changing habits - an weird NSV

  • I spent half my lunch hour walking then came back to the office and heated my lunch. I drank 20 oz of water before I took a bite, and just looked down and realized it took me more than 30 minutes to eat 1 1/2 cups of chili and a mini corn muffin.

In the past, I would have eaten mindlessly and not realized much/how fast I ate until I put the spoon in the bowl and found it empty. In the not too distant past I think I'd have polished this off in 5 minutes and been looking for more.

I complain a lot about how slow this process is. I still have a long way to go, but this time I think I'm actually learning to have a healthy relationship with food.

Are your eating habits (aside from your food choices) significantly different from when you started this journey?
  • Oh yes, I have changed a lot for the better; I am making much better choices these days. I too have learned to slow down and not eat so fast. This has helped my "you feel full now" signals kick in, so I don't want to eat more than I should.

I have changed the plate size we use and now we feel full with a much smaller amount of food. Like tonight, we used 7" plates for our dinner, and were quite satisfied. We often use bowls too; and it has had the same effect.
Your stomach can be trained to eat less; it just takes time.

I'm also able to get back on track sooner after a slip; I forgive myself and just keep going, no matter what. That goes for holidays or vacation days too. I have really noticed a significant difference over time.
