I think the cold comes with losing weight. a friend did Diet Center and lost over 100 # and was in sweatshirts all summer and still was cold. so I am looking forward to that! it will be such a nice change from sweating all the time.

WElcome newbies, I have found this group of ladies to be helpful and friendly and I am sure you will too.

Keep running repairman's wife, we had one lady in town that just had surgery less than a year ago, lost 80 + lbs. and is now pregnant. there were some concerns regarding getting pregnant so soon after surgery, but I hear she is doing fine.

Anyway, Ottumwa is not jsut Radar O'Rielly, but Tom ARnold and of course, for awhile, Rosanne Barr. Ronald Regan was here for awhile when he was "dutch" Regan--now I can't remember if he was here on th Naval base or on the radio. I never will understand the Naval base--we are so far from ANY OCEAN!

OOPs, sorry, that is what happens when I try to type, listen to a coworker, drink tea and watch for a supervisor lurking around the corner.

Thanks all for the support. I had an operation on my hip about 9 years ago and was terrified (but had to be awake the whole time!) and that scares me still. But I just hope it's well worth it in the end!

I have been looking up all kinds of things on the net about the operation, but found a depressing web site yesterday. It had all kinds of BAD things that happened to people during and after the operation. It had me worried! But most of the rest was very positive!

Well, I have to get my but to bed. I'm sleepy! Thanks again!

bella.. be careful with what you're reading. make sure to find out if those people who had bad experiences followed the rules. often they didn't. sad but true. and others just don't believe it when the docs - and everyone else - tells them that they have to make serious changes in their lives in order for this to work.

and mary beth.. the nurse at the obesity center i went to said that women who've had wls get pregnant REALLY EASILY!!!!
so RUN RUN RUN FAST!!!!!

I am SO discouraged. My husband just wrote me a letter and replied to the letter I wrote him about having the surgery. Well, it wasn't positive!!! He said that I should be able to do it the "right" way and that all the operation does is restrict my food so why don't I just restrict my food without the operation!

What a but head!!! I'm so sick of the fact that he doesn't support me! Would it kill him to just say I'm happy for your, or I hope you do will. Even if he doesn't agree with it!

Well ok, I vented! (sorry) just needed to get it off my chest!

I'll live, lol.

Why are they ALL so butt-headed! He's probably just worried about you, Bella, but it is hard when they won't support you on one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make! After all, it's not like you're getting a nose job or a breast enhancement. Of course, he'd probably be all for that! Anyway, sorry no words of wisdom, but here's a hug!

oh bella.. i'm so sorry. many people just don't understand the idea that diets don't work and they certainly don't understand the surgery.

how many diets has he seen you try?? how supportive has he been of your dieting efforts in the past? maybe it's a bit more than fear of losing you. is it possible that he's afraid that you'll change? maybe that you won't want to be with him???

i'm just throwing out some ideas. but you need as much support as you can get.

I first want to thank you all for your support.

My husband has seen me on to many diets to count! And he has never supported me. I don't know why he would be worried. He wants me to lose weight. I was over 100lbs thinner when we got married. So it's not like he has been with me forever at this weight. He is just bull headed! He is military and thinks that eating right and working out cures everything! He has never had any problem toning up and loosing 20lbs or so. He has NO idea what it is like. He was even there when the doc first suggested this. He said she was nutz. But the thing is, he offered (if i wait till he gets home) to work out with me and help me loose the weight, but he NEVER does. He will do it for a week or so and then gets bored! But like I told him, I'm doing it wether he wants me to or not. I'm not doing this for him, I'm doing it for myself. And your right. He has told me that when I want a tummy tuck or my boobs reduced that is fine. Go figgure, lol.

O'well, he'll have to deal with it, he has no choice, lol.

Thanks again for the support!

I read your post last night Bella, and started to reply. Then I stopped and turned off the computer and went to bed. I was really really ticked at your hubby!! So I thought it best to say nothing at the time.

My first question is this..........Who are you doing this for?
Next question.......Do you need his support? No you dont! Its a wonderful thing when your spouse supports all your efforts and most of the time, it makes it so much easier to go thru. But you can do it girl.....all by yourself and all us chickies here to help you.

My last thought after reading your post, ......why doesnt he support any of your weight loss? Think about it, Im sure you can find the answer somewhere.

I used to wonder why my ex never supported my weight loss either, I also couldnt figure out, when I did loose it, he never ever mentioned it or would acknowledge that I lost it. It took alot to figure out why he did that. It was his problem not mine

You'll be fine Bella, do whats best for you, which ever way you choose to go.

my .02
Robin

Well I am with Robbin,
I think you need to look into yourself and find out WHY you want this. is this for you or are you seaking DH's aproval. If this IS for you, you have all the support you need. If it is for him, the surgery will never work.
My other guess is that he likes you fat so that no one else will "like" you and that makes him feel safe. Men like safe and anything outside the box makes them uncomfortable.

So again I am with Robbin, you need to sit down and really look at this and why it is for you you need to be your own best support, if you love you, other's will too...

THANKS TO ALL THE CHICKIES!!!

I am doing this for myslef. That is why I'm not letting him change my mind. I told him he is going to have to live with it and that is that. At this point, so what if he is mad , he's in iraq and can't do a darn thing about it anyway, lol!!!

And your right, I only need you guys and I'll be fine. My dad does support my choice so that is a big help as well. He has already offered to help me with my girls and said he would see if my step mom would come and stay with me for a week or so after the surgery to help out during the worst of the pain. And when she has no answers, you bet i'll be here bugging you all!!!

Thanks again!! Your all the best!!
