I had a dream last night that I joined a gym. The head trainer told me I was underweight and needed to eat more if I was going to work with him.

Lydia227 01-20-2007 12:41 PM

Oh Susan, now that's a dream worth going to sleep for. A personal trainer who tells you to eat more. :lol3:

Although, it reminds me of a time I had overheard a pt with a client at my gym. The woman was rather slight in size. He had a list of foods he apparently provides to his clients on their first visit. I overheard him say, "Do you like peanut butter." I cringed at the thought of the fat content, good fat that it might be, but thought for her okay, for me no way. He probably would tell me to hand over the peanut butter jar hiding in my gym bag"

lol, Lydia. Our nutritionist is a 23 yr old "strongman" who weighs 275 at 6'4" and is hoping to break 300 by June for a couple of competitions. He's solid muscle. Very pleasant and knows all the book learning, but is still aghast and somewhat disbelieving that I maintain on 1400 calories. I listen to the consults he does with older (anyone over 38ish) women, and just know that I'll be seeing them in a month or so after they've gotten fatter on his "it's gotta work this way" nutrition. Yeah...if you are male, 23 and built like Hercules!

I have ONE female client who I have to encourage to eat more.

Susan, what a nice dream! We just bought a new body fat scale at the gym which told me I was "underfat" for my age:lol3: The terminology is kind of funny. My boss told me not to believe it :( Good thing I'm not married to him!

Cardio, cardio, cardio time for me.

Mel

I have a hard time getting my head around some of those statistics .... I'm not in this to be compared to the 'norm'. And it never says you're awesome for your age, they just say ... that's wrong.
Does not compute .....does not compute

tikanique 01-20-2007 06:13 PM

SuB - Eat more? Now that's a dream worth hitting the sack early for.

Underfat?????

Lydia, I too am a peanut butter junkie. If there is a jar in the house, I am chasing it with a spoon and bread, spoon and apple, spoon and pretzels or heck just a spoon. Since DS moved out I no longer keep any in the house so it's not there to tempt me anymore.

I survived the rest of the day but on the way out, since I knew I wasn't going to get home before midnight, I grabbed a small bag of baked lays from yet another office food feast and a diet coke. It let me kind of feel like I was being bad but not really being bad (except for finishing the day with only about 701 calories). When I finally got home I was so tired I didn't even go into the kitchen, I went straight to bed.

Peace. Tiki

Hi LWL,

No formal workout today for me. instead, a lot of household chores, including a 2 hour nightmare cleanout of part of my attic. I actually went there tio get underfloor for the floor i want to lay in another part, but it was so ghastly I had to clean it out. 2 hours later I was exhausted, so was DD who had come to my rescue, and i kept it easy for the rest of the day.

Tiki - good for you to hold out on friday!

SusanB - more food?????
YES!!

mel - underfat ? I"ll never get there I'm afraid.

Have a great day all,
rabbit

Hi all, Tiki, welcome back! Glad to hear you're doing well.

I'm the person who orders snack food for our office....it's a consulting firm, and we generally have all kinds of soda, cookies, etc.....I've been trying to steer everyone in a "healthier" direction....been ordering baked potato chips, instead of regular, yogurt, graham crackers as well as cookies, etc. I decided that I am really going to push the good stuff, so for the last month and a half I have been bringing in clementines and bananas, and it's amazing how quickly they disappear. I don't know if people are eating them instead of the junk food, or in addition to....but it's their problem if they can't discriminate. At least I have something healthy to turn to if I feel temptation.

Lydia, congrats on finally getting the ok to be ok. You must be ecstatic!

Mel, that sledgehammer exercise sounds like something the Stumptious website would cook up. Sounds like fun.

Love the dave draper idea of pullups....get his e-mails but haven't had time to read them in a while...been really busy at work.

Went for an interview at a gym....the guy seemed really eager to hire me...said I had the kind of qualifications he was looking for...sounded great until he told me how I had to sell as well, and that there were quotas I have to meet. But, as my son said....I have nothing to lose...if I don't like it, I can quit. I need to fill out the application and get my certifications in to him. They are moving to a new facility with a pool right across the street from my regular job, so it would be worthwhile to try it.

This morning woke at 4 am(on a Sunday, horrors!), and in disgust got up and used my treadmill for a half hour, then went back to bed. Later I did my chest, shoulders and tris to a Cathe Friedrich tape, then went to the gym and did the elliptical. I'm realy for a nap.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend...it's just started snowing here...our first of the year.

Susan F.

Oh Geez Susan, that's the understatement of the week. I actually got to see the MRI. Really cool images although it was also a little embarrassing to see myself inside out. The doctor stated that the white areas represent fluid around the injury in the first image and then pointed to the midsection and said, "you probably had to go to the bathroom that day. :o

Congratulations on your interview. Even though there are sale quotas involved I hope that it does turn out to be a great exprience for you. Oh and for the record, clementines are awesome. I just wish we didn't have to buy them by the crate here. :dizzy:

We also got our first real snowfall this morning. I think we must have gotten about 2 inches, don't laugh Pat... (I think she's still on vacation) but it was pretty treacherous.

2frustrated 01-22-2007 04:20 AM

Weekend was absolutely horrendous. Lots of food, feeling pathetic and not working out.

I'm slightly injured (but moaning more about it than is probably necessary) with an infected knee - something bit/stung me and then it swelled up to the circumference of a saucer so I went to the walk-in clinic and they drained it, gave me antibiotics and a tetanus. Now I can't raise my left arm or bend my left knee without hurts :( So I'm giving the gym a rest today - I can't even think of anything that I could do... I suppose I could do abs.

srmb60 01-22-2007 06:11 AM

Oh Jenfrus, I'm sorry. Rest that knee!

This is about body composition and I'm having a hard time making it into words so bear with me and clarify if you can ... I'm pretty heavy right now. Sloppy Christmas/winter/vacation fat. However ... I bought a pair of WalMart xsmall scrub pants yesterday. I always considered them to be 130 lb pants. Anything over 130 and I couldn't get them up over my thighs. But they're fine.
My deduction from this is that altho' I was sedentary for a few weeks, I'm still ahead of the game as far as muscle tone is concerned.
Do I hear a three cheers for weightlifting? I'm going to go post something like this in my calorie counters thread.

You could be really original and do a right side/ left side split this week. ;)

Let's see, one-legged squats, single leg deadlifts, one-arm presses, one-arm assisted pullups....

Work the right side today and work the left on Wednesday when your feeling better :D

Just think of the looks you will get at the gym as they try to figure out what you are doing. The right/left split. Come on. Be a trendsetter.

2frustrated 01-22-2007 06:58 AM

Can't I just stay in the office and be miserable with Mac n Cheese?

Lydia227 01-22-2007 07:55 AM

FRUS: Uhmm. Just be careful with that Mac and Cheese. I could easily eat the whole box myself back in the day. :hungry: :faint: I really hope the swelling goes down soon. Our Mighty Fru knocked out by a little bug, that's just not right.

By the way, DH and I watched Million Dollar Baby last night. Good movie. I didn't exactly shed crocodile tears though since you had all warned me of a tragic ending. DH was a little down at the end of the movie though. He said, "Damn, I'm going to have to watch some karate movies now just to get this out of my system." Anyway, thanks for the recommendation.

SUSAN: Hang in there with the extra pounds that have shown up on the scale. I kind of refer to it as my "winter weight". I'm up four pounds right now too. Everything still fits the same, but I know it's there. And your are right, I am also a much smaller size at this weight than before I began strength training.

I've committed the next three weeks to whittling these four pounds off. I'm keeping my eyes on the prize and that is a nice run with DH this spring. The closer I can get to my goal by then the easier it will be on my framework. As Tiki's line states, I'm keeping my food clean and the workouts dirty...(well sweaty anyway.)

elisa822 01-22-2007 08:07 AM

Well I came here to post about my terrible food weekend and feeling like crap and think that it will be hard because everyone here is so "good", but maybe a few of us are struggling right now.

I had too many "functions" this weekend and yesterday's inclded an all you can eat breakfast buffet. Did I mention that I don't do well at buffets? Not that I eat soooo much but I choose all the fattening stuff because it's food that I never eat otherwise.

The only good part is that my bad weekend doesn't make me want to jump off the bandwagon. I'm really looking forward to getting to the gym today and feeling better about myself after. It's just that my food issues mean that it's hard for me to just say "so what - everyone's allowed to splurge now and then".

Okay, enough about me! Frus - mac 'n cheese! mmmm. who doesn't love that? And I'm so sorry about your knee. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Lydia - glad Million Dollar Baby didn't do to you what it did to me. But I'm a sucker for those movies and I found that movie particularly depressing...glad you didn't!

I hope everyone has a great day! :D

2frustrated 01-22-2007 08:12 AM

I resisted Mac n cheese - I just got some fig rolls (newtons) which, while not exactly angellic, they are better than mac n cheese on the fat content!
