7 years post op. Has anyone gained?

  • Hi everyone.
I'm new to 3fat chicks. I am 7 years post op & have gained some weight since surgery and post op got down to 164!! The first years few years I gained 5 maybe a year. I got to 190. I KNOW that the weight gain was from my lifestyle. I was young and in the going out stage (alcohol) I slowly began to tolerate more foods (even the bad ones) so I on occasion would eat "bad".
Well a year and half ago I became pregnat and like most women indulged in the naughty cravings. My weight gain was about 20lbs. So in all I'd like to loose 40-60lbs.
Does anyone have any advice on if I should try doing the WLS diet high protien or WW (which is what my general dr reccomended) since i can eat pretty much anything now (except ice cream ... thank goodness)

For those going through the surgery. IT is a tool! And if you stay on the reccomended diet plan YOU can achieve what you want.
It's ok to have the things you liked in the past but do it in moderation and small portions. They'll seem like gigantic portions right after post op. But as years go by you are able to tolerate more. Try to make it a lifestyle. Something I'm getting back into
    Thanks, Mary
  • Low carb or ww.....which one will you stick with the easiest? Which one is closer to your post op wls diet? I feel for you. It is ever in my mind, even if I take one bite of "non" wls prescribe food, that I could oh, so easily gain weight.

Newbies: Don't even try what you are not suppose to have. Follow your post op wls diet FOREVER!

We know that we can all be at a 7 year weight gain at some point. I remember what my WLS surgeon parting words were. "I've done all I can for you. The rest is up to you. Follow the post op rules that we have set up and you will always be successful." 3/4 to 1 cup of food at a time, no more! Space those out over the day with two small protein snacks.....and EXERCISE.

I'm not being mean to Mary, I appreciate her letting us know how things have gone with her and we can use this as a lesson plan for our life.
  • oh Mary Mary Mary. i'm raising my hand here - larger-than-i-can-tolerate weight gain after 8.5 years. and it's all due to bad habits - slipping into carb-loving mode [a serious whole grain cracker habit - isn't that a silly thing???]. too little exercise.

lots of people in our situation have done well on WW. i'm going back to the beginning. THAT's what worked well for me - since WW switched from the old pink program, i haven't had success with it. OTOH, when i look at the WLS program that works, it's remarkably similar to the old pink program.

ya gotta stick with what works for you - the challenge is figuring it all out. AGAIN!!!!
  • Thanks for the help! And good luck to you as well!
I began weight watchers yesterday! I have a cool application on my phone that helps me count my points and keep the journal of what I eat. It was actually kinda fun.
Grazing on carbs and Higher fat food I think is problem.
  • OH and Nancy,
I completely agree! Congrats and good for you for sticking to the lifestyle. I don't think you are being mean one bit. Just Honest about how you are suppose to live post op. I agree 100%, I wouldn't have 60 lbs which (150)was my original pre op goal to get to now if I would have followed the guidelines a little tougher
  • Mary I'd stick to a low GI version of WW (it used to be called core)
I'm doing SB to combat the 17 that have crept back
to reiterate what nan said small portions spaced out thru the day
If you guys want to do menus I'm down for that
right now I'm eating lower fat food and making sure I get my protein

    We're here for you Mary!!
