Yes you should tell him! Specially if he is not aware of your previous surgery so he can look up what you can have instead.

When doctor's don't know the whole story bad things can happen!

well, shannon, you've found the right place! we have a mix of folks, from pre-surgery and recent surgery [and those folks help us realize what we SHOULD be doing], to folks who are a few years out, and some who are farther out and are struggling [raising hand here].

Right now, I'm trying to focus on protein and no emotional eating. what do you think your biggest challenges are?

Default thank you for making me feel welcome

jiffypop, thanks for making me feel welcome, my biggest problem is i drink alot of pop and have gotten a little hooked on it lol. I am slowly starting to replace it with water so my blood sugar slowly gets used to not having it. I have noticed that my sugar drops out when I am not drinking it like I am body is use too. I too am trying to up my protein and cut out sugar as well. I still don't eat very much but am consuming most of my calories with pop. My goal is to get more active and regulate my sugars. I would love to get back down to at least 140-150. I will keep in touch and I know you can lose the weight just take it one day at a time and you will get there.

I have had no support since losing weight. I was sent to an eating disorder specialist who said they could not help as my disorder is too complicated. My psychistrist has sent me to many psychologists who all say the same. It's as if they are scared of failing so won't take the risk.

I am terrified of the increase. Due to my severe arthritis I am unable to exercise very much. I love swimming but cannot get to a pool due to finances and locality and inability to drive. I can graze as I did before surgery and it is out of control as it was before surgery. I have never suffered "Dumping Syndrome" and actually eat and adore chocolate which I hated pre surgery!!!
I had WLS 18 years ago,
and also regained some of my lost weight,
but then managed to lose that weight plus a great deal more
to get to my ultimate goal....which I've now been maintaining for the past 5 years.

Personally, I think that most of us who've needed WLS
can be considered to have "disordered eating"...
but I don't believe that is a bad thing or anything to be ashamed of.

I had gastric bypass surgery in March 2004, seven years ago. I started pre-op at 340 pounds, and at my lowest post-op weight I was 195 pounds. Some people felt that 195 was still too high because I still fell in the obese category, but I was wearing a size 12 (down from a size 28) and I looked and felt amazing.

About five years post op, I gained back 10 pounds from being basically immobile for two months due to surgery on my leg. When I healed from that, I started a birth control that caused me to gain 50 pounds in three months. (Yay, me!) I threw a pity party, and those sixty pounds invited 24 friends...

The main impetus for the gastric bypass surgery was my father's diabetes diagnosis eight years ago. I had PCOS and was already insulin resistant, so diabetes was a foregone conclusion for me if I didn't do something. Then in March, my mother was also diagnosed with diabetes, and I said to myself, "This party is OVER... Everyone out!"

On March 26th, 2011, having gained back nearly 60% of my lost weight, I joined Weight Watchers. I've been on the Points Plus program for four weeks, and I've lost 11.8 pounds. I have 72.4 pounds to lose to get back to my lowest post-op weight, and I am more motivated NOW than I was when I was dropped weight by the ton after the surgery. I also find it's less of a struggle to envision the light at the end of the tunnel because I've actually been there once before. I can ABSOLUTELY get there again.

I do not consider my weight loss surgery a failure. I was provided with the tools I needed to be healthy and lose the weight; I chose not to utilize those tools as they were intended. I failed myself, and I am the only person who can make it right. So, I have forgiven myself for past mistakes and I have moved on to a healthier future.

Someone already said that WLS fixes your body but it cannot fix your head. That is 100000% correct. I had to get right in my own head again before I could re-start my journey.

Anyone that wants to join me is welcome. :-)

I completely feel for you! I too had the surgery and lost the weight and now am heavier then I am when I firt had the surgery. I don't have any more dumping or any real issues. I have since been diagnosed with compulsive overeating which makes me feel like a lost cause. I have the best of intentions when I go into something and then it falls apart so quickly. I was looking through old pics of myself and it made me sad but seemed to give me some motivation of what I would like to get back to. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

well nicki I like you don't have anymore dumping or any real issues. I to look back on my pics and it reminds me of how and what I am capable of looking. I used to weigh 124 in 2006 and had two yrs of serious depression due to health problems and the antidepressants they gave me made me gain 70 lbs in 6 months I was horrified but I felt normal again and my depression was going away and I have two daughters to think about so I am still taking the meds dispite the affect they caused I am now weighing 210 and have finally decided to beat this weight gain and joined spark for the second time and this time I (like you my efforts have fell apart many times) am choosing to get healthy and make it a lifestyle. I have a 10 yr old who weighs 133lb and I don't want her to be heavy like i was growing up so that is a big motivator for me right now. I bought the spark book and it is great at helping you get started one of the suggestions for motivation is make a collage of pics of you or other things that you want to accomplish (like maybe a bikini) YOu may say ha ha to that but I believe you can do it and would love to be buddies and check in with each other as we go on this journey. My name is shannon, my spouse is joe and my two daughters are jordan 15 and diane 10. well I look forward to getting to know you and helping you along your journey.
