Darn Easter baskets

  • I'm unfortunately with BerryBlondeBoys. I'm visiting relatives for the weekend. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the home was the foot-tall canister full of chocolate eggs and Reese's peanut butter eggs in the living room. Shoot! The kids (and the adults) also got lots of candy in the Easter baskets. On top of that, every meal has been decadent and calorie laden. I have 240 calories left for the day and we are going to have Chinese food for dinner. Shoot!
  • Wow, I never even saw an Easter egg "in the flesh" this year. Never went close enough to one in the shops to hold or even sniff one. They are soooo expensive anyways!!! Like $10 (AU) for a measly 200g of chOc!!
  • I made Easter "buckets" for my daughter and niece with bubbles, bunny ears, stuffed animals, snow globes, Easter hats, pencils, and even a carrot mini golf set. I added in candy, of course, but they are not the kinds that tempt me.

My mom did bring over a bunch of candy that I like (Reeses eggs, Reeses mini-eggs, and kit kats) so I bagged it up along with some of the candy my daughter got (she had too much really) and brought it to work for the communal candy basket this morning.

    Done and done.
  • While I wish that the jar of Jelly Belly jelly beans had never entered the house (you know, the gazillion pound size from Costco), I did pretty well. Waited until close to Sunday to buy the candy, then managed to not eat any until I started making up the baskets. I had a couple of the miniature Hershey pieces, but that was it........and about 30 jelly beans. Considering that I used to have to buy the candy twice (and one year, 3 times.....), this was tremendous progress. And I want my grands to have the same wonderful memories of the holidays that I have. And my memories are of the thrill of getting my Easter basket and knowing there would be a chocolate bunny inside.
  • I allowed myself a small amount of indulgence built into my plan then left it alone. If I didn't do it that way then I would have felt deprived and probably driven to the shop to get some all for myself.

My kids are trying to be so generous, though, that I have to be strong over and over again. I hope they finish soon!
  • Melissa: the bread looked wonderful!!! I think I would rather eat a loaf of bread over candy any day. Maybe I'm just overloaded from chocolate birthday cake. There's some left, but I no longer crave it--had lots yesterday and I think I'm over it now!
  • I was really BAD on Easter Sunday (yesterday). I went to my favourite Belgian chocolate shop and got a bag of chocolate-hazelnut-stuffed eggs, of which I ate seven. The owners are from Belgium and they make the best chocolate I've ever had. I knew I'd be starting a lower-carb regimen today, so I succumbed to the "starting tomorrow" mentality by getting my carbs in while the coast was still clear. Kinda pathetic, but there you have it.

    F.
  • No Easter candy for me. While I was visiting my mother she had her friend's kids over for a little hunt and after they collected all of their chocolate I joking yelled out "JUST LET ME SMELL ONE!"... needless to say they looked at me funny, but I got a good laugh out of it.
