Where in CA are you? I grew up in San Diego and went to college in Santa Cruz. While in college, I gained weight because of the huge change in lifestyle! Let me know where you're located, I might be able to help you with better food choices and living without a fridge!
How about starting with some snacks that don't need refrigeration? I keep my bananas, apples, and grapefruits all on the counter. I used to bring tuna packs (nothing else added) to work for lunch, they just needed a fork so I could eat them! Plus almonds/other nuts and certain granola bars help me through the day.
I used to have a huge fear of hunger, too

I would eat before I left the house, even if I wasn't hungry, in case I would be hungry later. I've had to learn that some hunger is okay, and I won't get super uncomfortable just because I'm hungry for a few hours. I hope you find a routine that works for you!
