  • I once went on a crash diet, and then gained it all back. Don't eat fewer than 1200!

To answer your question... 30 lbs. in two and a half years. Yeah, if I ate 1200 calories a day, I'd be done by now. But I would have gained it all back, too.
  • I started much higher than most of you. I've lost 78 pounds in 9 months.

I calorie count, currently eat 1800-1900 calories a day and exercise an average of 30 min a day. I also have a long way to go.

I regularly lose 1-2 pounds/week. It was more at the beginning.
  • Ive lost about 29 pounds took me three and a half months just about
Lost about 2 pounds a week at first, now its about 1 pound a week.
I eat about 1200-1400 cal. a day and exercise about 2 hours everyday.
  • Yup - 500 is WAY too low (i think the 5 year old I look after needs more than that!). It's true that you will lose, but it'll wreak havoc with your body and it's really, really unhealthy - I've been there. It's a really bad mindset to get into, and there's absolutely no way you can get the nutrition your body needs out of 500 caolries a day. The problem is that your body will go into starvation mode, storing fat. This means it'll burn anything, including muscle, before fat, because in a survival situation fat is the thing that'll keep you alive the longest. It serisouly messes up your metabolism, too. And if you start eating normally again once you reach your goal you'll shoot right back up, because you'll have trained your body to think it might have to go for long periods without food, so it'll start storing what you eat as fat again. Even as a sedentary person you'd need about 1200 calories a day to maintain 110 lbs. I'd definitely re-think what you're eating, maybe talk to a nutritionist to help you come up with a reasonable eating plan. I just don't want you to get sick - we're all about losing weight in a healthy, maintainable way, even if that means it takes awhile.
I've lost 22 pounds in four months (a little over a pound a week), which has at times felt agonizingly slow - but it hasn't been difficult to keep losing, so I'm happy with it.
  • I honestly think there's been an increased in wannabe-pathetically-thin teenage girl users here. I mean seriously, why would anyone want to eat so little? Food is great! I can survive on 700 calories each day without my stomach even bothering me but why would I? Even if I had NO apetite at all I would make the effort to eat at least 1300. It's funny, because the more calories I miss each week, the likelihood that a binge day will hit m in the near future increases.... that just tells me that the body eventually gets you back for all the calories youve unrightfully deprived it of.
  • I have been working on my fitness for the last 23 months. In that time, I have lost 291 pounds.

I have a feeling that some users will attack the starvation mode theory, but sierra ttw is absolutely right ("Starvation mode" is a term used by biochemists indicating the alternate pathways of metabolism in which the body digests any available source of its preferred food, stored skeletal muscle glycogen rather than proceeding with fatty acid metabolism; this is NOT the same "starvation mode" people dispute about here!)
Eventually, when you intake less of your basal metabolic allowance, your body will have to find some other carbohydrate source. I hope you love your organs enough to eat more than 500 calories a day, young lady. Because I had a friend with damaged heart tissue due to prolonged starvation and glycogen depletion.
  • If you only eat 500 calories a day your body is going to starve itself and hang on to all your fat. You will not lose weight that way. You need to eat at least 1200 cal a day. How much do you weight by the way? How much are you trying to lose? We just want you to do this healthy.

I started my weight loss Jan 6th this year. I've lost 42 pounds by cutting calories and exercising 5 days a week. I have lost about 1-4 pounds a week depending on the week.
  • I have to echo the whole.. 500 cals a day is absolutely insane! And yes the "starvation mode" its not psychobabble. It happens. You may lose "weight" but you wont lose fat. Then you will be 110lbs of bones and flab. Thats not sexy in a bikini at all. In my opinion 1200cals is way to low. Sometimes I dont get the calories I should, but I try to make up for it the next day. You may not be that hungry but you should sneak in some nuts, peanut butter with your apple, olive oil on your salad.. ect. Small things that make a huge difference.

I have 1c oatmeal in the mornings ( thats uncooked, Im sure its like 2 cups after its cooked) with a 1/2 of raisins and a tbsp of smart balance light and 2 teaspoons of honey. So my breakfast in itself is almost 600 calories. Its the meal that has the highest amount of calories for the day.. I eat a little less at lunch, and then a little less or about the same at dinner. I stay satisfied, I dont have any cravings, Im getting my calories.. and I lose weight. Everyone is happy!

Eatting like you do, makes me scared of you falling into anorexia or bulemia. Dont set yourself up for an eatting disorder. Skinny doesnt equate beauty.. if you are unhealthy on the inside it will show on the outside.

I think that's kind of a crude way to say it. I'm sure you didn't mean it like it sounds, but just because someone is starving themselves it doesn't mean they should be called pathetic. ^^; That's no way to help someone.

I myself have a hard time making myself eat that much a day, whenever I get a little hungry I grab some healthy food like fruit or a lean slice of meat to keep my body feeling fine untill Lunch or Dinner. Or if I'm craving chips I get some pretz sticks instead.

But anyway, instead of thinking of it as eating too many calories, eat something really healthy that is good for you. I'm sure you will feel better about eating something healthy while maintaining a good number of calories. I know I would feel okay eating a fruit bowl and adding 300 calories to my daily intake than I would eating a couple slices of pizza.. it's easier to get it in if you think of it that way.
  • My record so far:

This is my weigh in day and the number of weeks on program in ()
    3/22 (01) 9lbs gone -- this week was detox
    3/29 (02) 6 lbs gone
    4/05 (03) 1 lb gone
    4/12 (04) 3 lbs gone
    4/19 (05) 4 lbs gone

so far a total of 23. I do not count calories. I am on Atkins, measure my food and do LOTS of exercises in the morning. I also only weigh in the mornings as anything you eat adds the weight of the food in your body up to 3 hours (my nutrionalist told me this).

No, no , no.... pathetically THIN doesn't mean the chick's PATHETIC. Pathetically thin is my way of saying, the girl's really really thin. 90lbs 15 lbs underweight for a 5'3 girl. I know, I was once 90 lbs!
  • I just got a FitDay account and I really feel that it will help. I registered my weight goals and found that I have to lose 1.27 pounds a week to reach my goal by December. It sounds alot easier to say 1.27 pounds than to say 45 pounds! Listen to your body, eat when you're hungry, stop when you're satisfied.
  • I have been trying to eat more today and so far i have had, for breakfast carnation instant breakfast-220, for lunch some cheesy crackers with peanut butter in the middle-220, and yoplait whips yogurt-140, so a total of 580 calories so far.

this morning i weighed 124, and i want to go down to anywhere between 100 and 110.
  • anonymous girl -- How old are you, how tall are you? Is 100-110 even a reasonable goal for you? It sounds very low.
