ALSO currently I use a treadmill but I just renneted it and only paid till June 1. I see that an exercise bike (used one on the weekend) burns like twice as many calories and it looks like an eliptical burns even more. Would it be worth while to rent one of those instead?

Well, I don't know that an exercise bike automatically burns twice the calories. So many things have to be factors-you can walk on a treadmill at 2mph...or you can powerwalk fast on it and walk at a 3.5mph pace...or jopg on one, and the calories burned is really different. The same is you use the incline feature-walking on a slight incline is harder, and burns more calories than walking on it completely flat.

With an exercise bike-the calories burned depends completely on how fast you are pedaling, and what the intensity level/resistance level is set at on the bike. There are many, many variations in almost all exercise equipment to make it an easier or more advanced workout. So, depending on what you have your intensity levels set at, the different machines can burn about the same amount of calories, or one can burn more.

Well I usually jog (4.5ish) and walk(3.5ish) on my treadmill and when I am done the treadmill usually says 130ish. But I think it is wrong cuz the ones at the gym used to say more. When I put it in fit day it works our to about 200 or so.

I used the bike and when I was done it said 382. When I put it into fitday it said 375. But to me it seems to take less effort to use the bike... I guess there is a huge benfit to a bike or an elliptical they make was less noise so I can use it early in the morning when everyone is still sleeping...

treadmills are most inaccurate! they have to be calibrated ALL the time so most are not trustworthy on the milage/calories etc...they are prolly within a half mile or so..but still.

You have to keep in mind that although walking is not burning alot of calories - it is burning fat and shaping your muscles.

I love to walk because it trims your waist, legs and arms which is important!

190 calories a day may not seem like much but it adds up to almost 20# a year. It also builds a cardio platform to work from, you cant just jump into exercise and go full out, you need to build up a fitness level first.

It also reduces stress and regulates insulin levels in your body, helping prevent fat gain.

Sotypical, if you will use a bike or eliptical more definatly trade it in. Also changing your exercises every so often makes sure your body doesn't get used to one exercise giving you diminishing returns.

I really, really believe that exercise is absolutely vital for overall health, but weight loss is going to be primarily through adding up what you eat!
While this is true to an extent you don't want to go too low on calories or you will stall your weight loss. Just remember to try and eat healthy and proper portion sizes then try to burn the rest off with exercise.

One thing that helped me:
Instead of just figuring out that oreo would cost me 'X' amount of time in exercise, I try to make myself do the exercise first for any junk food. By the time your done putting in your exercise for that cookie chances are you wont think it's worth it anymore.

Riding a bike is easier for me then jogging (except my butt gets sore from the seat) and if it really does burn more calories I would way rather use that. I just didn't know if it 'really' burns more... but if it does then for sure I want to switch in! And an exercise bike takes up wayyy less room!

If you use it more it will burn more by default. I've noticed I can spend alot more time on a bike than I can a treadmill. I think it also helps increase muscle because of the resistance so it will help you burn calories that way too.

I probably could spend more time on a bike... but I also noticed the same amount of time of moderate effort on the bike burned about 100 more caloires then jogging... I found that weird, but I am all for the bike now! haha
