So discouraged :(

  • I would take measurements then. You could be getting smaller, but is not reflecting on the scale due to weight training. Also....it's two weeks in. You may be gearing up for a big ole whoosh!
  • I have taken measurements and that hasn't changed either.
  • Ok, we'll then....I shall keep my fingers crossed 4u then
  • Frustration sometimes lessen our motivation but we must overcome it because achieving our goal is what really counts.
  • Aside from the data that the scale and measuring tape are showing you, are you feeling better? Feeling better about being active, sleeping any better? Do you feel proud that you're doing what your body needs and wants? Feel good that you're committed to doing better and are following through? Maybe continue on but don't check the scale and get your reinforcement from your ability to do more, exercise longer, feel better. Make sure that you're eating the way that you can continue eating - that it's a life change, not a majorly restrictive diet.

Good luck - I know it's frustrating but you're doing what you need to do! It's only two weeks and with any added activity, our muscles will retain water ... many quality trainers recommend that those starting out in exercise do not weigh for 5-6 weeks. It's common that the scale doesn't reflect the effort early on.
  • I feel so selfish for complaining about this. I'm not goign to give up. And I do feel better about myself. I guess I just want one person to say 'Hey Remington, you look like you've lost some weight. You look awesome!'. I know it takes time. I just wasnt sure if I was doing thigns correctly. Maybe my muscles are just retaining water.

    I'll keep on keepin on.
As my uncle would say, "everything has to be some way, and that's the way that is." words I often live by.

    Thanks all !
  • TOM? Salt? Muscle gain vs fat loss? Been at it at least 21 days?
  • You are NOT selfish for complaining about this. It's very hard to put the effort in and not see any change, esp. right at the beginning. I give you lots of credit for sticking with it, and I hope your hard work gets a reward very soon!

TOM, no--in the middle of my cycle.
Salt, I've been trying my best to manage. I've cut out all processed foods (as much as humanly possible) as well as fast foods and packaged foods of any kind.
    21 days, no. 14 days.

Muscle gain my be attributing, I just thought i'd see SOMETHING on the measuring tape.
  • Also, some scales don't work very accurately at high weights. How good is your scale. you may just see a woosh some day .. and that could be your body just catching up and releasing extra water weight ... but it could be that the scales don't work as well at high numbers. I had a scale that seemed to only move in increments of five over 220 or so.
  • re:
I wish I could say if you eat x amount you will lose x every week. It's just simply not the case for the majority of people in the long haul.

There are times when you will stay completely on plan and lose nothing for 2 weeks, or LONGER. Many people find they tend to lose weight in "chunks", nothing for a good while then bam, 5 lbs in one day. It's your overall weight loss that matters.

While that's easy to understand, it's far from easy to keep it from discouraging you. That's really one of the keys to weight loss in my opinion, to keep going despite seeing no movement on the scale.

I wouldn't underestimate the power of days off plan as well. You said you ate over 1500 two days out of 2 weeks, if I understand correctly. Were those days way over in calories? Did they have a lot of carbs or salty foods? Any one of those things could be the cause of what you are seeing.

Just don't give up - I mean, what's the alternative?
  • The one day was probabaly way over. I'm going to guestimate around 2200 cals that day. Went to a chinese buffet and I only had one fried item (chicken sooguy, so good). But I made wise choices other than that. Had a sliver of birthday cake as it was my boyfriends, grandmothers 80th birthday.

The other time I didn't really go over per-se, just didn't make the wisest meal choices.
  • re:
    Oh man, Chinese food.

That does a number on my body as it's super high in sodium. It usually takes me a week to get the inevitable 4 lbs of water weight off.

    Maybe that's it hopefully.

Give it another week of what you're doing and you should see the first few lbs come off, but it can take up to six weeks for your body to readjust to the changes you're making and to release all the toxins, salt, retained water, and finally fat held in your cells.

You can do it! Hang in there, consistency is queen.
  • This might be a dumb question, but how long does "water weight" stay in the body ? Say hypothetically I ate a bag of salted chips. Now despite the fact that they're chips and they're bad for you.. the salt intake. how long would I hold onto that water ? Why am I drinking a ton of water if I'm ALREADY holding water weight?

Any tips to let go of the water weight.
