One of the most discouraging thing that happened to me while shopping and overweight was that the Macy's store actually moved everything size 16 and up out of their store and into another storefront down the way in the mall.

You can still buy a size 22 swimsuit or promdress at Macy's, the only catch is that fat people aren't allowed in the store, just around the corner and up a flight of stairs to shop.

I can just imagine the board meeting where they floated this concept.

Official Reason: It will make it more conveniant for the heavier woman to shop if all the plus size clothing is conveniantly in one location.
Real Reason: Our store will appear more "hip" if we make all the fat people go somewhere else.

I don't know if all Macy's stores do this, but I thought the whole idea of a seperate store for fat clothing was really insulting - like we don't like cute clothes?

Another shopping thing

In 1993 I went shopping in the Mall in Anchorage, AK. ALL the stores in Alaska has sizes through 16-20 and this was over 10 years ago. I thought it was pretty cool being able to buy stuff off the shelf that our stores in Seattle didn't order in those sizes.
