Turbulence Training?

  • So what's the latest thinking on the Turbulence Training program? Skwigg is praising it in her blog this week. Is it far better than something like the BFL program, or is it a version of your typical cardio/w-l mix? She seems to indicate it being the best thing since flat abs -
  • Craig Ballantyne has multiple programs under the Turbulence training name so I don't know if you or Skwigg are talking about a particular program or Craigs overall "philosophy".

    Is it better than BFL. Depends upon your goals and preferences. Basically, from what I have read and seen from him, he is a proponent of compound movements, full body or upper/lower splits, and a big proponent of interval training. He also does not restrict cardio training to the most common methods but will use such things as kettlebell swings, tabata squats, etc.

  • I've been googling and reading his longwinded ad site for the last half hour. From what I gather, the programs is based on the good old six CLEAN meals per day nutrition, short, high intensity interval cardio, and circuit training with a lot of plyometrics and core work thrown in.

    I'd be interested in reading it, but I enjoy the time I spend in the gym, and I do see results- so I'm not willing to spend $40.00.

    I have read quite a few of his articles and what he writes always makes sense. I've incorporated some parts of his workouts that have been published in Men's Health and Oxygen, but personally I really dislike following someone else's workouts more than once. Just my preference, and I have plenty of experience putting together workouts that work.

    I refuse to buy a book that includes the phrase "blowtorch body fat" in its title. First, I'm not an adolescent boy, so the metaphor does nothing for me. More importantly, blowtorch IS NOT A VERB!

  • kaw- Skwigg is a fitness blogger- highly entertaining, kind of nutty.... she's a fun read. But I take most of what she says with a boulder of salt.
  • I subscribed to his email list last night and have received THREE emails overnight trying to sell the program. Included are link for how to become an affiliate and make some $$ everytime anyone clicks the link on your site or blog. Take that with a grain of salt.

    The program may be great- but it's a hard sell.

    The image of "blowtorching fat" is hilarious. Kaw, using a noun as a verb puts my teeth on edge, too.

    ok, NOW, I get it. ick Glad I didn't bookmark Skwigg. Thanks for doing the detective work, Mel. I most certainly wasn't going to buy it, but maybe would library it.
  • I've been reading too, and am not ready to plunk down $40 yet. Skwigg had an announcement of a 12-week TT challenge, a la BFL. I do like the CB's overall approach though. I'm thinking of doing my own 12 week challenge, which would take me up to mid-February. My sister is coming to visit then, and we leave on vacation the first week of March so the timing is perfect.

    Hmmm, left this open while I attended a 3 hour meeting. Guess I'd better just post it and move on....
