Daily Accountability/Lifestyle Change - November 2014 - Everyone Welcome!
Hello Everyone! Welcome to the Check-In! Let's make it a great month!
I want to welcome everyone to the Daily Accountability Check-In. Our goal is to stay accountable and on track by posting our daily food and exercise choices. All food and exercise programs are welcome. Consistency is the key to reaching our weight loss goals.
Introduce yourself or jump right in and tell us what you have been doing.
Everyone check in! Who made it into the new month? I hope no one was left behind or eaten by the ghosts, goblins, or zombies.
I didn't add on any yoga last night. I might try to do something today. I suspect I won't do anything tonight since we will be out late.
I am looking forward to the fair but dreading my weigh in. Hopefully I can do better than previous years.
I didn't have a second day gain from the birthday dinner and cake. That is very unusual for me but I am so glad about that.
Calories for yesterday: 1340 +
Weigh In: 165.2
No Change
CoolMom Awesome news about your Mom. Hopefully they can get her on some meds and it will clear up the pneumonia. Sending good thoughts for your family.
Flower What are your thoughts on OA? (overeaters anonymous) I have read/heard they are very strict with sugar/carb type foods. I feel this type of thing would be really good for me, but my inner child says "I don't wanna".
The Halloween Party last night was crazy. I will post a pic later. My toe and leg are still sore. I did run yesterday. The scarey thing is I think I know what it could be. Based on my lifestyle factors, I am a prime candidate for gout. I drink (a lot), I am close to ketosis (gave up the honey), I am very active and I eat a lot of protein and foods that are high in purines (sardines, seafood). These are all incredible risk factors for gout and I think I may have that (my dad used to get it).
So...and I hate to say this...the beer gets the chop. Dang. It was all going so well.
We had record high temps this week. Today we are looking at record low's for our high. We are suppose to be in the 40's all day with a wind advisory. I'm sure the wind chill will be in the 30's. I will freeze to death at the fair! I will have to wear my big coat and gloves. I usually try to wear something cute since we don't go out often. I don't guess you worry about cute when you are just trying to stay warm.
Ian Oh my! That makes perfect sense. My DH has gout. I remember one holiday, it was so bad that he went to the ER. The pain was so bad that he couldn't wait to go to the Dr. the next day. When his sugar gets too high it can cause flare ups, too. It's like any major change can cause issues for him. Look into tart cherry and celery. One of the medications for gout is made from celery. You might be able to get some relief from one of these until you can get it under control. Of course seeing a Dr. is always best. Good luck! I know it is very painful condition to have.
Long story but I'm going through ex drama yet again this week and I'm feeling very frustrated and depressed. Good news is my extra weight is coming off from the stress.
I have noticed that my back is getting sore again, since I haven't done my back therapy yoga or my regular stretching in a couple of days. So I just finished up: Low Back Therapy from Gary Kraftsow's Viniyoga Therapy for the Low Back, Sacrum and Hips and Debbie Siebers Slim & Limber.
Ian Great picture! Looks like you had a lot of fun!
Novangel I'm sorry about that extra stress. Hang in there.
CoolMom Great job on the .4! It's our anniversary month, too! Ours is on the 19th. It will be 26 years! DH literally stole me from my Mama's arms at my birth.
DH left early this morning to go do some work at the farm. He just returned and informed me that there are areas about 1 hour away that are getting snow showers. What? He said he heard a report that if things don't clear up quick enough we might get a few flurries, too. Ok, so I don't do cold weather, OK? The weather channel is in the NC/SC mountains reporting the big snow there. I didn't hear anything about the area that's an hour away or our potential of getting anything. I guess this wasn't expected. We probably won't get anything but I guess the local people are just warning everyone. It's still raining off and on here, wind blowing and in the 40's. I'm thinking I will wear my rain boots to the fair. I'm sure it will be a mud fest. I already bought our tickets at a discount. I'm thinking, get in there, get an elephant ear and get out. Hmm, maybe a corndog since I haven't had one of those in a year.
If you had to write down my diet it would be this. DANG!
I hope the beer does the trick.
Diet and Gout - Topic Overview
Purines (specific chemical compounds found in some foods) are broken down into uric acid. A diet rich in purines from certain sources can raise uric acid levels in the body, which sometimes leads to gout. Meat and seafood may increase your risk of gout. Dairy products may lower your risk.
Foods to limit (very high in purines):
•Organ meats, such as liver, kidneys, sweetbreads, and brains
•Meats, including bacon, beef, pork, and lamb
•Game meats
•Any other meats in large amounts •Anchovies, sardines, herring, mackerel, and scallops
•Gravy •Beer
Foods to eat occasionally (moderately high in purines, but may not raise your risk of gout):
•Fish and seafood (other than high purine seafood) •Oatmeal, wheat bran, and wheat germ
Foods that are safe to eat (low in purines):
•Green vegetables and tomatoes
•Fruits
•Breads and cereals that are not whole-grain
•Butter, buttermilk, cheese, and eggs
•Chocolate and cocoa
•Coffee, tea, and carbonated beverages
•Peanut butter and nuts
Dairy products that may lower your risk of gout:
•Low-fat or nonfat milk
•Low-fat yogurt
If you have experienced a gout attack or have high uric acid in your blood (hyperuricemia), it may help to reduce your intake of meat, seafood, and alcohol.
Changing your diet may help lower your risk of having future attacks of gout. Doctors recommend that overweight people who have gout reach and stay at a healthy body weight by getting moderate exercise daily and regulating their fat and caloric intake.
Just starting out (again!) and figure the beginning of the month is a good time to do so.
I've been doing My Fitness Pal, but fizzle out half-way through the week.
Posting my weight losses (and gains if that happens) will be a good accountability for me.
Many thanks
coolmom, I'm a November birthday too! In fact, my birthday is tomorrow and even though I'm brand-new to this weight loss wagon, I'm loosening up a little bit on my birthday. But I chose a sushi restaurant for my celebrations,so my "loosening up" is basically on the sodium front (which will have a nasty effect on my weigh-in Monday mornings.
In general my plan for this week is to go shopping for groceries later tonight. I'm planning my meals ahead of time for the nights that I cook at home (I work evenings and eat a work-provided meal). I've got a few healthy meals and snacks planned to keep me going through the week. My goal, which may seem silly, is NO FAST FOOD. I reach for fast food as a comfort when I'm feeling down or bored and I need to break that habit.
I'm easing myself into exercise as well. Right now my exercise plan is 30 minutes of walking each weekday. Most of that is achieved through the walk to my train station and back.
Finishing the day at 1160 cals. Also I started the 30 day squat challenge. My knees are not so good but we'll see. I needed to start something!
Ian, good luck with the juice. 15qts?? I'm glad you like it.
Flower, good luck with the sugar break. I'm sure the three pounds will come right off. You are good to be able to recognize the slippery slope and put the brakes on. Thanks for the kind words about my mom and my birthday isn't until the 11th. Veterans day.
Bekkat, welcome and good luck with your weightloss goals!
Treatyoself, I love the name and, of course have to say it in the same voice. Ha! Happy birthday and enjoy the sushi!!!! Mine is on the 11th and I was kinda thinking sushi too and maybe sake.
