The Basics of Health
Health seems like such a FLEETING thing... at least it seems that way!
Mine is up/down & sideways. I've always been a pretty healthy girl, since I was a kid. Sure, I had my problems & childhood diseases (chicken pox anyone?) but IN GENERAL, I've always been healthy. My very first surgery was when I was 18; had my wisdom teeth cut out, and yes they had to put me under for that.
I'm in my early 40's now. In the past 10 or so years, I've had 6 surgeries, (one elective, tee-hee) and need another one, but attempting to avoid it. I have always enjoyed exercise. Love the outdoors, love to swim, hike, etc. So exercising isn't really an issue for me. I got into weight-lifting when I was in college and still enjoy it to this day. But certain "injuries" keep holding me back, and right now, I am not exercising at all. Part of that, admittedly, is due to depression, which my doctor & I are working on by trying to find the right medication & the right dosage.
I'm always involved in my weight - sometimes I think I am TOO involved about it. I care how I look, yes, I am vain & I freely admit that. But my weight issue is way more than mere vanity. I'm always afraid that I'll get too heavy & suffer from diabetes or other weight related illnesses. So I am FFF - "Forever Fighting the Flab." I've gained 26 pounds since this time last year. I hate it. I'm uncomfortable, my cool clothes don't fit, and I just feel.... BLAH.
I try to eat healthy. It's not easy because I have a sweet tooth from **** and I have a salt addiction... But then again, it IS easy because I love fresh fruits & veggies, fish & lean meats. But I don't like to cook (I'm weird, I know!)
As far as my current health ...
I've got a serious pulled muscle in my left calf. Which of course, prevents walking or weight lifting as a means of exercise. (It's very ouchy!!!!!) I've been pulling a LOT of muscles the past few months, and I just don't get it!! It's usually by doing general every-day things, too. Just move the wrong way & BAM! -I'm having a Ben-Gay party. I bought a couple of DVD's this weekend: "Yoga for Beginners" and "Yoga and Pilates for Dummies." I am hoping that some yoga/pilates will help me to stretch out a bit more.
I've got a pinched nerve in the back of my neck that drives me batty. I'm having tum-tum icky troubles, which is a come'n'go thing for me... waaah... BUT IN GENERAL - I'M PRETTY HEALTHY!
So - what's up with YOUR HEALTH these days? And what do you do for the goodness of you & your family?
