From what I've read, standing burns more calories than sitting. Also, not sure if it's just me or not, but standing makes me shift my weight around, so even though it's small, I'm moving more than when I would just be sitting. I have been using a Fitbit to measure my activity, and there are some days I'm shocked at how much I've walked without even realizing it.
I'm going to be starting a new job in two weeks, and it's going to be a desk job. One of the things that has me really excited though is that I get an hour for lunch, and I hope to be able to get a short 20-30 minute walk around the parking lot most days.
