Pat – Congratulations on the half! I only walked that far once to get into a music festival after the grounds were flooded and they started turning people away. I don’t know that I’d ever do it again voluntarily. Well, at least not carrying camping gear. My legs were really hurtin’ after that walk!
Sugar Cube – Another CAP reader. Yeah, I love her she’s so funny and an awesome writer. I actually met her a couple times at the WeHo SnB. She’s so sweet, I love her accent. Mel – Sorry you are having such issues with pain. I know how frustrating it was when I injured my shoulder and I couldn’t lift for weeks. We hired movers for a couple hours to do most of our heavy furniture, I wasn’t going to attempt to get that sleeper sofa down those stairs and in a truck, someone would’ve gotten smooshed. Plus we had to get our bed up to the second floor through the window, the stairway was too narrow and had too many turns. Everything else we packed up and moved ourselves in our cars. We’re mostly unpacked now. Sadly, our beer fest tickets have gone missing. Hopefully they’ll turn up. It’s sooooo hot and sticky here, even if I get up early enough so it’s still cool outside it’s so humid I feel clammy the second I exert myself. Guess I could do some cardio kickboxing or something in the basement. Eating has been better, scale is recovering from the weekend. I think I’ll update my ticker the end of this week. |
 Morning!
It's cool and cloudy here - good for the folks fighting forest fires, not so nice for the rest of us. :) We had some rain Sunday and early early Monday morning, but essentially we're still verrry dry. On a happier note, we harvested lettuce and spinach from our garden last night - yum! Shan - I hear you on the sore legs. On Sat I couldn't move after sitting for any length of time, Sunday was better and yesterday they just felt like I'd done a really hard legs workout (oh - I guess I had! ) Today they're pretty good, and I think tomorrow I can do a normal LBWO. Surprisingly, the sorest parts are two toes  One has a small blister, and another has a sore toenail. I was careful to cut them a couple days before, as I have had toenail issues before - not fun! Rabbit - hope you're doing better. Congrats on getting in your exercise. I'm going to be riding my bike more nowadays, though my DH keeps taking off on it.... Mel, sorry to hear you're suffering. Maybe a few days rest from workouts - without going crazy with food? :) |
A question before I forget - I have a new recipe for Lentil salad, but it also has gabanzo beans, can I switch them out for white bean or something, just don't like GBs unless they are in Red Pepper humus for some reason.
Well, I have another goal, I have scheduled an annual check up with the doc, last one was in 2004, not too bad for the "annual". Anyway, I would love to be able to lose some pounds before that appointment. It is probably why I haven't gone, I am the same weight - no progress - and I guess with my thinking if I don't go to the doctors, then it doesn't exist. Did the reservoir this morning and started doing some intervals, back to where I started at one minute job/runs with 5 min recoveries. But it is a start. I did cut 8 minutes off of my time around the reservoir so at least I am putting out the effort. MEL - Stalking a moose, oh my. "Something" is better than "nothing", maybe you can work on "something" to click you onto the more than "nothing", and get to the "all". Had Cobb Salad for lunch, great treat and really limited the dressing, I loved the greens. And I have been walking out in the 90+ degrees we are having here in Boston. Have to get ready for my summer intern. This should be good, last one I took on was about 10 years ago, too much work for what we got out of her. This year for some reason I signed up again, probably the pain of the last one has lessened. In any case, just waiting to see what the clothing is. That is the worse part, we are not at all dressy but we do expect the shirt to meet the bottoms. SHAN - do you also knit? or just like the blog? Wonder if you are getting a message through the missing beer feast tickets from a higher power??? Food shopping after work, I have to get almost everything, but I have simplified my food plan for the summer, so I am sticking to fruits and veggies, Farmer's market is getting better and my garden is starting to produce, so overall, I am motivated to make good choices. I do have mango on the kitchen counter that needs to be used tonight, so I may make a mango salsa and get some fish on the way home to grill. Off to do some stretching, my legs are sore too. |
I can knit, but I haven’t made anything in a while. Mostly because I’m pretty limited, I haven’t really progressed beyond the scarf and I have more than enough scarves. I’ve also made a few crochet hats. Knitting in the round still eludes me though. Those DPNs are just scary.
I don’t know if it was a higher power or what but something just told me to more thoroughly search my work bag for the tickets, and lo and behold! I also found my iPod and headphones. I love finding stuff after I lose it. Almost makes it worth the trouble of looking everywhere. I bet you could use any bean you like in that salad. Edamame are great in cold salads. I like butter beans cold too. |
Hello all,
A hot, hot summer has turned me into an introvert but I just have to climb out of my shell to say howdy. Lydia, I tried the circuit that you posted on the other thread oooooo weee it was a pretty good workout for my slacker self. I have been slacking with the weights a bit since I have about doubled my running mileage. Still I am trying to hit all the muscle groups twice a week. Thats about all I can manage until I slow down on my runs. Nellie, I am jealous on the long hikes. Hard to get those in with a young un. Really its why I took up running. Easier to fit into my busy schedule. Well I am not really busy but I always feel like I am running around. Yesterday I had to call poison control because my daughter found the 1st aid kit and thought the hydrocortizone cream was toothpaste  Then today she opened up the fireplace and scattered ashes everywhere. I mean I watch her....constantly. It only takes about 30 seconds. My son was not so...hands on, experimental or whatever. Geeze I thought she would be easier since she is clearly more mellow. Think again. Oh well. I suppose running arund after a 2 year old does burn some calories and at least it keeps me out of the fridge. Hope you are all enjoying your summer. I have so few brain cells left I wish I could respond to more people individually. I was just on the phone with a government agency and I literally said "bye, love you" I am so used to taking to dh or my mom it is kind of a programmed response. But I think its mostly that I am VERY tired. C'est la vie. |
More HIIT training today since tomorrow morning the weather may be bad. I need to get in the morning when I can. I am doing pretty well with the food now that I have been to the store, and have started to cut my portions, that is my real problem, portion control.
It is so hot here, over 90 and that is just too much. My legs are sore but I am taking frequent walks and drinking lots of water. Absolutely boring day at the office and I can't say I have gotten anything done. I have to remember that I have a site visit at 3:30, and not just take off. LOL. SHAN - Glad you found the tickets, and the iPod. Love the edamane idea, that will work. HC - yuck, amazing DD even wanted to taste the stuff. Sounds like my sister and now my neice, the world is just out there for them. I hope you can get some sleep. Hi to everyone, hope you are having great summer weather. |
Morning! It's a gorgeous perfect summer day here. Why am I working???? Oh, right, it's that paycheck thing.
My legs are back to feeling normal today, so I'll do a LBWO and get back into my routine again. Once I wrest my bike back from my DH I'll be riding that for some of my cardio. He's recovering from tendonitis in his knee and until he can run again, he's biking, but he doesn't have his own bike. HC - those 2 year olds can certainly move fast when they get it in their mind! I have to laugh at how fast some of them here in the library get away from their parents - sometimes both parents! Liza - understand it's been pretty warm in Boston! Good for you getting out in the mornings. My cat gets me up usually around 5:30 and I'd really like to conquer that "go back to bed immediately" part of my brain. I could easily get in 45 min of cardio and still have lots of time to get ready for work. Speaking of which, I need to leave for a meeting. |
Ooooh I love edamame!
BTW congrats to the newly homed. So exiting to get a house! OK today's adventure was cleaning my son's closet. I hear my daughter "this is really dangerous" I turn around and she is pulling push pins out of their little home. So not too bad. But you gotta love it when a kid is saying "this is really dangerous." I can't wait til judgement catches up with her vocabulary. Waist is down to 30" 29" if I cheat and pull snugly. And I am starting to see quads! |
Hi Everyone, I'm Jenni, I'm new here. I am checking out the Body for Life for women and plan to start lifting weights and adding more cardio on Sunday or Monday! Has any one around here had good success if they're very large like me? Looking forward to getting healthy!!
|
Hi Jenni  BFL for W would be a great plan for you- like any other, it's based on eating a nutritious portion controlled diet and getting more exercise. No matter what the name of the plan, eat less (and more healthy) and move more always works :) Also, I'd really suggest that you take your email address out of your post (use the "edit" button). You'll find that you get a lot of spam or weirdos if you leave it in. I may take it out for you in a few days if you haven't. Memebers can send private messages to each other that show up as notifications in your email that you have a private message on 3FC. It's a lot safer to comunicate that way rather than posting your email address for the world and all the spam crawlers.
 Quote:
Hickerchick, I'm still waiting for that! Both for my kids who are almost 17 and almost 25 and myself. Most of you know how old I am. Think dirt. I'm doing cardio only this week until Saturday when I'll repeat the leg workout circuit that near killed me last week :) My upper body really needs some rest and just the cross-trainer arms are enough to make everything complain. Today I was totally on plan eating wise. I'm going to bed before I blow it! g'nite! Mel |
Hi.
I've been doing BFL for Women for 3 weeks now. Not yet perfect with the eating, but doing the weights and cardio every day. I've lost 5lb., but haven't re-checked my measurements yet. I can't quite tell how many of the sit-ups I'm supposed to be doing--can anyone clue me in? Thanks! cuppa |
That's always a mystery, those sit-ups! I do 30 in one set. That seems to exhaust the abs. Then I do another variation of situps (like bicycles or a different reverse crunch or something) and crank out another 30, then I'm done.
|
Thanks Mel! I took your advice and removed my email signature.
I picked up the BFL for Women book last night and am reading it this week. Can't wait to be stronger, and I know it will be a slow journey. I'm very hopeful, because when I was using weights at the gym for a few weeks, I could actually start to see a bicep under the fat! Yay! |
PAT - I am paying today for the back to back HIIT around the reservoir, glad to know recovery is possible. LOL. Couldn't workout this morning but have an UBWO for tonight and then some yoga, but only after DD and I sew up a book pouch, she wants something to carry her book around with her conveniently, how can you deny a kid that? Sounds like DH needs his own wheels, with bells and whistles.
HIKER - Got to love those muscles, and a 29" waist, lovely. JENNI - Moving in the right direction - out of the chair and all around - is a great start. Like Mel says, eat less, make better food choices and move around more than you are now. It is a complete package. And keep track of your successes, I have star stickers on my bedroom calendar (I use the one from Oxygen magazine) for every day I work out. Whatever will motivate you to make good choices should become your guide. MEL - Love the whole "going to bed before I blow it!" I can always use more sleep or at least reading time. CUPPA - BFL/EFL isn't about perfection but about doing better. Ab work is sort of the same, good form until exhaustion. Like HR, I do 5 sets of different ab work, and of course my yoga seems to have more. I figure when I lose this fat over my abs, my abs are going to be killers. We are supposed to be getting better weather soon, this weekend will be getting DD ready for camp, and either we lost her shorts or she outgrew them or something because this child is wearing all her skorts from school right now. Well, there must another box in the basement, glad I have some developing upper body strength to go and explore. |
 Good morning, er, well it's nearly noon here, but oh so :sunny: today! I love it. :)
Had a follow-up visit with the ortho for my knees. The PT and I have agreed that my left one is doing well and should continue okay as long as I follow his recommendations. The right one, however, grrrrrr. So this morning he took x-rays and at least I'm right - the dang kneecap has drifted out of it's "groove" and is tilted besides. In one view you can even see that the femur is rubbing on the underside of the patella. No wonder it hurts! So I'm up for a few more weeks of PT and probably a brace to try to persuade it to move back where it belongs. Also he sees a moderate amount of arthritic damage and wants me to consider the synvisc injections, but not until we see how much pain I still have once the patella issue is resolved. so only minimal squats for the time being, though I have lots of other leg and hip exercises to occupy my time. |
