Default Pictures...

Does this happen to you all too? --I have lost 20lbs, but I still look huge in pictures.... I even compared before and after pics... I see a little bit of difference, but not that big of a difference... I would have thought 20 lbs would have been drastic... I won't get discouraged...I will keep on going!

I feel I always look big in photos, even now at goal. Photos have no depth so they do give the illusion of people being bigger in them.

I have had a ton of people who tell me I am tinier in person than in photos. Usually friends or family who haven't seen me in the flesh for a while but see my photos on FB.

Try different poses when taking a picture and try to find which pose you look thinner. You can try turning partially sideways to the camera, planting one foot in front of the other. Point your toe to the camera and place your weight on your back foot. It really works, you will look thinner in photos.

Exactly this. I always look bigger in photos. It takes dozens of photos before I can find one that I like (usually with me tilting my head, changing angles, tilting the head a bit more, no wait, the other way now etc.).

Weirdly enough, there are people who do look smaller in photos than in person but I figure they've either mastered the art of posing or are just standing next to someone comparatively bigger (why I think my sisters and mum always look so tiny next to me!).

I'm about 2 or 3 pounds away from having lost 20lbs and I can not really tell that big of a difference either :/ in fact I feel like my face got bigger, I do feel like I look a little bit slimmer in my clothes but I think back to when I was this weight a few years ago and I feel like I looked/was way smaller than I am now is it a mental thing? I don't know but I'm feeling kind of discouraged by it too

That's exactly the way it goes!!

A good pose is to let the picture be taken full front, but place one foot in front of the other. It angles your body in such a way to make you look slimmer. Also, if someone can take a picture from above, that's really good! I prefer the method of strategically making sure something is in front of me whenever possible.

And then you'll slim down and you'll like the pictures you see of yourself more and more, but there's always going to be a few that make you cringe and put you in a fat-day mood in a real hurry!

I know, it seems like 20 pounds should make a huge difference, but I think it's not until 30 or 40 before you really see a change in your photographs.

I still look awkward/overweight in most of my photos but just recently I've been able to notice the small differences between new and old photos. Specifically, my cheeks look less like chipmunk's. I didn't notice the changes until I gained about 10lbs back, though; I guess sometimes it takes a little distance to see the progress you've made (I don't recommend letting yourself backslide just to notice your great progress, though! ).

This is one of the reasons I started the 365 Days Self Portrait challenge on Flickr. To gain more confidence in front of the camera.

You take a photo of yourself everyday for a year. It has helped me a lot with confidence and photography aswell. I am up to Day 156 this time around, I have about 650+ photos all together from past attempts.

Wow really?? Glad to know I'm not along lol I would say I want to lose 20lbs more, maaaaybe 25 or 30, so I guess technically I'm halfway there but back when I was 162 I definately thought I'd see the difference :/ I don't, but I hope once I'm under 140 the change will be faster to see

What I have noticed is when people lose weight they still see that 20 pounds there but, everyone else can usually tell a big difference in your starting weight and your current weight.

I did not do the starting weight photos. I didnt even think of it until i came here. I take a picture of myself once a week to see if I can see a difference. However, when im in the mirror in my bathroom I think I look thicker than the pictures..lol then i will check the pictures out on my computer and say oh okay much better lol

Honestly it took me a LONG time to see changes in pictures.
Though the mirror is still my #1 enemy... (for some reason, my mirrors like to make me look over weight lol)

I honestly, just recently like what I look like in pictures. It took 70lb.... 70!! How crazy is that? I think that the poses have a lot to do with how pictures look (candid is horrid, but a nice pose turned to the side hand on the hip and stomach in works!)

Try some different poses, but I don't think it should be long until you see an amazing difference, 20lb is a great accomplishment!! xo
