Could you change the title of the forum to "Body for Life/Bodybuilding"?

So many of us folks here have moved on and are doing other BB programs - although we still hold fast to the basic BFL philosophy!

Thanks!

MrsJim 06-17-2002 07:47 PM

Oooh. Thanks Suzanne!!! :) You rock!

Hey y'all, I just posted a pic to the Playspace at L&S from when I was in Vegas for Dad's b-day...check it out (i'm going to try and attach it here as well)

Gotta run - almost time for work to let out...

Suzanne 3FC 06-18-2002 04:50 AM

WOW! You look fabulous!

3fcuser1058250 06-18-2002 07:06 AM

Wow.

Very Cool MrsJim....you look awesome...!! May I ask how old you are?

Just a question for anyone on BFL, how many calories approximately do you eat, I know we shouldn't count calories but I'm just curious....

Training, cardio and food have been going very well, I have no complaints....or problems I find the program very easy to follow... (maybe I'm dong something wrong?? :o

See you all later....Have a great day....

Hiya Shonda!

Shonda, I'm going to give BRx another go -- are you doing BfL again?

QuadZilla 06-18-2002 12:19 PM

Karen!

You look terrific, chick!

Lana, when I was doing BfL BTB (By The Book) I was getting about 1,800 calories per day. That's pretty low from a bodybuilding perspective *SHRUG

MrsJim 06-18-2002 12:27 PM

Hey, thanks you guys!

Lanaii - I'm actually gonna be 40 this November... (my sister says I'm aging gracefully because I don't have kids!).

QZ - I just noticed your posts...thanks so much dude! Can't wait to meetcha in a couple weeks or so (time is flying so quickly...)

Just an aside about calories. If you're doing BFL, you DON'T need to worry about them as it's assumed that you are eating clean (authorized foods) 6 days a week and measuring palm/fist - your calories will NATURALLY be at the right level for you in that case. If you MUST count anything, count grams - protein and carbs. I subscribe to the basic tenent of 1 gram of protein and carbs (don't count the carb grams in veggies, however!) per pound of bodyweight. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should get 150 grams per day of protein. Divided by 6, that's 25 grams of protein and carbs per meal. Don't stress over calories! It will only make you nuts :dizzy:

Back to the old grind - more later everyone!

Tuesday leg day

MrsJim- You look MAHVELOUS, Dawling!!! No wonder you were the belle of the ball!

Lana- I vary between 1400-1650 cals/day. I'm 5'3" and 135 lbs and doing more lifting and cardio than straight BFL, but BFL nutrition, very strict. I am also NOT losing any fat. ??????? My current excuse is hormonal.

I used the entire stack on the donkey calf machine yesterday in an effort to GROW these puny calves. I obviously wasn't hitting 10's before, tho with the volumn I was doing I thought I was. Can barely walk today, and it's quad and ham day. This should be interesting....

Hi -- hope you all don't mind if a non-BFLer jumps in ... You don't know me but I feel like I know all of you. I began my weight loss journey last June 1 and the closest I could find on the Net to what I was doing was BFL, so I spent a lot of time reading here and at L & S. Face it, there's not a lot of support our there for 47 year old moms who love to lift weights! I never felt comfortable enough to post either here or at L & S, however, because I break some of the BFL rules and didn't want to get slammed. But now that the title of the thread also includes "bodybuilding", I'll take a deep breath and plunge in.

About me -- I've lost 124 pounds in a year doing pretty much what all of you do, with some modifications (gone from 257 pounds to 133, 57% bodyfat to 14%). I do weights five days a week and cardio for an hour seven days a week. I don't do free days -- but have had five or six free meals in the year. I've taken fat burners on three separate occasions for about six weeks each time, with no bad effects and no fat rebound when I went off. I eat about a 50 (protein) - 30 (carb) - 20 (fat) ratio and (biggest sin!) I weigh myself every day. I do track calories and grams on Fitday. Right now I'm eating five meals a day totalling around 1200 calories, with about 150g of protein and 130g of carbs and 20 - 30g of fat (very roughly). That has varied and I've also done several two-week cycles of very low carbs.

One of the reasons I was inspired to post is because of Mel and her frustration over not losing fat. I know that the guys at L & S said to eat MORE but, hey, they're guys. I think that as someone my age, you might need to cut the calories. Even at the weight and bodyfat I am, I am still losing with 1200 calories, though slowly. I have a personal goal of 128.5, which is half of what I weighed last year. Silly, but I'd like to see it. After that, who knows?

I sincerely hope that I haven't stepped on any toes since I've never done BFL (although I think it might be a little easier than my current program!) but I would love to have a place to discuss eating and training issues with other women.

QuadZilla 06-18-2002 01:34 PM

Meg *hithere

Hiya Meg! Don't you fret about stepping on toes -- I think our are pretty tough from dropping weights on 'em!

My wife does extra cardio. I don't do BfL really at all anymore. Don't ever be afraid to post about what is or isn't working for you -- Karen (here) and I (at L&S) will have your back!

Meg 06-18-2002 01:47 PM

QZ -- thanks for your reply! But I can't imagine posting on L & S -- there are some very outspoken people there who oppose some of what has worked for me (which is why I posted it up front), namely: weighing myself DAILY!, only eating 1200 calories (that's a topic today), daily cardio (and for an hour!) (hey, I've put on muscle despite losing 124 pounds), using fat-burners, counting calories, going low-carb, not eating before bed etc. But I must tell you that for a year your site has been a God-send to me and undoubtedly played a big part in my success. I've tried to repay you in some small part through my netrition purchases, but please know that there are probably other anonymous folks like me out there who you help more than you'll ever know.

Focus

Meg, check the Focus Boards -- they're much more forgiving than the main board. And of course this place is terrific!! :-D :-D

Mel 06-18-2002 02:57 PM

Hi Meg!

Thanks for coming out of the woodwork- even if it was my fat that caused you to de-lurk! It sounds like you've had tremendous success! You're right- there are some things I wouldn't post on l&s either (cover your eyes Karen and Quadzilla) but I weigh daily except when I ask my husband to hide the scale to avoid morning tantrums and depression. I'm also at the tail end of 47, and battling dropping hormones and rising bodyfat, no matter what I eat, lift, run, climb. It's very frustrating. Getting posts back from 34 year old guys telling me to double my carbs because that worked for them is baffling. I would love it if you went into more detail on what you do- or private message me, if you think this is not the place. I'm at the end of C2 tho I had previously lost 40 pounds before starting BFL with a combo of Sugarbusters, lots of lifting and cardio. I thought I'd try BFL because it actually seemed easier than what I was doing. Now I do my own lifting split, just added more cardio, but stick to the BFL nutrition.
Well, I've rattled on enough- you probably knew all this from reading the posts.

Hi again.....

Thanks for the reply to my question, I have things a bit more into perspective now in regards to the eating side if BFL...

I do love the weight training part of it too, it feels good to do something different with my muscles because I really feel like I have been going nowhere in the last couple of years...

Mel, Meg, and MrsJim we're all in the same age group I'm 45... and certainly don't feel it... and I am shocked when I see girls that I went to school with and they look 60... I always make a point to tell my kids that, they are 14 and 12 (I started late in the kid dept.) because I'm hoping they will see that I look and feel young, because I am one of the older parents in their class, the other moms are much younger...

Mel, aren't dropping hormones fun?!?!?!

Well thanks again, and I must go to bed it's 10PM and 5AM arrives pretty quickly...

Lana....
