Mel - We are going to Belize.
|
Hi  My goodness, 2 weeks away and I can't begin to keep up with all of you!! I had a great trip. DIdn't gain - or lose! - but I also didn't exercise as much as I do at home. TIme to get back to my food, my gym, and ahhhh - my bed!!
I'll be back tomorrow. |
Nelie- Now I remember that trip! It sounded so fascinating that I was looking at it also. Have a GREAT time if I don't "see" you back on the boards. And take LOTS of pictures! I still love to look at your Antarctica pictures.
My legs and butt are so sore from yesterday's torturous WOD. It was a partner WOD: one person rows while the other runs 400 meters, then switch. For 20 minutes. That doesn't sound very long, but it felt like an hour! I'm a slow runner....my poor partner was a good sport about it. We actually did really well (scre was based on total calories on rower) because she rowed longer than I did dueto my turtle-esque running  Not sure she was ! Welcome back, Pat! |
Just popping in to say Hello!
Nelie, I wish you a wonderful and safe trip to Belize. How exciting! I'm enjoying the discussion about crossfit. I'm a long way away from being able to participate in something like that, but I'll get there someday! Have a wonderful weekend All! |
 Have a wonderful time Nelie! Can't wait to see the pics!
Pat: Isn't wonderful to come home from a trip and not see any fallout on the scale or in the clothes. During my trip to Puerto Rico I was certain to see an increase, nah. The change of food and activity actually resulted in a loss which I've maintained. Wierd. Nice to fall into a familiar bed after traveling too. I agree. Hey Mel. Just popping in to check on everyone. Decent workout today. DS had a playdate after kindergarten. (Still frustrates me that he is in school for only two hours a day and my workouts this year have had to short changed...) Anyway, today I was able to get in a very satisfying workout. Such a great release. I also picked up Starting Strength from the library today. After skimming through the book and reading paragraphs randomly I've decided I really need to own this book. Too much good stuff in there for me not to have right on hand to refer to. And speaking of books, I saw this one at Barnes and Noble today. Have any of you read this, Die Fat or Get Tough. http://www.amazon.com/Die-Fat-Get-To...876850&sr=1-15 Any thoughts about it. I wanted to browse through it but it was sealed in plastic at the store. Guess I will need to buy it. The library doesn't have it either. Back to the workouts...with great envy I watched a young gent complete kipping pullups this morning. I can the standard pullups, about six to eight unassisted but if I could do kipping pullups I would rule the world...I'm pretty sure this was something Cheryl could do too or was working on...I'll go check videos and see what I can learn. I know...CrossFit is the answer. Right? I humored myself by saying my were just as good...slow deliberate, time under tension...but seriously, to be able to do both would be nice. :D Shannon: There is a really great yoga podcast called Move and Sweat. I'm not into labels with yoga and nope I certainly would not replace it with my HIIT for the week but...nice warm up to a workout. http://www.yogajournal.com/video/123 I'm going to give it a try to see how it transfers onto the mat for "me". Sometimes its hard to do a podcast with just audio unless it's been practiced a few times. Enjoy the evening everyone. :goodvibes: |
Shannon,

I am now up to 160lbs :o Which is where I was when I began my weight loss journey 6 years ago. I'll be around here a lot after to get back down ;)

WoW Sacha, nice pic!
Rabbit |
I was just wondering about Sacha this afternoon. Glad to hear everything is going well.
This cold has knocked me for a loop. I haven't had one for probably 3 years. I took a nap this afternoon and then had a short burst of energy which I used to cook some stuff for the rest of the week (and dinner!). Then spent the evening on the couch watching TV and knitting. Sigh. Hopefully I can get something resembling a workout tomorrow without feeling like I'm on my last legs. I feel like a wimp and yet the silliest things leave me very tired. Grrrr. How did your DYI stuff go this weekend Rabbit? And a birthday report Shannon? |
Pat,
welcome back. How was New England? Did you make it to Bonsai West? Last week was hard, my lower back was really acting up and I did not exercise until yesterday, when I decided back or no back, I have to start moving. I got 40 minutes cardio down, and then still red beet faced and with my hair wet from the shower, I arrived to the yoga class just a minute before it started. I think the yoga helped as usual. Starting this week, there is an additional yoga class (Thursday nights), at least for the summer. Brad (our yoga instructor) announced that he will focus on inversion and his plan is have us all standing on our heads by the end of summer. Good luck with that! I was sore ALL OVER today and I could not believe it. I don't know if it was from the fact that did not do much during the week or from the yoga (there were some new poses, like downward dog on your elbows (i.e. the entire forearm on the floor) - it's a lot harder than the regular version - I think my BUTT hurts the most. The sore butt also could be from a pretty fast walk for 3 days in the row through a conservation area - I got a new little pedometer thingy that tells me that route is 2 miles and I cover it in 34 minutes (with the dogs in tow). There was a blurb about :swim: (well, stats mostly) in the last issue of Oxygen and I was surprised to find out that breast stroke burns 590 calories in an hour. Only butterfly burns more, and all other styles burn less. Also, it said that in a 25 m pool you need to swim 32 laps/64 lengths to cover 1 mile, so I decided to count it today. In my usual 35 minutes, I covered 58 lengths, so I was only 6 lengths/3 laps away from 1 mile (but I really can't stay any longer). I don't know if it's good or bad (I consider myself a slow swimmer), I am sure I won't beat Dara Torres any time soon. :^: I have to admit though that counting the numbers pushed me to swim faster, also, I shared the lane with another lady who was quite fast (she was changing styles) so it was an additional motivator not to fall behind. It was a great workout, even though it was only 35 minutes. Alena |
Alena - New ENgland was lovely. :) I did not get to the bonsai place, but I told my friends about it. We did spend an afternoon at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens which are fantastic. We also spent a lovely weekend in Maine with my DH's brother and family, including a visit to a renovated alewives fish ladder.... I so enjoyed the spring flowers and blossoming trees everywhere. And also the lobster. After that I flew to Florida to see a friend and went to some tropical botanic gardens! Very different. ANd home to the beginnings of spring here.
I'm still down with this cold/sinus crud. Moved into my chest overnight, so most activity leaves me short of breath. Grrrr. I'm hoping to take my bike out for a leisurely spin this afternoon if it stays :sunny: without wind. Need to start getting my butt in shape for longer rides. :) to everyone. |
Hi!
Alena - that sounds like great workouts aal togerther. It is amazing how much you do in just 35 minutes! Pat - sorry about the cold/crud. My DIY plans happened for 50% as I decided to go visit family on saturday & had a bad day on sunday. The crud laste through mmonday but turned monday evening, so I'm looking forward to the rest of the week. It is supposed to be great weather for the next 5 days, so I'll be biking to work, visiting Bruges on thursday, and work in my garden over the long weekend. DS has his finaal exams these 2 weeks so we are all keeping our fingers crossed. have agreat day all, Rabbit |
I've had a stomach bug for two days. Yuck. I have no time to be sick. Managed cardio this morning, but that's about it. Off to work, attempting to NOT get sick on the train! NICE belly, Sacha! Welcome back, Pat :) Hello to all- gotta run! mel |
Good luck to Lil' Bunny Rabbit at the finals!
I did 15 minutes of cardio and then 30 minutes of abs (P90X Ab Ripper and Jackie Warner's Abs). I have to run back to the TV to watch The Biggest Loser. Alena |
Wow I can't believe all the sickies here this week. Well, count me in for one too DS came home with a runny nose cold and two days later I'm dragging around with it. I always look so haggard when I'm sick. Blech.
On a good note, I forced myself to keep the appointment with the podiatrist. She's 45 minutes away and was running an hour behind. DSs in tow were not pleased. My foot is taped. I was given a script for an anti-inflammatory and a night splint. I go back in a week. There is a promise that if I'm good I MIGHT be able to run and (say it isn't so) JUMP in two weeks. We'll see. I'm just thrilled to finally have help with this. I'm a dork for waiting this out and trying to take care of it myself. Sacha: YOU LOOK GREAT! And in TWO WEEKS you are going to be holding that new little babe if not close to it! That's something to get excited about. Best of luck during these last few days. All right, feel better everyone. I'm going to bed. I was up all night last night after watching "Love Actually" as suggested a while ago by Alena. For some reason that movie disturbed me. It's probably just the cold playing with my head. Have a great evening everyone. |
Crud, Bleh & TOM here also. It is like a global thing. hope everyone gets well soon,
Rabbit |
I still have it as well, though I had more energy today. Not enough to workout, but at least enough to clean 2 flowerbeds and plant some annuals. :)

Good morning :sunny: <---- for the first time in a week!
Yesterday bench pressing was our initial strength lift at Crossfit. Yikes..have my max weights gone down! I was being given high fives for 115 pds and my previous PR was 155 five years ago when I was actually TRAINING for bench presses. Another proof that the body adapts to specific training. Again, there is not particular reason that I need to bench more than my body weight, but I was disappointed. On the flip side, I have a physical scheduled for tonight and I've already had all my blood work and scans done, and I know I'm in better health than I was even 2 years ago. In reality, that counts for more than numbers on a particular lift. How is everyone else feeling? The crud was short-lived here. Hope you all are well! Mel |

Hi everyone! I have been totally slack in this thread this week. Thanks for the birthday wishes! The week sadly went downhill from there... Lots of drama at work, pounding headache all week, TOM and ick feeling, I've totally been in the sick and rundown group this week.... Still have some headache, but am hopefully getting to the bottom of the work drama. It has been UGLY. And is likely to get uglier if we find more evidence of wrong doing...
I've been okay with the workouts this week, bad with the food. Was going to get back on track yesterday, but had ice cream after DSS's pre-k graduation instead. SO, back on track today. I swear. :) Sacha - great pic! Back later! |
Aw Mel that is a bummer, but it is incredible how specific training for one particular goal can really make a difference! At least you know that you can do 155 and blast that again one day :p
Thanks Shannon & everyone else. I have stopped weight training in the past two weeks, I can't do anything except presses with proper form. I look forward to getting back into it. I will be doing a stumptuous 4 day push/pull routine :) |
Mel - 115# still sounds great to me, as my PR for bench press so far is 60#. Eek. I have to work on that! And you will definitely build back up fast if you keep at it, I'm sure.
|
Still marginally sick here.... At least it's :sunny: here, and supposed to be close to 70 by Sunday. We'll see.....
I did manage a bike ride yesterday, and probably will again today. I can't even think about lifting right now. Hopefully by the weekend. |
Hi all
Mel - Good job on the bloodwork & other stats (and 115 still sounds great to me!) Shannon, Pat - hopefully the crud is lessening... I had a very long day in Bruges yesterday, but today is off AND the start of another sunny 4 day weekend! I'm off shopping this morning, and doing gardening cardio next. unfortunately my maintenance is not working out...still weight creep and still my motivation is over everyday when I get home from work. On the good side of things I have been able to actually stay up longer in the evenings & spend more time with the kids. We'll see where it goes from here. have a great day all, Rabbit |
Good morning, all!
Sorry I have been absent. The husband graduated a week ago, and family was in town until Monday, and then I have had a to do list eight miles long since everyone left. Unfortunately that means that I haven't lifted in 8 or 9 days (depending on how you count it). Yet the last four days I've dropped pounds on the scale very rapidly. Could this be because of muscle loss? That's my guess. I also wonder if I'm going to have to start back at ground zero since I did two weeks and then have had more than a week of nothing. I guess we'll see today! Mel--I can't wait to be able to say that I lifted even 100 lbs. on ANY lift! But I understand how it can be disappointing for you. Shannon--happy belated birthday. I'm sorry that there's all that drama around you. Apparently I've been the opposite of you--good on the food, bad on the workouts! Maybe we can both get it together, um...together. Heh. WaterRat--I hope you're feeling better. Rabbit--Good luck with your maintenance. I know, though I've never been at goal weight, that maintenance is far harder than weight loss. |
Eumie,
My guess would be that the weight loss was water related. Muscles retain water after lifting. You would not lose muscle in 8 days. |
OMG am I ever sore! We did reverse weighted tire pulls yesterday and I haven't been so sore for years! Back, hamstrings, glutes, calves..... ow!
|
Mel that must be really something to get YOU sore! I googled "reverse weighte dtire pull" and did nog get results. What is it that you do in that exercise?
rabbit |
It's like pulling a weight sled, except that we use truck tires filled with dumbbells, which are HARDER to pull because the rubber and the asphalt have no friction.
Cardio done, stealth yoga at lunch, Xfit tonight. I need a vacation! Dh is home from university and stays up all night. He didn't believe me when I told him I got up at 5am to workout then get to the train. Mel |
Saturday - my back really bugged me (it started Friday night just before I went to bed [WTF?!?] so I skipped TRX. It got better during the day so in the evening, I did P90X Shoulders and Triceps plus P90X Ab Ripper. I found out that the ab exercises were a lot easier on my back this time (I suppose because my internal temp had to be close to 40 C).
Sunday - yoga. This morning - 40 minutes of cardio. We expect horrible weather - hot and humid, exactly what I hate the most so I figured I better get the exercise done in the a.m. as I will have enough of just walking the fourleggers in the evening. Plus I have to finish some mulching that I started yesterday. The Czech Republic beat Russia and snatched the gold medal at hockey world championship in Germany. Yay!!! I was doing a search for something at 3FC and I accidentally unearthed some posts from last October when I was MIA. Birchie - you are such a Skinny Minnie! :carrot: Mel - yeah, you are nothing but muscles (I had seen your pic before so I was not surprised. Thumbs up nonetheless. You could pull an entire tractor!
