I have been overweight since I was around 8 or 9. Became a vegitarian for 3 years, made it worse. Suffered from it all my teenage years and here I am a big oaf at 26. I have bouts of high activity mixed with low. Being a student also means I have to spend a lot of time studying.
  • Scotsgal, congrats on locating a new apartment and for pushing through even though you didn't feel so great!

I did 50 minutes at the track this evening. Not sure if you can make it out in the image but my reward was two deer!

    001.jpg

I won't be able to walk tomorrow because I have a commitment until late into the evening but I will focus on my diet.

    Terra1984, how did you do?

  • My legs burn so bad!
So apparently that hill was bigger than I thought. By xmas I will have legs of a goddess, or just huge muscely trunks. Either way I dont mind lol.

I have also learned that writing replys to this forum from my rubbish Iphone4s means that I cannot press any of the right letters by the looks of my last 2 posts. Spelling error city!

I was up early this morning so I started the day with a bigger bowl of porridge (hot oatmeal) than usual AND toast. But now its 16:35(4:35pm) and I have just had my first stomach grumble.... not so bad.

I have walked a lot today just helping my sister do some house work. I have been lifting my baby nephew (6mo) around who just weighed in today at 17.9lbs, Little chub that he is. Lifting him above your head for 10 minutes straight is a proper work out lol. I have also been chasing my 6yrold neice around the garden.

I am away out for dinner to a families house and I had to check on the bathroom builders and stuff so I knew that getting 20mins of actually "classified workout" was going to be difficult. So I did my best to keep my heart rate up and keep moving for as long as possible.

Here are some lovely bathroom progress pictures to keep you entertained...

  • Hi everyone,

I'd like to join too! it seems the more active I am on these forums, the more focus I stay.

    Stats:

    34 Years Old
    Female
    Married with 4 boys
    Sunny California
    Profession: Office Manager
Current Weight: 191.1 lbs (Started 197)
    Goal Weight: 125 lbs

I already posted this on the MF thread too and decided to cut/paste.
As a working wife, mother of 4 boys varying from 22 to 6 (oldest is a stepson), and a caretaking daughter (mom had a stroke and is disabled). After giving birth to my youngest 6 years ago, I just couldn't shed off the weight like I did in the past. My weight just kept climbing up the scale even past my heaviest at 9mos pregnant.
It was especially harder after I started reporting to my current boss, who stress eats and feeds her team on a continuous basis. Not to mentioned I am salaried and tied to the hip with her. I can't go for walks like I used to on my breaks because we have urgent issues at hand (office operations). I gained at least a total of 30lbs in the time I've been under her supervision. She packs food for us or buys from the building deli and we eat at our desks - working through lunch.
My family? Well, I go to my mom's after work, help with cleaning, cooking then feeding. Then I go home and cook for my boys. Which boys are hefty eaters and won't settle for a salad. Along, the way I took way too many "samples"! I know I can't blame anyone else but myself but they are the true reasons as to why I am the way I am.
Being so unhappy with my weight and with my health spiraling out of control, I decided to do some research. Along the way of trying to find a solution, I found information on Medifast. Here I am, 6 days into the 5&1 program and -6lbs!
Exercising? I haven’t done any for about 7 months now. Not even walking. The dietician OK’d me to start walking 3x a week for 30mins each this week and I think I’m ready to do it today, hopefully! I’ll keep you all posted.

A few thoughts: I have 3 pedometers (hate using: bulky), myfitnesspal (not very useful right now due to MF) & want a fitbit, but the husband wants to get the iwatch instead. still researching to see if it's worth the buy.
  • @Scotsgal, I'm in the middle of a house remodel too! We moved in last year and have been renovating one room at a time. In middle of painting my 6yo's room! I should be done painting by this weekend. Next is moving my hallway to make room for my walk-in bedroom closet! Remodel is part of why I haven't been exercising much. I come home, cook, eat, clean and start renovating. Cycle starts all over, everyday.
  • My mini goals for this week are to just work out more and stay at 1200 calories a day.

I'm another one that's been overweight for a very long time, certainly all of my adult and teen life , and have been a 'yoyo' dieter since the age of 13 when I joined weight watchers with a family member. I reached my highest weight aged 21, when I was 298lbs (I may have tipped 300 at one point). Last autumn I managed to get down to 284, and then fell off the wagon again. I was very pleased to discover that, when I weighed myself a few weeks ago, not only had I kept that weight off but i'd lost another pound. This was extremely bolstering for me - it meant my good habits had somewhat stuck. I decided to use this as leverage and get back on the horse, hopefully going for my goal weight this time and lowest weight as a teen or adult (lowest adult weight 200lbs aged 15, after losing 42lbs with WW).

My main obstacles are very high generalised anxiety, obsessive tendancies and portion control. But i'm gonna kick butt anyway

I have broken my big goal into lots of manageable pieces, my first mini goal being that I hope to have lost 10% of my body weight (28lbs) by my birthday (Sept 25th). I have already lost five and I have 10 weeks more to do it, so I'm optimistic! I am eating 1200 calories a day, and trying to limit my sodium intake as much as possible (That little likes to retain water on me ). I am using shakes for two meals, and good food choices for the other two (gives me less umming and arrring to do ) but ensuring i get all macronutrients in.

Also, i'm not really a cat. Sorry But don't tell anyone.

Hope you're all doing well today!
  • Welcome LadyVWJ

Hopefully we can all keep each other on track! It will be really hard bringing up 4 boys when it comes to diet.... My brother refuses to eat anything "leafy". He needs hardy meals and my mum just goes for the quickest option. This means I am the cook in the house, I am also the shopper in the house, but that doesnt make anything easy. We do not have much money and it basically means I buy for them and try my best to save as much as possible to afford fresh veggies and fruit for me.

Your boss isnt exactly providing a great working environment and that too will also be like salt in the wounds. I think you will really need to work hard on mentally preparing yourself to say no to people. The temptation will be very very high. I wish you the best of luck and hope you have the strength for it. But to add to your "I havnt exercised in 7mo" I think youll find you have lol, the amount of calories burned by painting and vaccuming and gardening, is possibly higher than a 10 minute run. It all works as Cardio. Just when you go to cut the grass, either stick some weights on or do it faster to pick up your heart rate. When you are painting, also go a little faster, break a proper sweat. It will also help get it done faster, but stick some music on and use it to your advantage and make it your work out. It will work.

Terra: Thats a great goal.. how are you going so far?
  • Welcome MsTibbles

We really are growing now and that is awesome!!!

MsTibbles: Our stories are pretty similar, so it would be great to push each other along the way. However I could never do a shake diet, tried it and I failed epically. I have seen it really work for people though and I hope you do fantastic on it.

I have taken on instead of a diet, more of a life style change. I am eating more veggies and fruit when possible. I eat as much protein as I can and do my best to make the best possible decision when eating on the go. My calorie intake changes everyday. Sometimes its 1350, sometimes its 1800, the plan though is to make sure that I do not go over the 1800.
  • Scotsgal ~ Its going good so far, I've lost 3 pounds since re-starting on Sun.

BeEffective ~ Yeah the reason why I said 3rd time is because I've tried twice before but I know what your saying
  • Scotsgal - Thank you! I previously tried the Cambridge diet which is all shakes and powdered soups, and I totally fell to pieces after a few days. The main thought being "I can't do this for the rest of my life!" and I was dang right. But I do respond well to having strict, solid choices, so I am trying it half and half to see how that works out. It totally has to be sustainable, even for maintenance, so I am hoping that through doing this I will gain portion control knowledge, learn to eat less and not have such a big focus on food, whilst still being able to enjoy treats on special occasions. Time will tell Thank you for the welcome!
  • Wow thats fantastic Terra!! well done!! Thats a huge development...

I am going to pop in to town tomorrow to weigh in so that I know if I need to kick my own *** in gear for the next few days in order to get that 4lbs off by saturday lol. Technically my mini goal is to be at 300lbs by Sunday when the Christening is.... But it is saturday I really want to log in. I need to keep under 1800 cals to loose roughly 2lbs a week apparently. Twice this week I have been 1900 and once was 1400. So I am hoping that this just evens out a bit lol

    Ms Tibbles:
Thats great. Let us know how it goes. When is your usual weigh in day? I go to Boots (A bit like CVS for those Americans) to use the machine, I started using it years ago with a mate as we were loosing weight to go on holiday. So I know that it is the most suatainable machine I have used. It might cost be 70p each visit but Its worth it.
  • Ladyvwj- Welcome! So glad you’re here.

If you can’t decline the boss’s offer of constant food without it adversely impacting your job, I would just order a very simple salad with dressing on the side, eat half and save the rest for lunch the next day. This way when your manager pushes for you to eat more food the next day you can say thanks so much but I’m still working on that wonderful salad from yesterday. You’re just going to have to cut the portions way down without drawing attention to what you are doing. If you have a group health plan that offers additional discounts for participating in certain fitness initiatives, you should sign up for it as an extra incentive.

I’m not familiar with Medifast but if it works for you then stick with it. I am using Fitbit again. I use the Fitbit One as it discretely attaches on my pants under my shirt without any bulk. If you are highly analytical, it’s a good tool because you actually track all of your activity online (intake, burn, peak levels in exercise, etc) and it gives you graphs to see your progress, etc. The drawback is that it’s not cheap to purchase and you have to be 100% disciplined about taking it off and setting it in the same place every night or you will lose it (say in the laundry). My neighbor has replaced his 3 times and I have replaced mine twice from misplacing it. The wristband option is too bulky, you can feel it and it’s not fashionable if you have to dress professional for work.

MsTibbles – Thank you for joining us! Love your aviator. Big goal in lots of manageable pieces sounds like a great plan.

Terra1984 – Awesome you have set a mini goal!
  • May I join in? I really need to have other folks around me who are exercising and keeping me honest.

    My stats:
    48 years old
    Female
    Married 19.5 years
    4 kids ranging from 8 to 18
    Location: Southeastern Pennsylvania, USA
    Profession: Homemaker
    Start Weight: 214
    Current Weight: 178
    Goal Weight: 140

I spent the first 30 years of my life being regular weight to quite thin. Probably too thin. The thing that got me fat was my horrible pregnancies. I would vomit around the clock and lose tons of weight while pregnant. Then as soon as I gave birth, my metabolism was shot and I'd gain weight rapidly. With my youngest (premie) son, I actually lost more than 30 pounds over the 7 months I was pregnant with him.

I believe I've found a way that I can eat for the rest of my life, but I really need motivation to get exercising. The more I exercise the more I lose. I have a fitbit and I try really hard to get 10000 steps in each day. I also try to do Pilates a few times a week. My weight from day to day goes up and down, but overall the trend is down.

My first mini-goal is to not be obese! I'm aiming for just being overweight and I only have 6 more pounds to go. I'd like to be solidly under that 172 mark by October when my niece gets married.

    I weigh myself every morning.
  • Treasa WELCOME!!!!!

I think a lot of people struggle to exercise, some of it is time in the day (maybe due to long working hours) but some people just really struggle to find the motivation and that really is an issue with most people. Hitting that 10,000 steps a day is really a great goal. Then when you miss out on some throughout the week, take yourself on a day off a long walk to gain them back up again. Its great!!

I have a friends wedding on the 4th of October so I can see why you have made it a nice goal. Its 11 weeks away for me... I can imagine at somepoint I will also Plateau so I have made the goal of loosing 15lbs In hope of me staying on track with this week. So hopefully I hit the 300's on Saturday and then I plan on hitting 285 by the 4th of Oct.

    WE CAN DO THIS!!!

We stuck in a mini challange for the week to try our best to get 20 minutes of exercise in per day. Now this can be classified as anything really that raises your heart rate enough to be actually classified as burning calories.

Good luck and I hope you can keep us updated
