I drink water throughout the night since I work graveyard shifts most of the time. Weighing myself is a struggle...Some nights I go without any liquids just to weigh myself and get the correct number. It's a pain in the butt.
....Anyone have any advice or tips on water weight??
What about weighing in less often? Like once or twice a week? I get a lot of water retention and I just weight less often. I normally weight when I "feel" like I'm not retaining water.
I was always told the more water you drink the less you retain...
I drink a ton of water throughout the day but I haven't noticed this being an issue. I weigh myself when I wake up (after the bathroom). I don't wake up during the night to drink much and I always have to pee when I get up so I figure I'm as "empty" as possible first thing in the morning.
Why don't you just weigh yourself when you wake up, whatever time that is for you?
I weigh every day but I only record on Fridays. I know your weight can fluctuate so I try to take an average. If all week my weight has been 315/316 but Friday comes and it's 318 I log either log 316 or wait a day or 2.
Most of your body is made up of water, so there is no "correct" weight without it!! My advice would be to not worry about it. Drink whatever water is comfortable.
Then weigh yourself at the same time of day with the same scale and the same amount of clothing. While the scale might be a little higher the first time, if you weigh under the same conditions you will be comparing apples to apples so to speak and it will not be an issue.
But know that the biggest fluctuations in all of our weigh ins are due to water. You cannot escape the fluctuations.
What you are doing is dehydrating yourself to get a lower number. That isn't what you really weigh. You do the normal things every day and then weigh. Why such focus on the scale to begin with? How you feel, how your clothes fit, what foods you are eating are a better measure of success than an arbitrary number.
I weigh more when I don't drink water because that is when I really retain copious amounts. I agree with weighing whenever you wake up, same time and same circumstances each time!
I agree with weighing whenever you wake up, same time and same circumstances each time!
And I might add that it all evens out in the end. There's only so much water you can retain. Say you weigh yourself when you've retained your personal maximum. At the next weigh-in, even if you're still retaining to the max, the difference in figures will reflect your actual progress.

I work night shift. I wake up and weigh myself. I have noticed I have more weight if I wake up earlier for another shift. But I always wake up, void, and weigh. Then I can drink everything I want.
Now if you are weighing in at a WW meeting or something, just drink everything you can, pee before you go in and just accept the number. Don't dehydrate yourself!
