Bowflex?
Hi, I have the chance to get a Bowflex tonight and I was wondering if anyone here has one uses it and likes it? I don't want to be muscle bound but would like to be stronger right now I walk and do my Wii fit plus 30 min a day.I am thinking this Bowflex might be a good add on. what do you think?
Thanks Cindy |
I dont own the Bowflex but I absolutely think it is a great idea! I do weight training 3-4 times a week, which in reality, 2 times a week would be more than adequate but anyway, I dont get bulky. In fact, my trainer told me, it is virtually impossible for a woman to get "big and muscular" unless they are training 24/7, taking steroids or consuming an ungodly amount of protein heavy foods. I can do about 30-50 pounds with upper body and up to 110 lower body and have tons of definition but am not muscle bound. Further more, incorporating weights into your routine helps speed up your metabolism. Go for it! Good luck!

I have a Weider Max home gym, which is very similar to a Bowflex. I enjoyed it at first, but found that I have outgrown it. Of course, I used it for almost a year before getting to that point. :) I get frustrated now having to change the resistance bars in and out, and the pulleys aren't very well aligned. From what I've read the Bowflex is designed a little better. I say go for it!

As long as you will use it and it won't end up being a drying rack for your clothes, I say go for it, especially if it's for a good price.
|
I will not go to a gym so I thought it might help.
|
It will absolutely help! I used my Weider several times a week, and really, if you are more patient than me you might not outgrow it as fast as I did. :dizzy: I tend to use more dumbbells now, and actually just upgraded to a home gym system with a squat rack.
Which Bowflex are you looking at? I have a couple of friends who have them who absolutely love them. |
its this one. http://www.exerciseequipmentexpert.c...lex-blaze.html

I trained someone on a Bowflex, it's good for a beginner weight trainer and for someone, like you, who won't go to a gym... If you have the room for a Bowflex you may have some extra room for some weights, mats, balls, resistance bands, etc... Along with your imagination, the Bowflex and all those gym toys you will get a great workout...
If the price is right, go for it... :D |
The Blaze is a good piece of equipment. Like Ilene said, augment it with a couple of mats, balls and a few dumbbells if you have the room and you will get even more out of it.
Good luck! |
Yeah my personal recommendation would be to skip the bowflex and work on collecting other things for a home gym, various dumbbells, a ball, a mat, etc.
I think machine type exercises are good for a beginning but free weights are much better and if I had a chance to go back to when I mostly used machines (in the gym), I would've chosen to start with free weights. |
I have a weider home gym too, my second weight machine, and ditto what Nelie said. There are some great exercises you can get on a machine that are harder to replicate with freeweights, like a lat pull down (pulling the bar down from above your head) and some cable exercises, but for the same amount of $$, you could potentially get some adj dumbbells (Target or a sports box store) and the BFL book and be further along in 12 weeks that with the machine.

I'm using the Bowflex monday wednesday and fridays and doing the Wii fitness plus on tueday's and thursdays the only thing is I'm soar today so I guess it will just take time.I haven't felt my ab's this soar in years and I'm only doing the 5 excersizes that they reccomend and it takes about 20 minutes. I plan on getting a treadmill next I'm turning a spare room into my own personal gym:D
