Default Those with young children

Hi, I'm having band surgery. Most likely next WED. If my husband is able to get the days off to help me. I have an almost 2 year old girl. Does anyone know how long before your able to lift and pick up? She is very attached to me and I have a feeling it is going to be rough.
I also have to stay the night in the hospital for insurance purposes. So hopefully that will be it. Thanks for any answers.

I had RNY but if you have several small lap incisions like I did-you should refrain from lifting more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks. My daughter is 4 so it's been easier for me you'll need help with bathing her and really shouldn't carry her around due to risk of hernias. She can still cuddle or climb up in your lap. Your husband will really need to help out and maybe find some alternative ways to do things prior to surgery. And a "reacher" or whatever it's called is really handy for picking up toys! Actually my 4 yr old likes it so much she's started using it to clean up!

Thanks for the help it is going to be hard. I also already have a huge hernia from my c section. I have to lose weight before I can have it fixed. I'll just really have the dvd working to entertain her.

check with your doc - this is something he/she should have discussed with you earlier. the lapband doesn't involve as much cutting and stitching as the RNY, so i don't know about the lifting.

Yes check with your doctor, my child was 4 at the time and he told me not to lift her...but can't remember for how long. One thing I do remember was he said NO exercise for the first 6-8 weeks... until he ok's it with you. Be gentle with your body, last thing you want is to hurt your innards

CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!
