On the "america's next top model" show - Tyra gave away the secret of how they get pictures with that big space between their legs? They put their knees together and their feet apart but facing each other...these women are sticks and they need a trick...quite an eye opener for me.
When I lost weight before, I noticed my thighs *almost* had a space between them. I would be happy to get to that point again. At that point they just brushed together instead of having to grind together and give way for one another. Currently they make the insides of my pantlegs go threadbare. Grrr. Goodbye thighs!
Hey there...I've always disliked my big thighs from my Dad's side of the family. But, now after getting into lifting weights the last year, they've really taken on a new slimmer form and I am liking them more! It's really amazing that the heavier I lift, the better I like them. I don't get huge, just more toned, including that inner part.
Now, I know it will never be perfect being over 40 and having been overweight my whole adult life, but progressing really keeps me working at it! I love the barbell squats and the incline leg press (now able to do 6 reps of 380 lbs!), for working the whole leg.
In the last 6 months, I actually reduced my calf size by a whole inch! Elliptical and stationary bike with tension added to it has helped that.
So, I'm going to keep working on increasing my weights in lifting. I whole-heartedly suggest looking into it!
Much of what determines where your fat is stored and where it comes off when you lose is determined by genetics. So while firming up your legs will make them less jiggley it won’t make them less fat specifically, it will make the fat look prettier if that makes any sense.
this is soooo true!! I have tree trunks for legs (thanks gram) ....got the batwings from the other gram! But exercising your legs makes a big difference in how they look under the fat! ....and yes, it makes the fat look prettier! So keep at it....you'll widdle it all away eventually.
I've always had those saddlebag thighs, even when I weighed 145 lbs. in my 20s. I'm finding now, however, in my 50s that my saddlebags aren't quite so full. I'm fairly sure it's the amount and kind of exercise I do that's making a difference. I think I'll always have saddlebags, but it's nice that they're not as gross as they were.
I think isolating your lower body when working out is important like a lot of you have been saying. Resistance and weight training are key to to start seeing changes in those areas. Whoever said that you lose fat from all over your body was right, but isolating also helps in the sculpting department. I've also heard that when you feel that your body isn't losing from where you want it to, there are cellulite creams and such that help fat cells in that area disappear so maybe that's worth a try as well. Just my two cents.
I havent read all of the posts yet because I am sleepy sleepy sleepy! My arms are huge, but not as huge as they were before I started using pilates. I wanna get The Firm. I will have to wait till later on that.
My dad has really big legs and my mom has sticks. Guess who I took after? I first realized I had big thighs in junior high when I ran track and could outrun everybody! I overheard my parents commenting that I was so fast because of my big, muscular legs. Of course, when I developed hips I lost my speed. The way I am built, I know I will never, ever have thin thighs. And will probably never have any kind of a gap between the upper thighs. I just hope the fat up there goes away someday and they don’t rub together as much (I can live with “brushing together”). But I have a feeling that I will lose my boobs entirely before that happens.
chick_in_the_hat, that is very interesting about what models do to get that gap. I tried it myself and my thighs don’t quite rub. Do you think I’d look silly if I walk that way to keep my thighs from rubbing together?
maggie, how long has it taken you to get to the point that you’re happy with your thighs? I always do the elliptical and stationary bike with tension, and I do lots of squats and lunges. I know it will take time to burn the fat, but just curious about your experience.
sf40, I also think my boobs will be gone before my thighs merely brush together again! It's just the way I'm built. I'll take it, though... I'll go back to being a B/C instead of a C/D. I think BF might even prefer it.
LOL! Man, I really wish it were possible to get a part of someone's boobs. My friend has like, HUGE pass the E size- boobs and she's always saying, well, "I wish I could give you some of mine!" I hate eating the way I do because it just makes me even more flat chested!

LOL I know what you mean... my flat chested friend and I have always thought about asking the surgeons if you get a discount on a boob job if you bring your own donor!!
Oh thanks a LOT... LOL yeah that is what ALL the nutrition tells us. Great encouragement for those of us with skinny little legs and thighs, and butts that disappear when we lose weight. I carry virtually ALL of my weight in my boobs and stomach and believe me that is not fun either LOL. I can't buy a pair of pants because the legs are HUGE LOL. But OTOH I am still glad my butt and thighs don't fill them out; just wish the rest of me would cooperate also!!!
And LOL Kate don't feel bad... in shorts I look like the watermelon with a couple of snakes sticking out as legs!! Actually my legs are not skinny though, just average, but I actually like the size of them at least when I am thin and in shape.
Misti I think we might be built similarly. Now that I've lost some weight the disparity between my torso and my legs is even more laughable. Watermelon with sticks exactly! Actually my thighs still have a decent amount of fat but my calves are practically non-existent. They would be really beautiful and toned if I didn't have to compare them to the rest of my body. I am with you on the shirt beef too, I am constantly pulling down all my shirts, what is with this short-shirt trend. It is kind of like the low-rise jeans thing, except pair the two together and you have a very non-flattering clothing style for 95% of the population. Oh, when will they learn!
