Elisa:You ran to work?! Very cool. I think that if you come in to work in your running gear after running 7km you deserve to run a blender at your desk! No explanation needed. :high:

Mel 06-23-2007 01:35 PM

Wow- Elisa, running to work is very brave! Not sure I'd attempt that :p

I just finished the leg workout from :censored:. I do legs with one of my longtime clients- at first I felt bad about doing it but she seems to enjoy it more and I'm pretty inventive because I want a good workout! I went back to an old issue of Oxygen and found Monica Brandt's leg circuit. We did that. Wow- I'm fried! 10 exercises broken into 3 tri-sets, 15 rep sets no rest! We did each tri-set 3 times instead of our usual four, but there was plenty of volume in that workout! Unfortunately, I had one more client to train after that and she had a pretty stinky trainer :lol3:

Then I came home and ate way too much because I didn't take enough for post-workout. I won't try that again with only a 130 calorie protein shake post-workout!

Think I'll go collapse for a while....

Mel/Lydia - Thanks for all the kind words about my running to work! Really, it wasn't too bad. As I said, just under 7k with a couple of walking breaks. I'm fairly sure it won't be a regular thing but once in a while it's a good way to start the day! I'm not convinced that I love to run but I love the way it feels and the sense of accomplishment so I'll keep it up...for now! ;)

Today...oh, too much food. We went to this diner that I haven't been to in years (it's a couple of hours away..we were going to see a show nearby) so I totally splurged. I won't share the details since I know not everyone wants to hear but it was a huge meal. Oh well...back on track tomorrow! :o

I bought some light Laughing Cow cheese today. I didn't think I'd like it but I really did and it seems like a good snack or part of my lunch. Thanks to people here I also discovered my love for protein pancakes! This brings me to my question:

What's one or two of your favourite healthy snacks/meals. I don't just mean chicken breast, maybe something a bit different or a favourite recipe.

I love chickpeas and I heard people talking about roasting them for a snack. I think I'll try that this week but I'd love to hear of more!

Hi LWL,

Back on track! Thursday & friday were bad...DD had a sleep in party to celebrate het BD in advance & to celebrate the start of summer holidays. What can I say ? I had a very tiring day on wednesday, teaching class for a full day, then I took thursday off work to prepare for the party so no biking to work & on friday also no yoga & no power class. plus I ate too much & drank too much on those days. Yeaterday was good excercise wise: ran outside for 25 mins, did a FBWO & stretched for a total of 1.5 hours. Then today I did 40 mins elliptical & 1 h yoga DVD.

So I got in my weekly allotment of exercise, however, foodwise the situation is still not OK. Sweet stuff stays my downfall. Strange, because I have had yearsl of NOT wanting the sweet stuff, and now I have upped exercise I really get cravings. I'll try the 20 mins wait & drink a tumbler of water approach the next time & see how that works out.

Have a great day all,
rabbit

Hi all :)

I went hiking yesterday (6 miles) and I realized I missed hiking a lot. I'm a little sore this morning but not too bad. DH may do a short hike today depending on how he feels plus I have things I need to do. Its also going to be a bit hotter than yesterday.

I was also talking to DH about plans to move and I told him I was thinking of having the elliptical moved the week after the rest of the furniture. We are going to have the exercise equipment place we bought it at move it for us. He looked at me and told me that he wasn't sure I was allowed to be without my elliptical for a week. I told him that we will take the weights with us and we'll have walking paths to explore. He thinks I'm already planning to get out of exercising :) Plus I know we'll be busy that week anyway.

Happy Monday! Ineed lots of :coffee: today.

I'm still dragging from Saturday's workout and food. YUK. But I got up and did my 45 minutes on the elliptical early this morning and will lift at lunch.

While I was booking a client on Saturday for next week, I realized that I've been totally mixed up about what week it is and missad a doctors appt. that I thought I had tomorrow morning. I already cleared taking the time off tomorrow! I feel like a omplete idiot. He (the doc) is a training client at my gym and I even saw and talked to him the day that I was supposed to be there. He never said a thing about it. I'm going to be mortified to call in and explain that I'm just so lame brained and mixed up that I didn't even know what week it is despite writing and typing the date about a hundred times a day :(

Nelie- funny that dh thought you were trying to give up exercise! You are melting!

outta here,
Mel

Hi all –

Got the last of the box lifting workouts out of the way this weekend. Everything is out of the old apartment and in the new place. Our most promising rental prospects just dropped out because of location/transportation issues. We would really like to get someone in there by the end of July.

I dug up my scale last week and it was looking good, but things got a little out of control with the bowling on Fri night, baseball game on Sat night and moving and not really having time to cook. There might have been a little beer involved. Also maybe something deep fried, I won’t go into the details. I’ll give it a few days to even out, but I think I might be at least down to that 5 lb lost mark.

nelie – That is too funny about your DH thinking you were trying to get out of exercising. Unfortunately with moving I didn’t have to try, I just slacked off naturally. I bet with all that walking and hiking you won’t miss your elliptical for just one week.

Back to clean eats, at least some running and pilates this week.

nelie 06-25-2007 01:04 PM

DH and I started packing last night :) We went on a short walk last night (2 miles or so) instead of another hike. Our legs were a bit sore from the hike which we really felt once we started walking.

I am trying to talk DH into taking some vacation days around our closing date. Then we could have my elliptical moved earlier than I was planning to have it moved.

I am heading to California for over a week on Thursday. There will be lots of good food, some walking but not a lot and lots of family time. My goal is to not gain weight :) I would think about taking my gym clothes but I don't think I'd have the chance but who knows.

SHAN - I hear you on the wedding pictures, we interviewed someone who was going to "personalize" our pictures. This totally scared me. We ened up at the local University, hiring one of the photography professors, he was putting a kid through college and did the work for the extra money. We paid him $500 for his time, church and reception (no pictures of me getting dressed or stuff like that) and the film, as we own the pictures. He dropped them off for processing and we picked up the contact sheets and worked with that for ordering what we wanted. We did most in black and white and I LOVE them. ps, the original guy said he would take all color pictures and then remove the color to make B&W???. good luck.

Great workout this morning, to make up for the slack weekend. I did some total workout using a Gilad recording. The 2007 series is really focused on form, clearly explaining what and where and how. Anyway, I have a ways to go on them but am more than half way through the lunges. Then an ab workout, that was good as well. On my yoga, almost have my head to my knee - straight legs and all - love feeling the flexibility increase and am working on incorporating the relaxation in the evening, that is still hit or miss.

ELISA - I should think 5 pounds is a good range, accommodates all kinds of things. as long as you stay on top of it. LOVE the whole option of jumping on the transportation during a run.

There are small blenders for travel, battery operated, I have seen them in Whole Foods, GNC and Vitamin Shoppe though have never used them. If I had one here, everyone would be using it. LOL.

Hitting the berries today, blueberries with cottage cheese, raspberries this afternoon with my yogurt and I hope to find some strawberries to snack on. I was trying to save some blueberries for breakfast tomorrow, but that doesn't seem to be happening. My never ending problem of portion control.

NELIE - very funny to be be away from the elliptical for so long. you are great. You can workout out better if you have your gear with you and it may just be the nudge you need to put them on and do something. Maybe you could schedule it.

Scale is the same, but feeling good and I did indulge in birthday cake this weekend. I get out what I put in.

nelie 06-25-2007 03:38 PM

Oh I have something funny to share...

This morning I was looking at my back in the mirror and I got very concerned about a noticeable bump in my back... The bump was a shoulder blade....

Lydia227 06-25-2007 04:04 PM

Wow it was good to be back in the gym this morning. :sunny: DS1 is in camp this week so I feel like I'm back to my routine again. I did 45 minutes of HIIT on the elliptical and 30 minutes of upper body. Legs are a little sore after my Sunday morning run not to mention my knee.I think I may have to get that checked out. I'm hoping I can coax it along till fall when I will have time for appointments. :dizzy:

Mel: Bummer about the missed appointment. It happens. :dunno: But now you also have a free day tomorrow! Enjoy.

Nelie: Have a great time visiting family in California. Too funny about the shoulder blades. :D

Fran: Nice new pics! When does your vacation start?

Pat: How did the half marathon go or do I have the wrong weekend?

shananigans 06-25-2007 04:32 PM

 nelie - glad to hear it was nothing serious. That reminded me of this post by Crazy Aunt Purl about her "arm tumor" http://www.crazyauntpurl.com/archive...purse_be_1.php.

If I ever find my abs I will probably presume I am harboring a parasite or something first.

Hi

I am back among the land of the living - and, sigh, working - after a 3.5 day weekend. We left Thurs noon and after a short stop to get a HepA 2nd shot, drove south for a 6 pm wedding. We ran into a lot of smoke from a forest fire further south, and were stopped for construction for about 20 minutes, but got to our campground by 5, changed and were at the wedding location on time. They got married at a lodge on the Kenai River (world renouned salmon fishing), on a deck at water leve. Very nice service, with vows they'd written themselves (including one by her that she'd never sell his "stuff" (bikes, fishing equip, etc) while he was out "playing") The food was incredible. The appetizers alone would have been enough: spiced shrimp, all kinds of fruit, crackers and cheeses, salmon spread, eggplant pate, but no.... There was a full dinner of BBQ'd salmon and chicken, spinach salad, broccoli salad, and rice, with desserts, lemon bars and brownies, plus of course the wedding cake! I did pretty well considering. Had no dessert, a bite of DH's cake, small amount of rice. The shrimp appetizer was so good I had to move away so I wouldn't be thought to be hogging it. The only downside of the whole evening was that the smoke got worse and we had to move indoors, and several people with asthma were really bothered.

We camped overnight in our truck (which got covered with ash) and left after eating our brought-from-home breakfast. We did stop for :coffee: of course. Back in Anchorage we did some errands, including picking up my race info and bib. There was a pasta dinner put on by Team-in-Training at 4, at which I ate only moderately, followed by team meetings (with photos!) for last minute instructions. Found out that the wife of a guy I used to work with was on the Anchorage team, and was running the full marathon.

Sat morning we were back in Anchorage by 8 am - I swear they tell you to get there an hour before race time so you have time to wait in the potty lines. It was pretty a pretty amazing time. The weather was cool and even showery at the end, so a good day for walking/running. The full marathon started elsewhere (though we all finished at the same place), but there were a ton of half marathoners. Over 3,800 people total had registered for the event. I started off about 2/3 way back, but got passed up so I ended up further back. DH was great and took photos. He even showed up at a couple of places with good viewing at the beginning. I walked continually for the whole 13.1 miles (except for 2 potty stops) but was not quite as fast as I would have liked. Still I finished and that was my goal! I did speed up quite well just after the halfway point - heard a noise, and there was a bull moose in the woods about 50' from me! Afterwards I was starving, and would have eaten anything you gave me! We had PB&J sandwiches in the finish tent for Team-in-Training, and DH and I went to grab some late lunch. I ended up having some chicken, and then a latte with a friend later on. At dinner time I was still really hungry and ended up eating some spaghetti with meatless sauce (at home).

Sorry it's all about me here. Things are busy at work - couple of my employees having medical and/or domestic crises and work schedules needing adjusting....

Sugar Cube 06-25-2007 07:18 PM

NELIE - ROFL - sort of like when I discovered my ribs again.

SHAN - You read Crazy Aunt Purl too! She is very funny and I do like her knitting.

PAT - Sounds like a great weekend except for the fire, smoke and ash.

Liza

Mel 06-25-2007 09:16 PM

Pat- Wow :faint: that sounds like an incredible weekend! Congratulations. I would have sped up quite a bit if I'd seen that moose! I once stalked one with a camera when I was much younger and had no idea how dangerous they could be :dizzy:

Lydia- nope, no time off :( I've reschedule the appointment, with lots of apologizing, for Friday.

I tried to do a chest workout at lunch and gave up after about 3 sets of presses and flyes. My shoulders just feel to fragile. Really on the verge of major pain. I ended up walking a fast mile on the indoor track. I HATE falling apart! Eating is slipping too. I have a hard time with all or nothing.

shan- did you move everything yourselves? And now you have to unpack it!

Mel
