I also do know that to lose weight, you have to burn more than you eat, but if you are trying to eat at least 1000 - 1200 calories, I don't see how on earth I can possibly burn that many calories unless I worked out from the time I got home until the time I went to bed???? All I have is an elliptical machine, I don't have any workout tapes or anything and walking after dark in my neighborhood is not an option, unfortunately.....
Honey, you don't have to workout to burn all the calories! Your body burns calories naturally even when you're sleeping. A general rule of thumb to determine how many calories you burn in a day without ANY exercise at all (and this is for someone who is completely sedentary) is to multiply your weight by 10. So, if you weigh 160, then your body would burn around 1600 calories a day if you just laid in bed 24-7 and didn't move This is just a guideline, of course--everyone's body is unique, but it is a good starting point.

I've never heard that before, but you have taken a mental weight off my shoulders! (I also hope I didn't sound as stupid in my last post as it seems, lol!)
Diva -- Jill said EXACTLY what I was going to say. That "lie in bed and burn calories" is called Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Then consider that if you DON'T just lie in bed, every activity burns some calories above and beyond that, from driving, to cutting vegetables, to typing on a computer. Even someone who's lightly active can burn 100s of calories a day in daily activities. To maintain a weight of 160, you might be able to eat, say, 2200 calories a day [note: I totally made that number up, AND everyone is different].
Weight loss would then happen if you ate fewer calories/day... if you want to lose 1 pound/week, you could 500 calories/day less than you need to maintain... in this example, 1700 cals/day. The trick is to figure out what works for your body. Plus, as you lose, you need fewer calories to maintain your weight...
Hope this makes sense as far as hypothetical examples go...
Here is where the weird part is - I don't eat chocolate or sweets or potato chips or any other junk foods like that - never have, except once in a blue moon and even then, not much. So, you'd think I would be a skinny little thing. But I'm not.
Jill is right. It's not what you eat but how many calories you consume. You can get fat eating nothing but vegetables, if you're taking in more calories than your body needs.
Hi there! I have the problem of munchies too. I do pretty good, but sometimes, I crack I guess. If my DH would stop buying it. I usually make him take it to work and keep it with his stuff there, so I am not tempted.
I take flax seed oil capsules, (it's good for many things, your heart, immune system, digestive system etc) I take one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.
It helps me feel full. Not so full, that I don't eat my meals. I eat three a day. I have never been one to count calories, I am not good at that stuff. I just make sure I am not eating junk and I drink a ton of water.
