As others have mentioned age really factors into this too. When I turned several years ago I joined WW and thought they made a mistake with how few points they said I could have. They said research is showing after mid 50s women in particular need much less food. I thought they were nuts but as time went on and I tried other methods I unfortunately found out that was right.
The problem is muscle turns to fat as we get older, more each year.
The secret is to build up muscle when you are younger and keep up that form of exercise as you get older.
