I make popcorn at home on the stove and it beats the pants off movie theater popcorn, so I don't buy their stale, nasty junk thank goodness! But I do intentionally allow myself some sweet tarts at the theater as a treat to go along with it, as it is my ritual. Not too caloric, not more than twice a year or so.
It's not the end of the world to have some junk at the movies, but do decide to do it and plan for it with eyes wide open, and make the occasions rare
Reese's Pieces are my movie snack. I'm going to see the The Hunger Games on Thursday and I am already working on talking myself out of buying them. (It doesn't help that my husband has declared that he will be eating Snow Caps.)

We went to see hunger games tonight. the last movie I went to was Harry potter deathly hallowa midnight release, and we shared a large popcorn with a refill..and a box of milk duds.
I lovvvvvveeeee movie theatre popcorn. But I didn't get any ! I ate until I was stuffed before leaving and I also popped myself and my fiancé ziplock baggies full of air popped corn in the microwave (130 calais vs 1000!). I didnt even eat that though ! we just shared a large diet coke. I REALLy did want a pickle though an they were sold out D:
I really think so many of these things in our lives are habits...
Like when I used to smoke, I couldn't IMAGINE there would be a time when I would never think about cigarettes again. 12 years later, it's laughable and horrifying to even imagine that I ever smoked.
Same with night snacking - I used to always have something in the evening after dinner. When I first stopped doing that, it really felt like there was something missing. I substituted herbal tea, which didn't feel as satisfying for a couple of weeks. Now I can't imagine eating something before bed - my habits have done a 180.
Luckily for me, theatre junk was never my habit. DH and I have 3 kids on one salary, so have had to be a little prudent with money for 10 years now or so. I could never stand paying $10 for a drink and popcorn to share... ridiculous. So we just don't, and to behonest, I don't even think about it. Even when I hear rustling and munching all around me.
Trust me, after you've switched your habits for a few movies, you won't ever think about the (insert junk) again!
I even sneak snacks in. At the Carmike Cinema movie theaters, every year they come out with a year long "popcorn bucket" that you can refill for about 3 bucks. It's a little bigger than a pail you would use at the beach to build a sandcastle. My mom LOVES popcorn, so she always brings it.
What do y'all do with the air popped popcorn? I don't know about y'all, but I can't stand plain popcorn. For me, the butter and salt is what makes it good! How do y'all season it so it's not so bland?
I love plain popcorn because I always hated the way the butter coated my mouth and left it greasy/waxy feeling.Plus I love the taste of straight up popcorn. (love raw, plain sunflower seeds too)
But! it do love salt and pepper on my popcorn. I air pop my popcorn and sometimes I'll salt and pepper if I feel I want some other flavor. They also have seasonings in the poppcorn area, like cheese, BBQ, kettle corn, ranch, ect. you just sprinkle it on.
Kettle corn is my weakness, good thing they don't have that at my movie theater.
What kind of calories does popcorn seasoning have? Not much, I would presume seeing as most spices and such don't have calories... I bet it's sodium dense, though.
I can't stand plain popcorn, either. I spray it with Pam really well and then salt it (sticks much better), just make sure to use butter flavor. I saw some specifically for popcorn in the popcorn isle the other day bit I don't know that its any different (and it cost more for less). Sometimes I'll put garlic salt, or some cheese nacho flavoring (I don't think it has calories? maybe a few?), or sometimes ill even sprinkle the pack of seasoning that comes with ramen noodles on it. woah salt though, lol.

I was never able to stomach plain popcorn before ... the more butter, the better!! Then one day I happened to see a giant two gallon jug of popcorn butter at Sam's...OMG! It was this disgusting thick, congealed orange MESS...literally a layer of solidified fat floating on the surface of semi-congealed liquified butter....that was literally the trigger for me, I couldn't even bring myself to eat the stuff anymore after seeing that
We started going to the drive-in theater when I was pregnant with my first child and couldn't sit still for very long. I was 9 months pregnant and was fidgety and running to the bathroom constantly. Now we have two kids and LOVE it! Not only do our kids not bother anyone, they can run around, talk or fall asleep and it's no big deal.
The upside for me is I can take whatever food I like. They have a restaurant there that plenty use but it's ALL fried and greasy. I took a turkey sandwich, carrots, banana, flavored rice cakes (which are divine!), etc. and had a great time. Not only do we save money bringing our own food, but it's free for the kids and $7 a person for two movies. LOVE LOVE LOVE our drive-in!!!!

You're definitely not the only one! My guilty pleasure are nachos with cheese. I simply can't watch a movie without snacking on something, it doesn't matter if I've just eaten a satisfying meal. Lately I've been trying to find healthier snack options or at least have my popcorn plain, with no added butter. I've also been having pumpkin seeds or walnuts.
i'm totally fine not even stopping at the concession. maybe just for a bottle of water. when i've gotten something (usually snow caps or gummy bears) i eat it before the damn movie starts anyway.
