie that is not portable. So, something I have to adapt to :) I also need to work in increasing my water......I have a tendancy to drink coffee and iced tea instead which is not good.

Ahh well, I learn more everyday :)

Happy Anniversary Meg!!!!

Nola, I liked the cat story. What does it take to get a cat microchipped? It sounds like something I should do with mine.

After reading about picking up and starting a new life, it dawns on me that I am going to do that in 8 weeks. I know no one in Texas and my family is staying in California for a while (dh is going to sell the house since I don't want that to go on while I'm studying for the bar). Scary prospect this starting over thing.

I had good workouts this weekend. Being very careful with my knee and my clavical (leg presses were very light weight and I'm not doing squats or lunges yet). But the pool was awesome (I had it all to myself both mornings).

Feeling good about being back to the gym. I missed it so much!!!!

Clover -- You said: " I have wondered if weightlifting would help get me thru something big like illness or money problems. " I have to say a resounding YES, and this is my point of view only, because when you are healthy in body, mind and spirit, things are in a much better perspective all around.... IMO only ...

Susan nice to see you're back at the gym...

Meg -- HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Robin -- I'm not too familiar with BRX but what is the fiber requirement? I have been taking 2 tablespoons of ground flax in my P shake morning and night lately ... WOWSA!! I never thought I had a BM problem, well this has cleared it right up, I feel cleaned out every day now, and I love that feeling..... it has about 3 g of fiber/tablespoon...

Had an awesome bike ride this morning... biked on the trail a bit then decided to visit a friend who lives only 8k away but because it's in the city felt like much much more... I had to go up and down two overpasses, there and back, so that was a great workout, altho the traffic is a pain in the butt.... Food is so so this weekend... I'll try to stay on track today, it shouldn't be too hard since I'm staying close to home...

Later all have a great day... the weather is perfect here, the kids are even in the pool...YIPPEE!!

RobinBeBe 06-08-2003 02:28 PM

Lanaii1 - in C2 it is 45g a day. I am hitting around 35 or so if I push it. I have been using Benfiber which is about 3 gms per tablespoon. I usually add it to my shakes, or my cottage cheese - it isn't gritty and has no flavor. I am just using it sparingly for now to see what my threshold is.

I really need to hit this....next cycle, the fiber goes up to 60 gms a day :fr:

As for abs, I got the BFL book, because I like the section on exercise. I may try a few out of there.

As for Today's workout, I did chest/biceps......and I did 2 of the chest exercises on free weights :strong: I had been doing all 3 on the machines. I did the chest press and incline press with dumbells. It is humbling how much weight I had to drop.....but it did take a lot more coordination and work to lift those, but it felt great afterwards!! Next week I will have to add flys in. Those big fellas in the free weight section I am sure will get to know me real well :)

oh .. my ... GAWD I'm whipped. Did LBWO yesterday, and then MADE myself do interval training today. My legs felt SO heavy, I felt like I had freakin' cement blocks strapped to each foot. And yet I still made my 2 miles in 30 minutes. That was to make up for my missed aerobic interval last week when I wimped out because LB killed me. No more wimping out.

Clover - RE: Wondering if lifting will help in periods of big stress. Speaking from my own personal experience, *yes*. I think it's the only thing that has gotten me through these last several months without losing my mind. And it continues to help me through each day wondering if my father is going to live or die. And quite honestly, I scream so loud out of anger and frustration when I hit my high weights on squats and bench presses and such that I'm afraid my neighbors think I'm a little .. strange. Not to mention I usually have a sore throat. But the catharsis is unbelievable.

Happy Anniversary, Meg!!! :balloons:

Tik, I sure hope your mom is going to be ok. *THREE* ruptured disks!! :( She must be hurting all the time.

I'm going to buy a bike trainer for upstairs in the living room so my daughter and I can use that with the extra bike we have instead of only running. And I dug out my son's bike and mine, and we made a goal of being able to ride clear around our subdivision circle without having to walk up that last killer hill. We're going to take that loop every day till we can do it. THEN we're going to turn it around, because the hill coming the OTHER way is even worse!! It's good to have tangible goals.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Hello everone.

Happy anniversary Meg!

Tika, Best wishes for your mothers surgery. Enjoy the sun, and send some here! What happned to June?

OMG! 60g of fiber! Yikes! I try to get 30 in, and that seems like a lot. I eat a lot of artichokes, I love them and high in fiber.

I had an amazing workout yesterday. I missed working out on Friday due to family issues, so I squeezed in UB and LB. I've had so many fat moments but yesterday I think I had my first 'strong' moment :D I went to pick up 10# DB to do some shoulder presses and they were so light, I thought oh those must be fives. So I grabbed the next set up and when I put them down they were 12.5# The lights ones I first picked up were the tens! It was big for me at least. I also found out when the diehards go to my gym, Saturday morning! It was the first time I had ever seen anyone use the squat rack before. Had a major high point on chest too, did a set of 6 DB chest press with 20# DBs! I felt really :strong: for the first time and I think I'm in love with the feeling! I have a long way to go, but I think I;m going to enjoy it!

Observing the other ladies at my gym, I have relised the secret to long amounts of low intensity cardio. The benefits are three fold.

1. you don't sweat and ruin you nice workout clothes

2. Also by not sweating the makeup wont run off your face

3. You are at the gym so long the guys throwing their backs out doing bicep curls are bound to see you!

Um, I really want to join a new gym!

I think I got ogled for the first time. Not in a sexual way, just in a 'OMG there is a woman in the free weight area, and she's deadlifting' look. The only other women I see lifting are the 1000 reps with a 3# dumbell kind. So I think I am a shock to them, but they were very nice. I even shared the assisted dip machine with one of the guys! I can finally use it not on the higest resistance setting! YAY!

ok, enought rambling for one day!

Have a good Sunday!

Verna -- congrats on the higher weights !! It does feel good doesn't it... And I so relate to your analogy of the girls who always look perfect at the gym.... bottom line is they don't work very hard... and their bodies are mush...Oh well to each their own...

Robin -- 45-60 g/day... Yikes!!I'm gonna try and aim for that... I feel a real difference in my body since I've added so much fiber and I usually end up with 35g...

Tika -- sending prayers to your mom....

Hey you know what I noticed today, biking along and looking in storefront windows, I noticed that my triceps are really showing... KEWL!!! I felt good about that...

On the bad side I had 4 cookies today... damn!!!! But it didn't trow my day off completely.... Whew!! My cals, fat ratio are still good....

RobinBeBe 06-08-2003 06:59 PM

Lanaii1 & Mixerchick - yes that is a lot!! I had no problem hitting 30 last cycle. According to what I have read in BRx, it is the increase in protein and fiber that helps to burn the fat. We shall see next cycle!! I am keeping my options open, however.....I am not going to kill myself to get all the fiber and protein in if I cannot.

One of these years I will do a deadlift perhaps.....they seem kinda scary to me!! First off I just need to get most of my workout moved into the free weight section. I really wonder what they think of this heavy chick cranking out the weights over there!! Hehe

Robin :cb:

3fcuser1058250 06-08-2003 08:31 PM

Robin -- who cares what they think, specially when they SEE results in a little while... WOOHOO they're gonna want ya in their corner!!!

How much protein along with the fiber?

I guess I should just buy the book

Hi!!

Just back from my cardio... it is a long weekend here and it was heaven to have 2 days where all I took to the gym was my id card, water bottle, mp3 player and a towel!!! I am usually carting my stuff to get ready for work. I really pushed it today and hit a new 'high' for a 10.

Susan - Most vets will do the chipping for cats and dogs. It is just a teeny tiny 'chip' that is inserted just under the skin, usually at the shoulders which has an identifying number. When a 'reader' like at a grocery store is waved near the area, the number comes up and your details are stored in a national database. The vet I used in Edmonton filed their patient records according to the id numbers for all their chipped patients. I think it cost about $50 .. 2 years ago. Most animal shelters will chip the pet before they are adopted, this keeps them from coming back as strays... or in our case, coming back to the right owner!! I sooooo recomend it!

My parents chip their cattle as well for registration identification.
I think they just rent the needle and the equipment from their cow vet for a weekend and when they are vacinating the herd they chip the ones that are their top choices. Makes you wonder if the X-files had it right.... when Scully had the chip just below her neck!! ha ha ha

Raven - Wow!! Alaska to Georgia?? That is a huge move! A huge change in climate!!

Susan (again) - You will do fine moving to Texas. It takes some time to get settled, but change can be a very positive experience!

I often tell people that it would have been more of a culture shock had I moved from the Red-Neck west to Montreal. Especially since I can only count to 5 in french and opted out of french classes in highschool because I did not 'need' the credits.

Verna - Woohoo on the higher weights!! It just feels so awesome when you step it up!! I agree with you on the 3 points you made why it is not good to sweat at the gym. I notice the princesses more when I go on the weekends, or like today, a bit later than 6 am. At that time, it is only the serious people. And boy.... if the princesses only knew that the hardbodies are out at that time!! Yummy yum! Eye candy at 6 am!! :)

I hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend... and that they get a good start on the coming week. I am off to cook some lunches, then get out on the motorbikes!! I hope since it is finally SUNNY here!

:)
Nola.

RobinBeBe 06-08-2003 10:22 PM

Lanaii1 Yes, just buy the book.....if for nothing else just to get more information. I picked up the BFL book for that purpose.

In C2, protein is supposed to be 1.25 x your body weight. Well, that would put it at about 325 gms a day. In C1, I only did about 220 a day and I was supposed to do 260. So, I kicked it up to 1.25 x that, to 275. I still only hit about 260-280. I honestly don't worry about it too much. As I said, I am not going to stuff myself silly trying to get all of this in. Granted, I am hungry enough for it......I eat like a pig with all of this working out

My co-workers tease me all the time.....one guy laughed one day when I was eating a sandwich....he said that was the first time he had seen me eat solid food.....usually it was my shakes or "paste" (cottage cheese). Yes, he is a fast-food junkie. I just go along with it.....its all in good fun :)
