Default A question about sugar and fat.

I know that you have to avoid sugar and fat. I'm just wondering how much you can have before you start to dump. I'm not wanting to push the envelope, and so far I haven't had any dumping or anything. But, everything I mean everything, has sugar and/or fat in it. Even the Chicken Boullion that I use has some sugar in it. I've tried to get in touch with my nutritionist, but it's an army clinic and they don't have any appointments available right now.

When I was in the hospital they gave me a drink called Resourse and it had 34 grams of sugar, which I didn't have any trouble with. So, I've been keeping the grams of sugar at less than that, and it's been fine. I don't know about fat at all. Almost all of the protien drinks that they (military nutrition clinic), have recommended have some fat. None of them more than 4.5 grams. I'm still on full liquids, so I'm not extremely worried about it right now, it's when I start eating normal food that I'm worried about. I know that at some time or another, I'm going to dump. I know that's unavoidable, but I want to avoid it as much as possible if I can. Please help?

gotta be quick here., i'm at work.

the rule of thumb that we were told: more than 15 grams of sugar risks dumping. some folks can have more without effects, and others will dump on the 15 grams.

and don't worry as much about the fat. remember that your portion sizes are a lot different than regular portion sizes, so you have to take that into consideration.

hope this helps... how are you doing otherwise?
