BFL/BB #67 C3FC Week 2!!!!
Welcome to Week Two! I know a lot of you are taking free meal or free day today but I thought about Erik's advice in his "good luck" thread (the most recent post) and I think a daily checkin, workout and food is a good idea.
Today I worked out at 5 am!!!! I am not doing Free Meal/Free Day today because I started on Tuesday AND I think that with my wacky schedule it is best to leave Free Meal/Free Day as a necessity and not a planned event. I'm going to use it as an absolute contingency plan (though I plan my meals pretty well so I don't foresee a lot of "emergencies") but interviewing starts next week and last year I remember a group of very tired and cranky law students eating after interviewing days. So I might have a meal or two out in the next few weeks. Still, my goal is to exercise it only in great emergencies or I just NEED it (rather than want it). Today I did a full UBWO. I'd like to split it but haven't figured out how yet. I did chest press and flyes and then I needed the cable apparatus for the back exercises and the gym rat guys were all over it. I went over anyway and TWO WOMEN followed me. The guys scattered (they "hang out" there more than anything else) Then I did shoulders, tris and bis. I was exhausted by the time I got to bis so I would like to split it up. The yoga class was cancelled so I came home but I should have done a swim or something (not that I had my bathing suit with me) but I'd like to capitalize on how quiet the gym is at that time and have some stuff to myself. I don't know what the upside or downside is to doing weights two days in a row (I plan to do cardio 2 days in a row too) but I'd like to utilize the weekend gym for weights so that is how I'm going to do it for now. I don't really see any problem with it, but if anyone has a comment (good or bad) please let me know. Thanks! Right now I'm having a berry blast mrp with udos and frozen strawberries. I took a multivitamin, glutamine and CLA with it. :) Feeling good. I love this camp thing. I feel so committed. |
Day #7 is going well. Did cardio this morning before meal #1 and I'm off to the gym in just a few minutes for my bi/tri/ab workout. My gym doesn't open until 10am on sundays which means I can't get in my weight workout before meal #1 ;-( I took a partial free day on Friday (chinese takeout and cookies for dinner), and particiapted in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk on Saturday (5K) - was a great cardio workout. The trail had great hills. I'm really feeling those hanstrings this morning!
susan: is skinnydippping not permitted at your gym? I usually lift weighs on both Saturday and Sunday as well. I enjoy my weekend workouts because I'm not pushed for time and the gym is nice and quiet, so I feel as though my workouts are much better on the weekends than they are during the week. Have a great week #2, ladies! |
C3FC for real
Hi, everyone!
Tomorrow will be the first time in a year trying something substantially different from plain BFL. I was going to join you all just with BFL and some moderation in free days, but progress has stalled -- it's time for a change. Brian and I will be doing something similar to Camp Pam Brown, but with modifications to fit our eating tastes and exercise schedule. We'll see if it's enough to give us a jump start. My goals include: 100% nutrition. 100% water. Hit 10s in lifting (I'm not really doing that now). Better effort in Cardio. Moderate free days/meals. 18% bodyfat by New Year, 20% or lower by end of C3FC. Do pushups on my toes in TKD class. Pullup on assist level 5 (I do it on 8 now). Wishing you all continued success! Carrie |
Feeling great!
Hey guys! :goodvibes
Well today is day ummmmm..... day 2 of week 2 for me. I lose track of the days after a while. I had a great back/bis workout with sprints after it yesterday and quads/abs this morning. I plan on taking the dogs for a run this evening before my classes. My free day was great. I had a slight craving for sugar but got over it fairly quickly. I had some pizza, popcorn and a lebanese chicken kebab. I kept up with my water though so I didn't have a carb hangover the next day. Hubby and I watched some DVD's on Saturday night and it was nice to relax with him. We are so busy all the time that we don't get much time to relax. Sunday was cooking and cleaning day. All in all it was a fairly great weekend. I had loads of sleep because I had forgotten how tired I get on this program. :^: Susan: I am doing weights every day with one day a week rest. It's a different sort of routine though than BFL based on Pam's original training for her first comp. It's split into 2 bodyparts a day. If you want me to give you details let me know and I will post it. Today's was quad/abs - 3 sets 15 reps of leg press, 3 sets of 15 reps of leg extension and the same of barbell squats. Then 3 sets of 15 crunches, leg raises and incline situps. I take a 30 second to 1 minute rest between sets and this takes me about 30 minutes to complete. The weights are about the same as a 6 or 7 level on BFL so that the last reps of each bodypart are difficult but not impossible. It's not meant to push the limits it is meant to fatigue the muscle. It's great when you are doing more cardio than normal because it works you without totally wearing you out. Basically it's a fatburning tool. wcolleen: skinnydipping huh? Carrie: great goals there! MrsJim: You are always full of little gem sayings! I love it! Hubby told me last night that he thinks that everytime he sees me I look like I have lost more weight. Wait until he sees the next few weeks progress! :cb: LOVING LIFE! JC :grouphug: |
checking in...
Still going strong!
I had my free meal and dessert on Thursday night...ravioli with homemade spaghetti sauce, garlic bread and then some ice cream at the local stand before they close for the season. It was so sweet that I could only eat a little bit of it! I jumped on the scale today...I'm down six pounds this week. I know that it's all water though, as I can put on six-ten pounds in one free day, so it's not all that surprising. My jeans are much looser though and my arms and abs are a lot tighter so those two things have me sure I'm heading in the right direction. I hit the gym early this morning, 7:30am, I had the entire place to myself the whole hour I was there. It was wonderful! I like to do my barbell squats in peace and quiet...there is a trainer at my gym who insists that doing them will make my butt and quads big and I'm to the point where I avoid him at all costs. He sees my results too, the fact that lifting heavy has not made me bigger AT ALL, and he still refuses to listen to reason. Drives me crazy!! Not sure when I'm taking my free meal this week. There's a new Mexican restaurant in town that I'm dying to try and I'm also craving a Hershey's bar for some reason or another (I have been watching candy shows on Food Network again), so I think I'm going to have one of them. One free meal a week is HARD, nice to know that I can do it though. Sounds like you're all doing really well! I hope everyone had a nice relaxing weekend. Susanje--I don't see any problem lifting two days in a row as long as you're not working the same muscles two days in a row. There are plenty of ways to split up your UB too, there's no way I could go back to doing it like straight BFL--I would tire out my shoulders and arms before I even got done with my chest exercises. I'm off to sleep ladies, have a great Monday! Maggie |
Monday, fabulous Monday!
Well! Hope everyone enjoyed their Free Day this weekend! I know I did ;) maybe a bit too much...we did go to Yumi Yogurt yesterday and each had a vanilla Carbolite yogurt cone. Before that, a burrito for lunch. YUM! Back on track today!
This week on CPB - I have more carbs. Yay! My workouts for this week are as follows: Sunday - chest/quads Monday - Shoulders/abs/calves and cardio HIIT Tuesday - back/hams Wednesday - cardio MAS Thursday - bis/tris and cardio HIIT Friday - Cardio MAS Saturday - Chest/quads I'm motivated and ready for another great week! This morning at L&S, QuadZilla posted the following and encouraged me to share it with y'all: Quote:

Great morning.
What a wonderful post from Quadzilla! It's great to read everyone's posts on a Monday morning -- to become re-charged for the week ahead.
BTW: Has anyone seen the Jamie Curtis article in More magazine? I just saw it this weekend and thought it was fantastic. In case you haven't seen/heard about it, Jamie Curtis participated in a photo shoot where, in one pic., she's totally herself - no makeup, airbrushing, etc. As she put it, this is how at least one 43-year-old woman looks without all of the primping that goes on in Hollywood. In my eyes, she looked a little pudgy, but not bad at all. In the next photo, after being worked on by about 10 professionals (makeup, hair, sexy dress, spiky heels . . . ), she looks fantastic. You would never guess that she's the same person. I think it's healthy to see someone who's business is based, in part, on appearance, say, hey - a lot of the Hollywood image is just lights and mirrors. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great day. Talk to you tomorrow. Mox P.S. I've lost a little more weight (from 236 to 223) and a few more inches. Yea! |
Mox: I like the Monday re-affirmations as well. Great way to head into a new week!
JEC: I'd be interested in seeing your split, if ya have time to post it. I'm currently following a split routine I put together based on Krista Smash's website, but I'm looking to mix it up some. Well, after an exhausting weekend, I wasn't able to get up for the gym this morning. I was *very* disappointed. I don't even remember the alarm going off at 5:40! So I will go tonight. I usually do my weightlifting in the eveneing anyways, but I love the way that I feel after a short AM cardio session. I'm feeling exhausted and sluggish today, as a result of not fitting it in. :( |
I'M STILL HERE.........
Hi girls,
How is everyone? I'm SOOOOO SORRY I didn't post last week... I didn't even have time to lurk... I spent Saturday nite reading everyone's posts of of the week, took me quite a while too... Then when it was time to post a reply the page didn't download...grrrr.... It's just been so hectic here... I'm back to work, and it's stressing me out... I'm only a TEMP school secretary, but I've been working at one school now for the last 3 years...I really like it tho everyone there is so nice...but they've gone and cut one the the secretaries in the office, and we're down to 3, we are running like fools... I barely have time to pee, let alone drink my water or my coffee for that matter... I do take a well deserved break, and have been drinking a protein drink and a fruit... Water was almost nil through all the week, and that really annoys me... Maybe, just maybe I'm done venting...I'm not sure yet...LOL... My free day, which I chose as Friday turned out to extend to Sat. and part of Sunday too.... Last nite I biked 20K, (about 10miles, Karen...;) ) This morning I had a LBWO did: Squats: 5 sets Dead lifts: 1 set Lunges: several sets Side lunges: several sets Calves: only had time for one set Abs.... I feet really great.... Today food has been clean, and I was able to drink 6 glasses of water before 10AM....That's pretty good considering last week was very bad water wise... Karen, thanks for the post from Quadzilla... Made me think alot.... I'll try posting daily this week more regularly. Good Luck one and all, all your posts are a great inspiration to me, you are all a great help.. Love.... |
Still here!
Hi everybody! Hope you all had good weekends. I got in a good cardio session on Saturday while watching tennis matches (dusted off the old nordic track, forgot what a workout that is), and managed to eat clean all week-end til last nite when we all went for my birthday treat. I had told everyone NO CAKE, so we went to DQ and I had a small blizzard- no leftovers to call my name! Other than that, have stayed 100% with nutrition, water, and workouts. Yeah! I'm going to try to go treatless for the next 3 weeks and see if that helps any.
Anybody else feel totally stuffed all the time on Pam's menus? I swear, my stomach is stretching again! This week is going to be really wild at work, plus I took on a fairly large house decorating job. I used to run a decorating business for 12 years until the little old ladies who just wanted a friend drove me out of my mind. A neighbor who I had done work for before begged me to do this for her, and I figured some extra $$ right now would sure come in handy. Won't let it interfere with my gym time, but I may not be on the boards as much for a while.... :( Sounds like everyone's doing fine! Keep at it! mel |
Re: BFL/BB #67 C3FC Week 2!!!!
You can do weights two days in a row but not the same body parts as you have to let your body part recover so it can repair and build that muscle you want; also you can serously injure a muscle by working the same muscle twice in a row....as per Karen Andres, "The Woman's Book of Strength". Good Luck!! :^:
I don't know what the upside or downside is to doing weights two days in a row (I plan to do cardio 2 days in a row too) but I'd like to utilize the weekend gym for weights so that is how I'm going to do it for now. I don't really see any problem with it, but if anyone has a comment (good or bad) please let me know. Thanks! |
How many days in a row?
DNW and whomever asked the question initially: As long as you don't work the same muscle, you can lift six days in a row. It is important to have at least 1 day OFF a week, tho. I seriously injured my rotator cuff muscles several years ago by doing "circuit training" daily. Working the same muscles even with less heavy weights is dangerous!

Hello girls,
I can't believe I've had time today to post not just once but twice  !! I had a fairly good clean food day... It's my daughter's birthday and everyone had icecream cake except me, and I didn't mind at all... BUT I'm annoyed at myself for giving into some cheerio snax while I was making supper, I had 3 handfuls, then threw the rest out.... I was pleased with that because I was aiming to see the bottom of that bowl!! Work is very stressful these days and bad food choices seems to hit me while I'm preparing supper around 4:30 or so... I did go for a nice fast bike ride after supper... It's extremely hot here, it was in the mid 90's... I like it though, I went for a nice swim after work and after my bike ride and hubby and I will go just before we go to bed tonite... Here's wishing everyone a very good day tomorrow... Later all.... |
Monday
Hello ladies--
Another great workout today! I did shoulders, abs, calves and 45 minutes of moderate cardio on the elliptical (too hot to run/walk outside). Mel--glad to hear that you're doing well on CPB eating. I always was so interested in home decorating too. Pam had warned me that this week's calories were low and that I should let her know how I was feeling. Well, after my workout (1:45-3pm), I came home and had to sit down. I had zero energy. So I decided to eat my afternoon meal and see how I felt. Lots of veggies, but no "real" carbs (at least to my thinking). I didn't feel any better at all after eating and making a trek to the library. At this point, I was just about in binge mode and seriously considering making tonight a free night. Instead, I emailed Pam and told her how I was feeling. She got back to me in like 10 minutes, told me to fill my tummy with healthy food and to adjust my meals for the rest of the week. I'm now feeling 100% better and ready to roll for the rest of the week. Take care and have a great night! Maggie |
Yeah yeah!
Another great day! I just suffered thorugh 2 low carb days but let me tell you it was easier this week than it was last week. That's for sure!
I am trying something different for lunch today. Instead of eating my 3rd meal food separately I have thrown it into a big bowl and made a huge salad. It's really yummy. It has lettuce, broccoli, chopped roast beef, salsa, rice, flaxseed oil and a pinch of mustard. I may try this more often. Glad to hear that everyone is going strong. Last night I saw the makings of a six-pack on my stomach which really motivated me! I still have huge thighs to get rid of though. :^: Moxie: I LOVE ravioli - it's my favourite pasta. Great Free food. Don't play down your hard efforts either - it may not be all water if your pants are lose as well! Way to go with burning fat!! Pam is great huh? I am glad that you went back to her for advice instead of caving in to your cravings! Well done! :D MrsJim: Thank Zilla for his wonderful words for me will you? He is a true gentleman. Mox: We don't have the magazine over here but one of our national mags had a copy of the picture and put it in their magazine. I was shocked to say the least and very happy! I had no idea that they could change someone so much. She actually looks quite NORMAL! I admire her for her courage. wcolleen: my split works over a 2 week period. So over the 14 days there are 2 rest days and the 12 workouts are divided into 3 periods of 4 days each. Thus; Sunday: back/bis (1) Monday: Quads/abs (2) Tues: shoulders/tris (3) Wed: Chest/hammies (4) Thurs: Repeat cycle (1) Friday: ditto (2) Saturday: rest day Sunday: continue cycle (3) Monday: ditto (4) Tuesday: start cycle again (1) Wed: ditto (2) Thurs: ditto (3) Friday: ditto (4) Saturday: rest day So over the 2 week period you hit each bodypart 3 times. I do 3 sets of 12-15 reps for each exercise and 3 exercises per bodypart. So today is shoulders/tris so I will do; :barbell: Shoulders bent- over raises 3 sets of 15 sitting shoulder raises 3 sets of 15 beth horn raises 3 sets of 15 Tris pushdowns 3 sets of 15 french press 3 sets of 15 dips 3 sets of 15 It takes about 30-40 minutes to do the workout. Then on top of that I have cardio. My cardio varies but basically I do over a one week period; 2 lots HIIT sprints (12 minutes) 2 run/jogs - decent pace (15-20 mins) 2 walk/jogs - slower pace (20-30 minutes) with my dogs. I often split them up so I will do weights in the morning and run at night. Some days I do it all in an afternoon. It depends on college and work and other commitments. I have to admit I love this routine and it cuts up my muscles better than the pyramid sets. I switch between pyramid and high sets regluarly though so my training is well rounded. Oh by the way I don't train calves because of all the running. Mel: Be careful going totally treatless - it can be very hard. Yes I feel totally full on Pam's menu. It's crazy to think that you can only be consuming a small amount of calories but you feel like a pig! That's the beauty of fibrous vegetables they are calorie sparse but dense to eat. :tomato: Hubby started his program last night so he was complaining about 'jelly legs' all night. Glad it was him and not me! He comes home and I asked him what he did at the gym today (his is at work) and he said legs. I said cool what did you do for legs? He says squats, leg press and leg extensions. I said I thought you were training legs not just quads? Then he tries to argue with me that leg press is a hammie exercise. That was his total leg workout - no wonder he has chicken legs! But I didn't argue with him because he is a man and they always think that they are right! :dz: I will just wait until I get my beautiful cut up legs and then I will show him! He finally listens to me about nutrition at least now. :cookie: He has a super fast metobolism so he needs loads of carbs - lucky  Anyway big :grouphug: for everyone! JC |
Thanks to everyone for posting their routines. It really helps! I am formulating ideas. I like the idea of back/bis. My bis are usually so tired by the time I get to the end of UBWO.
I was so sore today. I definitely hit 10s over the weekend on both UBWO and LBWO. I can barely walk and my abs are sore as well. I did some cardio today but it was definitely the lite version due to muscle pain. does anyone take ibuprophen or aspirin before working out when you are sore? I took tons of glutamine yesterday (tripled my dosage) but am still sore. I am thinking that tomorrow I might need some. ate clean today, did all my cooking for the week (didn't get to it yesterday) and am feeling strong!!! |
I love back/bis - it's one of my favourites.
I don't take aspirin because I find glutamine takes care of my pain. I take it once in the morning and then once at night. What dosage are you taking? Are you using pills or powder? Well done on the cooking! JC |
JEC, I am actually taking the 1000 milligram capsule. I took 3 on Sunday and one before I left the house on Monday. I took another at noontime on Monday and still could not walk very well. I have no idea what the absorption of glutamine is (If after so many milligrams you're just wasting your time) or how much is too much. I'm a little less sore today so we'll see how it goes but I really don't want to lose a workout day to soreness.
On another note: Does anyone know where to buy rye or wheat Melba Toast (the classic melba toast, not the rounds or the bagel)? I can only find the white kind. I don't know if it is a west coast limitation or if they are not making it anymore. Have a good day all! Workout and eat clean! Susan |
Just stopping by....
I am finally able to post a message. (This is Pam B.)
I am so encouraged reading all of your posts!! You girls are on FIRE!!! I envision great things coming from this support group. Maybe you could all be Oprah-bound!! :) Keep up the awesome work, the support, and the drive to succeed! I'm rooting for all of ya!! Pam :D |
PAM!!!
So ya finally got through!!! Yippee!
And with your comp less than a week away...you must be getting excited (of course you're an old hand at this by now, right? ) I DO believe we are on fire here! Us 3FC bodybuilders have it goin' on big time!!! :strong: And I KNOW we'll see great results. Susan - I have seen the melba toast but it's been AGES since I ever bought the stuff (brings me back to my old diet days of cottage cheese and Ry-Krisp). Keep looking - I'll bet they're making it somewhere. Have you tried Trader Joe's? You also might want to try glucosamine. I don't know much about it myself but have heard good things about it! Well last night, after being so good for so long, my precious kitty decided to wake us up at 2 am by barfing on the bedroom floor (we haven't been measuring his food out and he tends to overeat). Soooo...we had to clean it up of course (thank goodness the floor is wood!) then cuddle Sparky for a bit (not that he needed it - for him, throwing up is like burping). We went back to bed, then as soon as I started going back to sleep, Sparky decided he wanted to wake up and rattle the blinds for a bit...then went to the spot where he vomited and started 'cleaning it up' by raking his claws against the floor (even though we had cleaned it up already) like he was covering it up with imaginary dirt! Well, because of all that, I overslept and didn't wake up til 5 am!!! :fr: I did get in my back/hams workout but no time for cardio - however, I brought my workout clothes and hope to hit the gym this afternoon to make up for that! Whew! That naughty kitty! Back to work - and I'm WAY behind on my water so I'm taking my bottles to the water filter station! Later gals! |
Yikes! 5:00 a.m., MrsJim?!? I'm just entering into my best REM sleep right around then. ;)
And thanks to Pam for checking in on us. I sometimes lurk on Lean and Strong, and I know how respected you are. I'm feeling a little low energy today -- I don't think it has anything to do with diet/exercise. I sometimes just get sooo tired with everything that's on my to-do list everyday. Sigh. Not that it's any different for anyone else. I haven't been posting my workouts because I'm following the BFL plan to the letter, and I figure you gals are all familiar with the exercise scheme. I still working on integrating different types of weight lifting exercises into my schedule (i.e., different ways to work my bis, quads, etc.), so it's very helpful to me to read what you specifically do. Gotta get back to work. Hope everyone is well. Peace, Mox |
Just wanted to quickly post that I did get to the company gym at noon (it's in one of our other buildings across the street) and did a 20 MAS on the elliptical with a 5 minute cooldown...
Just waiting a bit - then I'll have my third meal o' the day! It's gorgeous in the Bay Area - Sept/Oct is the BEST time around the Bay, weather-wise - so I'll probably be getting on my bike for a spin around the neighborhood after work! Woo hoo! |
Susan: I take the powder glutamine which a teaspoon is 5 grams or 5000 milligrams. I take that once in the morning and one at night. I find that it takes about 12-24 hrs to kick in fully. I don't think that you are taking enough although it is hard with pills to get a good dosage.
Glucosamine is more for your joints. I have it in a powder form and take it when my knees get sore. If they aren't sore then I won't take it. I have been using both glutamine and glucosamine for about a year now. JC PS: Sorry about Sparky Karen! Last night we had a blackout and the DVD beeped as it was turned off and on again - Benny (my baby Beagle) jumped up and barked at the DVD - it was 4am. Luckily he woke me up and I noticed the alarm had been killed from the blackout. I reset the time after looking at my watch and went back to bed. Talk about a livesaver! Gotta love your pets! |
Tuesday
Another great day! I do so well when I don't have to make any decisions and everything is written down for me. Otherwise I just get into a big ole rut and do the same thing day in and day out. I think that's what was causing my looooong plateau and increasing frustration.
Turns out "my" chicken breasts were about 1.5 time bigger than what Pam had in mind! no wonder I couldn't finish anything that had chicken....it's a wonder I think I'm actually starting to shake loose a little fat! Despite the shorter workouts, more cardio, and almost double doses of chicken! Moxiegirl: Where is Meadville? Are you out in western pa and that's why I've never heard of it? Susanje- I was getting ferocious cluster headaches for while whenever I worked out, and took several ibuprophen before the workouts. Didn't seem to hurt anything, and maybe even helped the headaches. Probably would help with muscles if you are SO SORE that you can't do the workout, but try glucosamine and more glutamine. Hi Pam! Thanks for popping in. It's fun to have surprise visitors. mel |
Hi everyone!
Thanks for your great answers and support! JEC: I can't believe I'm not taking enough glutamine!!! Wow! And I thought I was taking enough all along! Mel: I did take ibruprophen before heading out on my nightly trek and it helped a lot. I tucked a small thing of it into my school backpack. Hi Pam! I may have ka-boshed our Oprah chances after my dis on Dr. Phil was published in this week's Newsweek! Well, if you're going to tick someone off, go straight to the top! Mrs Jim: I know what you mean about Melba Toast and diet associations. Hubby brought some home one day (the white kind) and I dipped it in my egg whites and it was crunchy/yummy)...no fat and low cal but I'd love to do rye or wheat and not the white on occasion. I looked at Trader Joes but they only had the rounds and the bagels. I went to the old london web site and they don't have contact info or else I'd write and ask! Frustrating! Well, I have an early day and must get some sleep! Nighty night! CAMP 3FC RULZ  |
I know how you feel Mel! I had to go back to weighing everything when I started CPB to make sure that I was getting the exact amount of food. Glad that I don't have to do this all the time because it's a bit crazy weighing your food all the time.
Pam's menus are meant to be exact sizes otherwise you throw out the ratios of protein to carbs and calories. Since it's based in zig zagging there is little margin for error. JC |
Hi Ladies,
Yeh I'm still here, cheering you all on. I've been popping in really quick just to read posts. You gals are amazing with your enthusiasm! It's been a really busy week for me and I haven't done the best but I know why and I know what to fix for this week. I have been making everyone else a priority except me and when that happens, my workouts and nutrition aren't good! My daughter starts school for the first time on Monday and I am a little stressed about that. Four years old still seems like a baby to me. She's excited to go but I've been a stay at home mom since she was born and I'm not that excited about her going. I know this is only the beginning of letting her go. Today is one week for me because I came in running behind the bus. I've been stumbling here and there but still moving forward. I'm going to try and post more this week and make my health more of a priority. Full steam ahead! |
9/11
Hey y'all - hope you're having a good day...
Here at work, we had a moment to reflect at 8:46 am pacific time...at 5:46 am PST (or 8:46 am NYC Time) I was at the gym doing my cardio and watching the events unfold at Ground Zero. All morning a song has been going through my head - "Don't Tread on Me" by Metallica... Quote:
Mel and JC - I had the same problem with the chicken breasts!! I usually buy the frozen boneless skinless ones in the 4-pound bags. By Day 2, I was ready to swear off chicken...until I emailed Pam and she set me straight. That's when I started weighing my chicken breasts! Like Mel, I was amazed that I was still losing weight! Actually I am already noticing a significant difference in the ol' Pants-o-Meter (I didn't weigh myself for this Challenge - I'm just going by clothes size and abs visibility!). Even though it is a day of mourning, it is a lovely day here and I'm going to keep a positive outlook and EAT CLEAN!! We are all doing so well! Thunder- keep posting!!! |
Mrs. Jim:
I went to the Fitday.com site and thanks a million for linking it on your site....it's amazing...you helped me today |
Oops -- A little fall off the wagon.
I've had a bad day so far -- all because I let stress get to me and didn't plan well enough. First of all, I slept in this a.m. and missed my workout. I ate my planned breakfast, but then I had to go to court and then meet with co-counsel. Everything took longer than I thought it would, so I didn't have my mid-morning meal, and for the meeting, we decided to go out to lunch (Corner Bakery). I'm sure there were things to get on-plan, but I kinda let go and had instead chicken salad (high fat) on lettuce and those killer hand-made potato chips. (If there was any upside to this meal, it's that I had berries for dessert . . .) So, I'm trying to get over the stress and not let this de-rail me. I'm sure this is just a blip, but it sure is discouraging given how faithful everyone has been -- and how energetic everyone else is during this 6-week challange. I just wanted to be honest and report the bad, as well as the good. Hope everyone else is having a much better day. Peace, Mox

We are human!
I just want to say that we are all human and we all slip up now and then - it's just how you handle the slip up that determines whether it is a test or a mistake. :^:
I have had a bad morning as well. I stayed up to watch the special on 9/11 until 11pm which is waaaaaayyyy past my bedtime. As such I didn't get up to go to the gym this morning. I will still go for a run tonight and just do my weights tomorrow morning with my friday batch as well. Problem solved! I still am disappointed in myself but I will get over it - like my husband says all the time; "Build a bridge" (meaning get over it - don't waste time sulking) ;) Mox: I really appreciate and admire your honesty. You are a special person indeed because most people would rather go into denial than face up to their mistakes and misjudgements. Don't beat yourself up so much! We all still love you! MrsJim: Yeah the food is so crucial on this plan. I know how you feel about temptation. I actually don't watch TV on a regular basis but last night I watched the special they had on over here. It always shocks me with all the advertising and how I only start to crave foods when I see them advertised on TV! I so could have cheated last night but I didn't! Submissive advertising is huge - I am glad that I stay away from it. I am noticing a difference in the pantsometer and scale as well. Very happy about that! :cb: To anyone on Pam's diet: Do you notice bodyheat changes at all at different times? I seem to be cold all the time unless it's the day after a high carb day when I am burning up! I have a theory about it but I wanted to check if anyone else had the problem first! Last night at the gym I had to take off my singlet because I was so hot and sweaty - it was disturbing my concentration on my sprints. I had a sports top on underneath though! and may I say that I was given quite a few sideways glances! Woo Hooo (oh for those of you who haven't seen a picture of me I am like MrsJim - I don't carry much weight on my upper body or stomach - just my hips and thighs pretty much.) Thunder: Nice to see you! Susan: Did you sort out your glutamine issue? Well I have a clean day of eating ahead and a run tonight! I am still motivated to get these last bits of fat OFF my body forever! I want to see my THIGH muscles! I am four weeks away from my one year anniversary of my new life and I want to look great for it! (It's also my birthday that day and my wedding anniversary the week after) Stay strong everyone! I need you! JC :tired: |
Hey Mox - I feel your pain - believe me. I just had a whole week like that - so don't feel like you are the lone wolf. I am absolutely sure that it all comes down to planning. I spent the day focusing on planning/preparing my meals and it was actually easy. I just have my last meal to eat and I'm done - a squeaky clean day with workouts. Haven't had one of those in a while. I think listening/watching the 9/11 programs were a real motivator for me. The more I heard/saw the more focused I kept myself offering it up for all of those people who lost their lives and the families they leave behind.

Sorry wasn't finished - but somehow I posted it! Was just going to tell Mox that I started making those homemade meal replacement bars that were posted on L&S. I know how some people feel about them but I keep a batch in the freezer and I'll pop one in my purse - just in case. They've saved me on numerous occasions! It's not the "out and caught off guard" moments that get me - it's the evenings!
Progress not Perfection!!! - although my progress has not been all that measurable lately. |
Hey MrsJim: Was just over at L&S and saw your post about BFL being high school - I would say CPB is more like Oxford than Stanford! :D ;)

Just a quick note...
Well, I was successful at staying away from the free baked goods - and there were TONS of them for most of the day. Whew!
I agree with JC here - none of us are perfect. What I've found though, is it is absolutely essential to put that four-letter word into play - that's right PLAN. PLAN PLAN PLAN. The days I do the best is when I take 10-15 minutes the night before and PLAN out my meals - (actually Pam includes a grocery list with her weekly menus - makes it TONS easier) - and my workouts - how much I'm going to lift, whether I'm doing MAS or HIIT cardio, etc. The first thing I say to myself upon waking up in the morning is that I AM GOING TO STICK TO MY PLAN. (Having a whole lotta fitness mags in the bathroom reading basket doesn't hurt either! ) Ya know, I see a lot of people at work who are trying to lose weight. Some of them come up to me and ask me how I am doing it...I have the BFL book right here at work and have loaned it to some people...but for the most part, when they find out that I actually have to exercise and eat right - well...I guess that losing the weight just isn't all that important to them. Or they feel they don't need a plan, they'll just have a SlimFast for lunch and not eat breakfast...just like they've been doing for years...and then pig out big time in the evening (I know this because I've been there). Of course, that doesn't work. I am a firm believer that if you want to achieve anything worthwhile, you must have a map - a plan - to achieve those goals. Whether it's BFL, Camp Pam B, GetLean, whatever...you need to find something that works for you and STICK TO IT. If you don't have a definite, clear PLAN OF ACTION, inverably you will end up drifting around like a boat without a rudder. Well, that's today's lecture, class! Mox - FAIL FAST, learn from your mistakes and move on! If you dwell on your errors, rather than learning from them, you will get yourself in a rut...and be miserable. I HIGHLY recommend journaling (i.e. keeping a diary). You have NO IDEA unless you've done it how incredibly helpful it is to put your thoughts in writing! Journaling is definitely cathartic! Oops, just checked the clock...gotta run! Bye! |
Ya I have to agree - planning can make the difference between success and failure. If you need any ideas on planning then give me a yell because I am the planning Queen! All my friends think that I am sick with the extent to which I plan my life.......

Karen: There is a post on L&S about CPB in Australia by Jaylizbet. She is a close friend of mine! She has been struggling with BFL for a while now and personally I don't think that she is quite ready for CPB yet. I knew that she was upset because she hadn't lost any weight yet and she knows about me doing CPB, but I had no idea she wanted to order Pam's diet! Wow!
Since I don't post at L&S anymore - could you sneek in a good luck wish for me! Thanks mate. JC |
I second what MrsJim said about none of us being perfect but I also do believe that planning IS the difference between success and failure.
I second what JEC said about planning. I think that everyone on here knows I cook up my food in one day for the week and store it in the ziplock food storage thingys (The cheap ones). I cook up six days of breakfast (that I just leave in one big pyrex baking dish, six days of lunch and six days of dinner. I have 2 MRPS in addition to those 3 "regular" meals. I keep a few things around the house like yams and what have you in case I get ambitious during the week. I also swap some chicken and fruit for one of my meals now and again. I can ONLY stay on plan doing things this way. Maybe other people can do it without it, but I can't. I don't have to think about it. I cook all my meals at the same time (I block out about a 3 hour time period every Sunday to COOK MY FOOD!!!). Hubby says that if I give him one of my containers of chicken and rice, he will help me clean up so I usually throw him some meals. :) I can't emphasize ENOUGH how much this helps me stay on course. I eat the same thing every day and it's just so comforting rather than boring. I like it. |
Low carbs days!
I have yelled at everyone I've seen today, including some real spicy language directed at the traffic jam on my way to the gym! I know this is working, and I'm not really hungry, just po'ed at the world on these low carb days. And yup, JC, I'm cold too!
Also, can't lift the same weight I was 2 weeks ago. Got "stuck" in the leg press- absolutely couldn't budge it and there I was like a pinned fly with my knees up near my ears :o Had to yell for one of the trainers to rescue me. Mox- Live and learn, we've all been there; just pick yourself up, keep some emergency rations around, and tomorrow's another day. Ran out of cliches here. I actually had 2 success stories w/ pointing people to BFL. 1 was my brother, who wasn't overweight, but was getting upset at what had happened to his body between finishing school, starting a dot.com, getting married, just generally growing up. I knew he'd cleaned up his eating a lot after he saw me after 3 months of sugarbusters, so when I went to visit him last April, I brought and left my BFL book. He sent me pics yesterday- he's finished 2 challenges and didn't even tell me! My mom sent me a note thanking me for what I'd done for him. Now I just have to work on my fat, scotch-guzzling brother. The other one, in the Air Force, looks like a pilot recruiting poster! My other success is the massage therapist who works at my gym. She's an ex-marathoner who couldn't figure out how to get rid of the weight she gained when she stopped running 100 miles/week! She is in week 9 and looks so good and happy! It made me really happy today to here these stories since generally it was such a sad day, and I had so many temper-tantrums that I shouldn't have. OK- that was long winded. Sorry. Anybody else finding they are not as strong on Pam's diet? I never wanted to be a power lifter, but getting stuck is a tad embarrassing! mel |
JEC: I am using up my regular glutamine but will be getting some in powder form to take 5k. I didn't know I should be using that much.
Today I was sad and homesick (of course) but stayed on course and did my power cardio workout. (power cardio is 2 sessions about an hour apart--one HIIT for 10 minutes and then a MAS for 20) Several times I wanted to QUIT (especially HIIT) but I stayed the course!!! I hate cardio and am still plagued by shin splints but I kept at it and hit 10s both times. Eating all good things!!! Tomorrow I hit the weights HARD. I am feeling STRONG!!!! :strong: I know I am losing inches but it's not that obvious yet to anyone else, but I feel MUCH MUCH BETTER. CAMP 3FC RULZ!!! |
