Default New here and considering lap band surgery...

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting and I have a few questions. I'm considering lap band surgery after years of trying to lose weight. I'm tired of being tired and having absolutely no energy to even play with my kids.

How do you mentally get yourself to let go of food?? I mean, I'm so pathetic that I think going to the movies or ANYWHERE is not as fun if food isn't involved. I need to lose that mentality, for it's killing me. How do you let go?

I'm also wondering about the food you eat the first few months after surgery, then 1 yr or more afterwards. I don't mind portion control, but I'd like to have normal food on special occasions (eventually).

I'd also like to hear success stories about long term weight loss. How has your life changed? Does anyone regret getting the surgery?

An other info would be great!
Thanks

I am currently eight months out from my band surgery. For the first two weeks after, I was on nothing but clear liquids, broth, jello, water, popcicles that kind of thing, then I moved on to mushies. Stuff like mashed potatoes, soups and the like. Then I went back to solid foods. The food that I tend to stay away from are breads (of any kind) as they get sticky and cause horrendous pain until they move out one way or the other. Really dry meat is a problem as well as meat that isn't really a good quality (see McDonalds Hamburger patties and Burger King as well).

I have lost about 88lbs. total and it is slow going, though only because of other issues with thyroid and injuries that I have sustained in the last few months.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

How to get yourself away/off the food??? I think that's something that is different with everyone. If I go to my MILs house I think about food. Thats because she had taught my so much about cooking. It's like we bonded over food...LOL!!

For me one way that helps me is I came clean about my addiction. Everyone around could see that I was addicted I didn't need to tell them....I needed to tell me!! Then I needed to make up my mind that I have had enough...look at what it did to me.....look what I have allowed it to take away from me!! All of this has helped me alot. I am SICK of it....SICK, SICK, SICK!!!

Blessings to you,

Chrissy
