Default Think I'm going to puke..........waves of nausea........shoulda known better......

I had to run by the grocery store for a few items today so I thought I would pick up a salad for myself since I'm low on veggies in my diet. I made my usual with mixed greens, cauli, brocc, chick peas, cheese, red cabbage. All good. I had a side of their pasta/broccoli salad and used store dressing. EGAADS. About an hour later I felt as bad as I haven't felt since pg. That food was coming back up. I wish I could, but it takes serious work for me to barf. I'm guessing their pasta salad is loaded with oil and the dressing probably didn't help. OMG - the sins of the past ("I eat a salad every day for lunch, therefore, I'm healthy!") are coming back to teach me a lesson. Sheesh. You never know how terribly you use to eat unless you accidentally venture back and get the bloated stomach and tummy troubles to show for it. May this nite pass quickly......

Sorry Fran. It's my DH calls "the garbage disease" - caused by eating way more fat (and just more food) than you're used to. He used to get it once or twice every holiday season, but has finally with age taken to eating more normally at these events.

My tummy troubles when I ingest too much fat are not the up-chucking type. I get it the other way with horrible, horrible cramping, gas, and then you-know-what. I've discussed it with my doctor thinking that a lot of the symptoms are like IBS, but he won't agree with me until I make a list of every food that triggers the attack. In any case, I feel bad for your tummy. Hopefully you'll feel better in the morning.

Same here Allison, you wish you could throw up but you don't, and then you get what you said! I keep thinking it's like I did have wl-surgery, because after eating healthy awhile, the dumping symptoms are the same if you eat high fat/bad food again. For wls patients it's because they remove part of the digestive tract, for me, I think it just sends a complete purge message to my system if I've been clean for awhile. Oh well, maybe the scale will go down tomorrow! But if I'm going to be sick, I would rather it go the other direction BEFORE all the calories are absorbed!! lol

Default So Sorry!

Oh wow Fran.... I am so sorry that happened to you. I had no idea that it could happen once we started cleaning up our eating habits. I hope that you feel better really soon....

Take care!

Ugh Fran! I wort of wish my body reacted that way! It seems to love fats. Maybe that salad ressing was just unrefridgerated for too long? I'm leery of anything on salad bars that could go rancid easily. I should probably just be wary of salad bars and buffets with all the viruses going around lately.

Hope you feel better soon

Oooh I get the whole down-chuck thing with too much fat, fatty hot milk (I think I have a couple of problems with lactose....) and refined carbs - should make for a healthy skinny Frus you'd think!

I found immodium was good, and also for those who are thinking IBS, those "friendly bacteria" drinks are supposed to be good too. I used to drink one of those a day and it helped.

Hope you're feeling better soon Fran. The lessons we have to learn... Just remember this and learn from it quickly! I can't remember the amount of times I was poorly after eating out to finally put two and two together and stop eating KFC and Pizza Hut

Hi Fran,

I hope you are feeling better! I can relate - with a house full of skinny kids that are lactose intolerant and get stomach aches like from looking at any thing creamy or fatty. IMO your digestive systems just has adopted to the more healthy eating! Probabely its a healthy sign of some sorts. BTW I second Fru's suggestion on the good bacteria... Only I have them in pills. it says 5 million friendly germs in every capsule, and i feed them to the kids after every bout of digestive problems

bye,
rabbit

Jen and rabbit--what kinds of "friendly bacteria" drinks and pills do you take? I am taking something with herbs and psyllium and it helps quite a bit for the day to day stuff, but if I do anything out of the ordinary, I end up with problems again.

DH had horrible IBS and finally can keep it under control with a probiotic supplement called Culturelle (recommended by his gastroenterologist).

After I posted my question, I googled "friendly bacteria" and found a lot of different potions and pills. Culturelle and Acidophilus Pearls sound like good bets (although I do eat yogurt regularly, so the Acidophilus Pearls might be redundant). There were also some potions referred to as "greens" but they don't sound like much more than green vegetable juices.

Thanks all - I had no idea so many people could relate, but it makes sense since we are all on the same improved living path. Luckily it wasn't anything more serious such as bad food or virus - it ran its course in about 4 hours and I got a restful sleep last nite. Bagged up and threw out all remaning containers and got them out of the house - I want NO memories of the wretchedness. I will have to add salad bar to the list of things I can no longer eat. Oh yes, I had to make a list, it's on my blog. Salad bar, bagged popcorn, meat pizza (cheese pizza is still ok but probably not for long), shortbread cookies (GScouts), milkshakes. HAH! All stuff that no one should be eating anyway -- all full of transfats!

Hi allison,

This is what it says on my bottle of pills:
500 mg of pro-bioticum per capsule,
5 billion germs per capsule, consisting off equal parts:
lactobacillus salvarius
lactobacillus casei
lactobacillus acidophilus
bifidobacterium lactus
lactococcus lactis.
filler: cellulose
lubricant: magnesium stearate
capsule is vegetarian

I hope this helps,

Rabbit
