I'm a bit opposite than most. I readily volunteer information on how I lost weight. I feel very proud for doing it and want others to know that it's possible. I even carry my before and after picture in my purse and it gets loads of use.

It took me a long time (like, 35 years) to learn the gracious art of saying "thank you". Once, a woman I admired complimented me on a necklace I was wearing. I started talking about how it was on sale at Kohl's and she touched my arm, looked me in the eye, and said very gently, "'Thank you' is all you need to say."

That was so telling for me. After that, I began to pay attention to how people responded to compliments. I eventually began to deliver a genuine but simple "why, thank you!" It's come in handy, as now I simply say that when someone comments on my weight.

I mostly respond to the question "how did you do it?" by saying "eating less and moving more, and being persistent about it". Once, I did my best wicked-witch impression and said "I'm mellllllting!!"

LOL @ "my clothes grew"!

Default your not alone

Hey I just wanted to let you know you are not alone. I have just been thinking about this over the past few days - that I am struggling with people giving me compliments. They say "wow you have lost a lot of weight...you look soo good...you should be soo proud of yourself" and then I just stand there with a half smile. I guess it could because I have a ways to go before I reach my goal and start noticing it myself. I am fitting back into some of my old clothes that had gotten too small and now some of my belts are too big. I guess we just need to work on smiling and thanking someone for noticing and take it as a little reminder that our hard work is paying off!
