Talking Tried deadlifts for the first time today...and...

They freaking rocked!!! I literally felt so many parts of my body working: glutes, hamstrings, quads, lower back, abs. I think I'm hooked.

Many people consider deadlifts to be the king of exercises. Good for you! You're becoming quite the weightlifter!!

What are deadlifts? I've never heard of them before but they sound great.

Try this one instead: Deadlifts. I promise you wouldn't kill yourself if you give them a try!

Oh, now I'm confused I came to say that I also love deadlifts but then I looked at the link and that's not what I've been doing!

After some searching, maybe I've been doing Straight Back Deadlifts http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...gDeadlift.html or Romanian Deadlifts http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...nDeadlift.html(not sure of the difference).

Now I want to try those too. The one Meg linked to looks like a combination of a squat and what I've been calling a deadlift. Whatever you want to call what I've been doing, I learned in my Power Class and I used to think they were sort of a waste of time but not anymore!

Thanks, Meg!

Yea Phyllis, I tried the barbell deadlifts. They seem so simple, to me at least, which they kind of are, but they work so many different muscles. They're awesome!

Meg, I thought we had decided that deadlifts are the Crown Prince of exercises?

Deadlifts are great, in both their stiff-legged and regular varieties. The stiff-legged ones put more emphasis on the lower back while the regular, Crown Prince variety rely a little extra on the glutes. (And there's nothing like a nice bum My bf has been commenting on mine recently. I think the CP deadlifts are actually doing something visible to the world!)

Hooray for weights! And good for you, Kim, trying something new!

I've been doing Romanian deadlifts and they're my favorite! The ones in the video above look like a squat/lift all in one! I'll have to ask the coach guy at the gym about those!

Congrats for trying out the deadlifin', Kim_Renee! It's currently my favorite exercise, too!

Baff, it's those in-bred royal families -- makes it so hard to figure out who's related to who.

Romanian deadlifts (or stiff-legged or straight-backed) are a great hamstring exercise. But deadlifts like Kim posted about are a true compound exercise that - like she felt - work almost every muscle in your body.
