Proud of myself

  • I haven't written much, or at all since my post, but I've recently been gifted a treadmill. My last post stated how much I hated walking, well ever since I got the treadmill, all I've been doing is going on it... So I've lost about 6 lbs or so. I'm so proud of myself. I hate going to the gym too because everyone there seems to be so fit and whatnot. So I've decided since I have the room, I'm making myself an exercise room! I bought a bikini that I hung on my wall for motivation, and I'm going to be taking a photo of myself and hanging it right beside it. I'll do anything to lose weight because I'm sick and tired of being that fat girl that everyone looks at and makes fun of. People suck.
  • Awesome on the 6 pounds!!! I know how you feel, I hate working out around other people. I always feel like I am being judged, plus my face turns bright red when I am working out (family trait). So, I do it in the comfort of my home. I won't lie and say that I LOVE doing workout videos, but once I am done, I always feel so much better. I have a shirt I bought some years back at Disney World. It hangs on the wall to remind me why I want to lose weight. I want so bad to fit into that shirt again!!! Keep up the good work and enjoy your exercise room!
  • The fear of working out in front of people is one I hear here often. Just last night, out of the blue, my sister made this post on FB:

"Just want to give a shout out and an other "Good Job" to the plus size runner that I crossed paths with twice and was running both times. You are my hero of the week."

I've been thinking, for all those voiced and imagined criticisms, I'm betting there's far more silent "good for you's" being expressed in the minds of everyone else. In fact, I'm nearly certain of it.

That is an awesome post, just awesome. I have always felt that the LAST PLACE ON EARTH someone overweight should feel embarrassed at is a gym. Now a buffet, maybe. But a gym? That's like someone with a broken leg being embarrassed going to a doctor. Or someone trying for a new career being embarrassed going back to school. You are DOING something about it.

Anyone judging someone overweight at a gym has to have rocks in their head. That being said I think it is mostly in ourselves. People frankly don't really care much about you, too caught up in their own lives. 10 seconds after noticing you, you probably won't exist to them much.
  • An exercise room sounds awesome. It's like a personal gym! I wish you all the best with it
  • Congratulations!
I know gyms can be intimidating. I'm proud of you for creating an alternative and making it work for you! Way to go!

On the note of that quote, I distinctly remember a plus-size woman running at my old gym. She was the reason I believed I might be able to do it, and the reason I started to. I never told her the impact she made on me, but that was the first time in my life I started running for exercise, and it was wonderful. I know from personal experience how hard it can be to step in that gym, to step outside, or to give weight loss a go (for many folks, 'yet again'). So, whenever I see a larger person exercising, I regard them with admiration and a sense of "good for you". It's not easy to face a lot of weight gain, whatever the approach. I definitely applaud anyone who chooses to do so! But I never say it. I guess I'm one of the silent cheerleaders out there. I, too, like to believe there are many of us.
  • Congratulations!!!!

I'm totally addicted to my treadmill, it is my BEST friend, and I am on that treadmill raring to go 5 out of every 7 days. I turned my office into my workout room and I adore it!

    I'm so happy for you!
  • So jealous! I wish I had my own treadmill. I walk on one at the gym, and read when doing so. Try it. It makes time fly! And, I use one that has a "hills" program so it goes up and down in incline to give you a better workout. If yours does this, it's a great way to test yourself and see how much stronger you're getting as you move up in levels. Have fun!
  • Thanks so much everyone. I've found a partner now to go swimming with as well, so I think she's going to go to the gym with me too! It's a very small gym, where hardly anyone uses, so I may give it a go!
