Default frustrated with my surgery center

I saw the surgeon and everything went well. He said we're looking at the end of december for my surgery. He also said he wants me to see this girl annmarie in the office. So I call to make an appointment. She's a counselor which is fine with me. The thing that made me mad was she said she doesn't take insurance and is charging me $50 per session. I told her I don't have much income coming in between my boyfriend and mom, and have a baby so she lowered it to $30 and told me if I don't see her its gonna hold up the surgery. I don't think its fair for my surgeon to make me pay to see her. Like what kind of counselor/psychologist doesn't take insurance? Maybe I'm just pms'ing but that made me really frustrated and mad.

lots of counselors don't take insurance, BUT what usually happens is that you pay the bill, and then submit the receipt to the insurance company and they'll pay you back according to your policy. so, if you pay her 30, and your policy expects you to pay 20% of the bill and they'll pay 80%. you'll get 24 back from your insurance company.

so, call them. and yes, it's frustrating that counselors and dieticians and such are not covered by insurance, but that's our so-called healthcare system for ya!

Ok thanks I didn't know I could do that. I've seen my share of counselors over the years and I was shocked that this one doesn't accept any insurance and that the surgeon didn't tell me (he probably knows since she's in the same office). I guess I'm probably frustrated cuz I just want this all over and to get a surgery date!

I have the same thing going on with my nutritionist. $275 a session, and I am not sure how much of it my insurance will pay. Though I was not told outright that she doesn't accept insurance, just that it's very possible that my insurance won't cover her services. I am going to do what jiffypop suggested and submit it and see what they will cover, I figure anything is better than nothing.

I understand just wanting your date.. I was there with you up until Monday and finally got mine. Hang in there.. it will happen before you know it!
