Default post-op pain

I'm still having a lot of post-op pain and wondering how long others were still having pain? It is all in my right side. It is fine when I am just sitting or laying with my head up a good bit. I'll get a sharp pain when I twist my body and trying to roll in bed. Sometimes getting up or sitting/lying down can be very painful. This seems a bit odd to be this sore 8 days post-op.

darlin JEN - you've been CUT on the inside! it'll take more than 8 days to heal! honest! be patient.

BUT, if you start having a fever, or the pain spreads or gets worse, you have trouble breathing, or you have really bad digestive symptoms, call your doc.

I know, honestly I know!! It's just that it seems to be getting worse instead of getting better. Like not out of this world worse and no fever, trouble breathing, vomiting, nausea etc. Also it seemed at first to be getting better then it got a lot worse and now I'm not really sure. So I don't know if I did something and just something is inflamed a bit. My incisions are all good, nice and dry and not red, wondering if I have developed an abscess? I know there have been a couple of days where I did too much and so I've really tried hard to not do as much and maybe I've gone into not doing enough!

when do you see your doc next? if it's within the next few days, remember to bring it up with him. if it's not for a few weeks, maybe you should call the office and tell them what's going on.

What you're describing sounds to me like what I had early out - just some tight adhesions (scar tissue) forming. Mine was mostly on my lower right side and would especially hurt when I went to the bathroom and had to twist to, umm, wipe! It's likely getting worse instead of better because the scar tissue is BUILDING, not going away. But it should get better in a couple weeks as things settle and stretch and whatnot.

I would still mention it to your doc when you see him, and, like jiffy said, if you develop any other symptoms like fever, then it's much more cause for concern.

EDIT TO ADD: additional pain meds may not help if this is the case. Since it's not a constant pain, but only caused by certain movements or positions, it might not be helped by an anti-inflammatory or general pain reliever. I didn't have ANY prescription pain meds when I got home from the hospital since they gave me a prescription no pharmacy near me could fill! I had nothing but Tylenol.

I'm with everyone one else on this one also. Gonna take a bit before you are feeling yourself but like it was said...fever, vomit etc...call the doctor.

Normal all Normal...Jill's thought on scar tissue is a solid contender. Don't forget to mention it to the dr. but more than likely it is just normal.

speedy recovery, Honey!

I had my first post-op appointment yesterday, didn't see the doctor just the nurse. She said it was quite normal pain and advised to take Tyelenol ES every 4 hours which I have been doing and since I had a VSG I've also been taking Advil as well. The Advil works better than the Tylenol but I can only take it every 6 hours. I'm okay as long as I'm just sitting or lying down but as soon as I have to move it is so sore. Feels more tender today than it has. I'm not having any nausea or vomiting or fever so that's why I don't think there is anything serious going on, just regular post-op pain. It just sucks!
