Default Back pain

OMG Friday morning I was having the worst back pain of my life, literally I was crying from the pain. I don't know what was going on. I actually hadn't eaten anything yet and the pain was giving me an upset stomach. Thank god I hadn't eaten or I would have vomited for sure. Anyway after putting on a heating pad and a strong pain killer it went away. I had something to eat around lunch and started to get an upset stomach and back pain again about 30 minutes after that. I took some advil and rested with the heating pad and all was well for the rest of the day. Yesterday in the late afternoon my stomach started feeling upset and the back pain started. It eased up after about an hour with the heating pad and advil. Anyone have anything like this before? I'm trying to determine where it is, about mid/lower back I think, it's hard to tell. I was worried about kidney stones or infection but it seems unlikely to hit both at once and it is definitely back pain, not flank pain which is more common with kidney issues. It seems more centralized than to one side or the other and I'm not having any other symptoms ie fever or problems with urination just the upset stomach. I posted on the obesity help website as well and it sounds like others have had similar symptoms with gallbladder problems. I know that gallbladder problems happen with fast weight loss so I'm really crossing my fingers that this isn't it. I've been doing a lot of training, walking/jogging and strength training and I'm hoping that it was just a matter of doing too much too soon. I've taken it easy since Friday and hoping I make it through today without any issues.

I really think you need to call your doctor. This isn't a one-time thing anymore...it's happened 3 times! They'll best be able to tell you if it's something that needs to be checked out right away.

I'm calling my doctor tomorrow though I doubt anything will happen. She makes appts the day of not in advance so I have to call the day I can go in and I can't tomorrow unless I wake up in excrutiating pain. I'll call in though so they can make a note of it in my chart, possibly they'll book me in for an ultrasound.

Good luck tomorrow. I will say that when I was 20, I had my gallbladder removed. The pain was in my lower back, and it would last for a few hours at a time, then go away, and come back a little later. I couldn't stand up straight, and felt constantly nauseous. I think I was only able to eat soup and pineapple a few times in the span of a week. The only thing that helped the pain for me was taking a shower and letting the heat sit on my lower back...I also had jaundice, causing my eyes and skin to develop a yellow tint. At that point I had lost 70 pounds in a span of 5-6 months.

After I had the surgery I did read up on gallstones forming in relation to weight loss and it was something about the cholesterol and bile changing. So I hope that its not whats causing your pain. And hopefully its just you working to hard with your workouts...Again good luck

Jen, if they can't get you in, do you have an urgent care facility near you? That doesn't sound normal.

Could it be gas? I once ate a serving of refried beans that did not digest well. For two days I was doubled up in pain, unable to hardly walk. That was a horrible, horrible experience and I doubt I will ever eat refried beans again. I didn't know what was going on at first, since the pain was everywhere, including my back.

Jen-you're post-op right? Be careful with the advil unless your doc says it's okay to take NSAIDs. I have a scrip for vicodin if I have pain more than Tylenol can handle . . . .

juliemarie - I had a VSG so I can take advil without any difficulties

So far I have had no reoccurence of the pain thank goodness. No idea what caused it, just glad it hasn't come back!

Glad you're feeling better-and good to know about the advil. My mom is having the sleeve done in a few weeks. She doesn't take it much but it's nice to know she can if needed . . .

No matter what may be the cause of your back problems. there are some techniques found in slow-moving exercise programs which can help reduce the pain like Yoga because it helps increase flexibility in the body and improve oxygen levels in the blood and body tissues, which can help aid in healing and recovery.
