Standing or Walking in Place While Working
Has anyone seen any benefits to their weightloss when standing or moving in place at their desk instead of sitting all day?
I work from home most of the time so I'm going to start trying to stand at my desk or walk in place for at least half of my work day to get in some extra movement. |
From what I've read, standing burns more calories than sitting. Also, not sure if it's just me or not, but standing makes me shift my weight around, so even though it's small, I'm moving more than when I would just be sitting. I have been using a Fitbit to measure my activity, and there are some days I'm shocked at how much I've walked without even realizing it.
I'm going to be starting a new job in two weeks, and it's going to be a desk job. One of the things that has me really excited though is that I get an hour for lunch, and I hope to be able to get a short 20-30 minute walk around the parking lot most days. |
Not an expert, but it sounds like it would be much better than sitting. I also sometimes add calf lifts- where i go up and down on my toes. Really works calf muscles.
