day 122 ...
no late-night eating ... 81 days in a row and another new world record ! water is my friend. food is not to be used as a drug. embracing these 2 thoughts is important to me. also, maintaining and expanding on my 2 GLORIOUS world records is a great motivator to me. a 3 star day ... 17 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 123 ...
no late-night eating ... 82 days in a row and another new world record ! was knocked out of bed early this morning by a headache. since starting the evening coffee program this has only happened twice, along with 2 other mornings where i had very mild headaches. i am pretty sure that i forgot to have a coffee last night ... so there's that. with tomorrow mornings weekly weigh-in approaching the scale is acting funny; hope it corrects itself but, regardless, i will continue to work the plan ... down 22 pounds in 18 weeks is not indicative of something that needs to be messed with. a 3 star day ... 18 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 124 ...
no late-night eating ... 83 days in a row and another new world record ! scale not responding. i am used to that; it always seems to catch up eventually, but it seems to be taking a bit longer this time. i HAVE been indulging lately in buns or muffins but i felt that i was cancelling out the calories with less day-time snacking. it could also have something to do with the fact that i have been anything but "regular" lately. if the scale doesn't respond by wednesday morning at the latest, i am going to have to give myself a demerit in the "clean eating" category, which would put a halt to my incredible world record. a 3 star day ... 19 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 125 ...
no late-night eating ... 84 days in a row and another new world record ! the scale finally paid me that pound that it owed me so all is well. i am already at goal for the month with a week to go. the challenge will be to keep it off and hopefully even shed 1 more pound in the remaining week of march. this will be dicey as all week i will be having a late (high calorie) brunch at dennys after football practices. to maintain a respectable calorie deficit, snacking between 1:00pm and dinner (usually around 8:30pm) must be kept firmly under control. that's quite a chunk of time. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 20 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 126 ...
no late-night eating ... 85 days in a row and another new world record ! halfway into this week of substituting a restaurant brunch in lieu of my normal at-home breakfast routine. i have actually found it to be quite manageable. i like feeling (somewhat) full in the middle of the day rather than longing for snacks. even so, i am not sure i would want to make skipping breafast a permanent thing, but it's nice to know it can be an option and not find myself going off the rails. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 21 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 127 ...
no late-night eating ... 86 days in a row and another new world record ! 86 ??? i had to check that to make sure i didn't mis-type. not so long ago it seemed a mighty struggle to string together 2 non-snacking nights in a row. doing fine with these late brunches in lieu of breakfast. not even mentioning headaches anymore unless i actually get one. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 22 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
128 ...
no late night eating ... 87 days in a row and another new world record ! today was the 5th of a series of 6 morning workouts after which we have a (planned) late (high-calorie) restaurant brunch. i think that i have been successful in countering these with reduced mid-day snacking but only the scale knows for sure. keeping the mind and body busy definitely helps steer one away from the unhealthy habit of using food to alleviate boredom. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 23 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 129 ...
no late-night eating ... 88 days in a row and another new world record ! today was the last in the string of restaurant breakfasts; we shall see how the scale feels about all this. i really do think that i am maintaining a decent calorie deficit though. if there is an area that i could improve in, i think it would be to eat a little less cottage cheese. this is my guilty pleasure these days. if i could swap a cup of cottage cheese each day for a cup of vegetables i think i would really be doing something. monday is weekly weigh-in day and i hope to be at or slightly below 185lbs. a 3 star day ... 24 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 130 ...
no late-night eating ... 89 days in a row and another new world record ! yesterday was oddly challenging. had the last of our 6 day string of restaurant brunches and later on i was considering a quick trip to the bakery down the street for a muffin and croissant to have for an after-dinner dessert. then i did a bit of mental math re: calorie intake and also realized that a high-calorie brunch + calorie laden baked goods would certainly warrant giving myself a demerit for the "clean eating" category. in the end, i didn't want to lose one of my glorious world records so i exercised a bit of willpower/common sense and i'm glad i did. the other challenge was in the "water intake" category. i realized late in the evening that i had only consumed 2 glasses of water thus far in the day (target is 4 minimum). i quickly downed 1 and shortly thereafter drank another, but it kinda felt like cheating ... almost . a 3 star day (barely) ... 25 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN (barely); clean eating ... WIN. |
day 131 ...
no late-night eating ... 90 days in a row and another new world record ! allowed myself to get bored yesterday and snacked more than i should have. no doubt i still ran a calorie deficit but probably not as much as i would have liked. did drink my water though, and all the snacks were healthy ones ... so there's that. i have plenty to do today and the weather is great so i should be able to work the plan just fine. scale is getting "funny" again as i approach the month-end weigh-in but there's still 3 morning weigh-ins left for it to come around. goal is 185, currently at 185.5. a 3 star day ... 26 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
I can identify with you the challenges you are going through.
|
day 132 ...
no late-night eating ... 91 days in a row and another new world record ! all good news today ... the scale is responding as it always does (eventually) to a string of winning days. today should be much like yesterday ... decent weather, plenty to keep me busy and i am motivated because i am getting results. a 3 star day ... 27 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 133 ...
no late-night eating ... 92 days in a row and another new world record ! no news is good news, i suppose. ticking right along. on target for the monthly weigh-in tomorrow. i am actually losing 5.5 lbs per month which is a little above target. i could afford a few more calories, but not sure that i want to mess with a good thing. will definitely go for some sushi tonight as i could use a break from chicken/fish. going to incorporate (small servings of) ground beef into the food plan at least once a week now. in the bad old days i could easily make a stir-fry which was mostly ground beef, blissfully ignoring the huge calorie load that it packed. a 3 star day ... 28 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 134 ...
no late-night eating ... 93 days in a row and another new world record ! made my targeted weight loss for march so i just changed my current weight figure today. i am now down to the last notch on my belt which is where i was after 2 separate 15-day juicing episodes. i don't recommend juicing ... hungry all day long, no bowel movements (nothing to move) and when you go off it, the weight comes roaring back on ... just like any other fad diet. i am embarrassed to admit that i got caught up in that fad, along with another currently popular fad diet. a 3 star day ... 29 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 135 ...
no late-night eating ... 94 days in a row and another new world record ! having been on a major winning streak there is always a danger of getting over-confident. guess i should just not worry and stay the course. there is usually a point somewhere in the middle of the day, and there is ALWAYS a point sometime in the middle of the night where i feel hungry. i have to remind myself that it's not the end of the world, food will arrive soon and in sufficient quantity. in the middle of the day i can always grab a glass of water and, if i am really hungry a piece of fruit, a few tablespoons of cottage cheese, or make a quick salad. staying the course, working the plan, drinking water, not messing with success. a 3 star day ... 30 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 136 ...
no late-night eating ... 95 days in a row and another new world record ! really nothing to report so i thought i would use the next few journal entries to explain what i am doing and how i am doing it for anyone who may be reading now, or in the future. perhaps someone can benefit from my experience . definitions for the 3 categories that constitute a "3 star day " ... night -time eating ... officially, the kitchen closes at 9:00 pm, but i find myself making /eating dinner so late, and then immediately following it with a (usually) healthy dessert that i am sometimes not done with eating until 10:15pm or so; but after that, i am DONE. no getting up off the couch later for a quick snack, or getting up in the middle of the night for same. this is becoming habit, i suppose, but i am still tempted every single night. water intake ... 4 eight ounce glasses minimum is the goal for each day. in the bad old days, i might go a whole month without 4 glasses of water, so this isn't the slam-dunk that it may appear to be. there is the occasional day where it's dinner-time and i realize that i have only had 2 glasses so far and i have to cram 2 more in me before bed. did this just last night, in fact. clean eating ... this is a little harder to define. it started out meaning that NO cookies, bread, pies, cheddar, fast-food and such were permitted. as i progressed, i found that i was aligning myself more and more with what weight-watchers seems to be doing, i.e., NOTHING is banned, but there is a price to pay for eating processed junk. basically, if i have a "junky" food item and am otherwise eating healthy all day then i will consider that to be worthy of a "clean-eating" star BUT ... if i eat something "junky" 2 or 3 days in a row i feel that i should get a demerit for self-sabotage. a 3 star day ... 31 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 137 ...
no late-night eating ... 96 days in a row and another new world record ! as a follow-up to the previous post i will make list of the things i DO eat. as i stated, i am following fairly closely what i believe to be the basic weight-watchers plan. i am not, nor have i ever been, nor do i plan to be (too cheap) a member of weight watchers, but i really think they have the right idea. from what i can tell, their "points" system is nothing more than simplified calorie counting and, while i don't actually count calories, i am keenly aware of the calorie load of the food that i eat . things that i eat every day and wouldn't want to be without ... EGGS TURKEY BACON FROZEN FRUIT MEDLEY (strawberries, mangoes, peaches and pineapple) . thawed and warmed up in the microwave to slightly above room temperature ... delicious. BONELESS, SKINLESS CHICKEN ... usually poached in water. FRESH FRUIT ... bananas, apples, oranges. COLESLAW ( in a package already shredded and add homemade oil & vinegar dressing) FRESH BROCCOLI FROZEN BEANS FROZEN BRUSSELS SPROUTS COTTAGE CHEESE (lactose-free) OATMEAL (with a drizzle of honey) FISH COFFEE, BLACK ... around 4 cups a day WATER ... OF COURSE ... minimum 4 glasses a day. there are a few other things that i eat occasionally but try not to eat too often because of the calorie load . will list them tomorrow. a 3 star day ... 32 in a row and another new world record ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 138 ...
no late-night eating ... 97 days in a row and another new world record ! well, it had to happen sooner or later ... or did it ? yesterday was a family birthday. of course i knew there would be dessert, and plenty of it. knew it was coming, planned for it, gave myself permission for 2 servings of dessert. went off the rails, had 4 servings. not acceptable behaviour for me. this is not what people do when they want to achieve and maintain a weight they themselves deem proper. of course it's not the end of the world; the calorie load will only set me back a day. it's the lack of self-control when face-to-face with my "problematic" foods. there will be other festive occasions where my favourite desserts will be on display. i intend to rise to the challenge at those times. as stated in my previous post, on my plan, NO food is off-limits, but there are self-imposed limits on the QUANTITY of certain foods that i intend to adhere to in order to achieve and maintain my goal weight (not to mention my self-esteem). it did NOT have to happen; it's up to me what i eat and how much of it. period. i also was treading dangerously with low water intake and had to drink 2 glasses late at night to achieve goal ... so there's that. my world record for 3 star days stalls out at 32 in a row. it was a glorious run and the scale confirms it. re-setting the counter at "0" and getting back in the saddle. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... FAIL. |
day 139 ...
no late-night eating ... 98 days in a row and another new world record ! spring is really here now and the ability to go outside and keep busy really helps to keep me from snacking. the only drawback is that i tend to forget about water, so i will have to develop a new habit of grabbing a glass of water during my trips back into the house. just realized that i am sleeping much better than in the early days. also, the temptation to eat at night is still there, but it's definitely not as intense as it used to be. a 3 star day ... i only need 32 more in a row to break my own world record. this is exciting ! night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 140 ...
no late-night eating ... 99 days in a row and another new world record ! went a bit heavy on the snacking yesterday. all healthy stuff and almost certainly still ran a (SMALL) calorie deficit, so issuing myself a warning, rather than an actual demerit. SNACKING IS NOT MY HOBBY ! a 3 star day ... 2 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN (warning issued). |
I thought this was a private kind of blog, VeggieManJoe; I scrolled thru pages and didn't see anyone else reply, so I didn't either (Like would I jump over a cliff if everyone else was also, lol) then I saw a post you made to someone recently to console them that their post didn't get any replies; you said that your pages and pages had only one comment. I have seen your progress and I applaud you!
|
hi, vermontmom ... thanks for looking in on me and for the kind applause !
no, nothing private about this "blog". i find it really helpful to look back through my early entries to see how much harder it was in the beginning. if anyone reads this and gets something from it that is a bonus. in my time here i have seen several real people sign in and get no support, (undoubtedly because the old-timers have seen too many spammers to be bothered anymore) so i will usually direct them to a group. thanks again and good luck with your plan/goal. |
day 141 ...
no late-night eating ... 100 days in a row and another new world record ! the scale hasn't budged in a week but i am getting used to that. stringing together a few 3 star days has always gotten it moving in the right direction in the past. staying the course. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 3 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 142 ...
no late-night eating ... 101 days in a row and another new world record ! scale still not moving. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 4 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 143 ...
no late-night eating ... 102 days in a row and another new world record ! the scale showed a drop when i first stepped on it then when i stepped on it again it went back up to 184. usually when it does this it will move for real the next day ... as long as i work the plan. water is my friend; snacking is not my hobby ! a 3 star day ... 5 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 144 ...
no late-night eating ... 103 days in a row and another new world record ! well, the scale finally moved, so that's a relief. i think there are 2 things going on here ... 1st, i weigh 25 lbs less than when i started, thus needing less calories and 2nd, i am eating just a bit more lately. together, the calorie deficit is not what it used to be so the weight loss, while still ongoing, is slower than it used to be. i was losing about 1.5 lbs per week. if it slows to 1lb. per week i am just fine with that (that was the original plan anyhow). the plan for today ... same as yesterday ... stay the course, be wary of excessive snacking and drink 4 glasses of water minimum. a 3 star day ... 6 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 145 ... no late night eating ... 104 days in a row and another new world record !
the scale stayed down, so i updated current weight. in a previous post i outlined the foods that i rely on to keep myself in a calorie deficit. just thought i would expand on 'what i eat' in case anyone is interested. my "guilty pleasures", or "permitted treats" whatever you want to call them are : sushi, canned pork and beans, prunes, ground beef, and muffins/croissants. all of these are high calorie foods so i try hard to limit my intake of them, but they all provide much-needed fibre ... so there's that. they also provide some welcome variety ... so there's that as well. the plan for today ... same as yesterday ... minimize snacking and drink 4 glasses of water minimum. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 7 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 146 ...
no late-night eating ... 105 days in a row and another new world record ! nothing much to report. glorious spring weather forecast for the next week or so, so boredom should not be an issue. will need to stay on top of my water intake though. water is my friend. a 3 star day ... 8 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 147 ...
no late-night eating ... 106 days in a row and another new world record ! again, nothing much to report. the scale is being fussy again, but i know from experience that stringing together a bunch of 3 star days will eventually force it to move in the right direction. the plan for today ... stay the course. a 3 star day ... 9 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 148 ...
no late-night eating ... 107 days in a row and another new world record ! it occurs to me that i always write these entries immediately after having had a nice breakfast. i wonder what the tone would be like if i wrote them as i was experiencing a middle-of-the-night longing for a snack . i am not about to find out because if i chose to do that it would only prolong the urge, which usually subsides within a minute or so. i think i have been eating too many canned beans. this is high-calorie stuff and i think it's really cutting into my calorie deficit. there's no more in the cupboard and i am going to avoid them for a couple of weeks; substituting a salad or cooked veggies instead. a 3 star day ... 10 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
Congrats :cheer2: on being 25 lbs down and your personal world record of no late night eating! :bravo:
|
thanks, vermont mom !
day 149 ... no late-night eating ... 108 days in a row and another new world record ! got thrown out of my normal 'routine' a bit yesterday and when that happens, the first thing to suffer is water intake. i did manage to get the last 2 glasses into me before bed, however. the scale is still being obstinate but i do expect it to respond soon as i am surely running a calorie deficit. the plan for today ... stay the course ! a 3 star day ... 11 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN (barely); clean eating ... WIN. |
day 150 ...
no late-night eating ... 109 days in a row and another new world record ! gorgeous weather. water is my friend. stupid scale ! haven't had any beans or prunes for a couple of days now. did have some sushi 2 nights ago, other than that, the food has been fairly spartan and snacking has been under control. staying the course. a 3 star day ... 12 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 151 ...
no late-night eating ... 110 days in a row and another new world record ! scale inched downwards a bit; always a good thing. the incredible streak of great weather continues; always a good thing. starting to realize that apples are not my thing. they are a good source of fibre, and it's not that i DIS-like them, it's just that there are many fruits that i prefer. also realizing that i very much DO like a raw spinach salad with bits of bacon and hard-boiled egg ... yummm ! staying the course. may indulge in a bit of ground beef tonight if i find time to go out and buy some. a 3 star day ... 13 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 152 ...
no late-night eating ... 111 days in a row and another new world record ! since mid-nov, when i started taking charge of what i put in my mouth, i have had very little read meat, focusing instead on skinless chicken and white fish. am now realizing that one doesn't HAVE TO have meat or fish at dinner-time ... who knew ? eggs are my friend; some people are allergic but i seem to be able to eat 2 at breakfast and then, 2 more at dinner with no ill effects. i don't do this often, but i have done it often enough to know that it's not an issue for me. a 3 star day ... 14 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 153 ...
no late-night eating ...112 days in a row and another new world record ! was tempted again last night, as i am EVERY night, but last night quite a bit more so than usual, probably because i was having trouble falling asleep. got through it, and the scale seems to be making up for staying frozen for the first half of april, so all is well. great weather, plenty to keep me busy and i should be in-line for a covid vaccine very soon. a 3 star day ... 15 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 154 ...
no late-night eating ... 113 days in a row and another new world record ! on a roll, firing on all cylinders, already at goal for april after (apparently) not losing a single pound in the first 2 weeks of the month. the plan for today ... stay the course. a 3 star day ... 16 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
day 155 ... no late-night eating ... 114 days in a row and another new world record !
stoopid scale arbitrarily tossed a pound back on me that i didn't deserve ... whateva ! staying the course, working the plan. a 3 star day ... 17 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |

day 156 ...
no late-night eating ... 115 days in a row and another new world record ! vermont mom ... thanks for checking in me. good question too, well worth answering in my blog. my "aha" moment came in mid november 2020. i had stepped on the scale and jumped off in dismay when i saw 209 lbs. my weight was clearly going steadily in the wrong direction; but there's a bit more to it ... in the previous 7 days i had consumed 6 apple pies ... by myself. .. 8" apple pies. it was clear to me that i was, to put it mildly, using food as comfort or, to put it more starkly, using it as one would use a drug ... to feel good, not for nutrition at all. i had to take charge. for previous weight loss attempts i had got caught up in the "atkins" (now, apparently re-packaged as "keto") and juicing fads. out of this, 2 things became readily apparent ... just about any "diet", if adhered to, will produce weight loss, some more rapidly than others. the trick is to eat in a manner that you can live with, long-term. no way on earth was i going to "juice" every 6 months or so to get my weight down and keto was, for me, a totally unsustainable way of eating. in my humble opinion, weight-watchers had it right all along and, while i am not a member and never will be, nor do i count "points" i am keenly aware of the calorie load of most food. a 3 star day ... 18 in a row. night-time eating ... WIN; water intake ... WIN; clean eating ... WIN. |
