Default Ice Cream Realization

I went out for supper with my neighbour last night and she ordered dessert - pumpkin pie (barf - thanksgiving is so not a problem for me ) so I thought "Well I'll order something too - something small. "

Ha ha! I went to the washroom and when I came back my ice cream sundae was waiting for me. What a monster! It was three huge scoops of ice cream in some kind of sugar bowl. Holy crap! I think I actually said "Holy Crap!" I knew right away that I didn't want it all but I thought okay I will have a little - I mean I ordered it and I was going to have to pay for it. So I tasted a little - Ugh so sweet! And I used to love ice cream. I ended up eating about a quarter of one scoop and then I just basically played with it until my neighbour was done her pie.

So my realization is this - ice cream tastes gross. I never thought I would say that. It was so sweet and then about an hour later my body said "Why you gonna to play me like that?" And I became bloated and farty and my stomach hurt and I kind of wanted to throw up. I haven't eaten ice cream in 3 months and now my body doesn't like it. I mean really doesn't like it.

So I guess the good news is it only cost me $7 dollars to find out that ice cream is on the no-fly list of things going into my mouth.

I gave up wheat about 2 weeks ago - and I feel way better - but do you think that there could have been wheat in the ice cream (who knows with additives!) or do you think that my body is just enjoying life without crap, or that I have some kind of rich food intolerance since I hardly ever eat it anymore? I don't think it's dairy per se as I can drink 1% milk just fine and I can eat cheese (I just don't ever eat very much of it in one sitting.)

Points to ponder I guess.

I'm to the point where my body can no longer handle sweet stuff. I attempted to have one chocolate chip cookie the other day and regretted it about 10 minutes later. I felt so sick. Same with soda now.

I am really envious of folks who find that this happens to them even after a short time of being on a healthy eating plan.

After more than two years on plan and more than 100 pounds gone, my favorite treats are still just as delicious to me as they always were! But enough people report this phenomenon that I know it must really happen for some fortunate people. I sure wish it happened for me!

You are not alone, Carter. I, too, still enjoy the same foods that I enjoyed prior to my committment to lose weight. But, then, again, I was/am sort of a foodie, so I have been eating quality foods for quite a while. It's not like I was snacking on Little Debbies before.

To the OP, I think it's great that you had that revelation! However, is it all "ice-cream"? Perhaps the ice-cream at that particular place is super sweet. As an avid lover of ice-cream, I know that I have to buy the premium brands if I'm going to really enjoy it. There are some restaurants where I live that serve crappy, icey-ice cream and others that serve homemade, rich, decadent ice-cream. Obviously, I'll eat the latter, but not the former.

It was the super rich good stuff - vanilla bean gelato - it was a pretty nice restaurant. And quite honestly after how I felt eating it last night - I can't even contemplate testing the theory on other ice creams

In a different thread someone commented that they discovered that they can no longer eat dairy and sugar together. Perhaps that's why ice cream didn't agree with you but milk and cheese are okay.

Noooo - NOT the ice cream!!!

But I know what you're talking about. The other day I accidentally grabbed hubs root beer from McDonald's instead of my unsweetened tea. Oh.MY! I used to LOVE fountain sodas from McDonald's - but one sip and I about jumped through the roof it was SO sweet.

I feel the same way about donuts.

Had a couple a few weeks ago and you know something, I didn't enjoy them as much as I thought I would - def. NOT worth the calorie burden I put myself under. Seriously, I thought they would taste better and wasn't expecting to feel sick afterwards. So it was a double whammy, average taste, and feeling physically ill afterwards. Hmmm...

My appetite has definitely gone way down too, to the point where I have to remind myself to eat what's in the fridge, ends up getting spoiled.

Are you sure it was the 1/4 scoop of ice cream that made you fell like crap, or the "main meal" you ate at this fine restaurant before ordering a dessert. What else did you eat/drink there?

I mean, if you thought you were ordering a tiny little dessert and a monstrosity of an ice cream sundae came out, what did your entree look like??

I still eat sweets occasionally, but do find that I don't find them as delicious as I once did and some stuff is just too sweet for my tastes these days.
I agree with Lori Bell it probably wasn't just the tiny bit of ice cream that you consumed, but was probably the overall meal.
On the bright side at least you can cross ice cream off your list of temptations.

I agree. Me too. After being on this journey for a while also, I can't think of anything I used to love pre-plan, that my body is like "ewww gross!" about now. Everything is as delicious, maybe even more so since they're not a regular part of my diet so I appreciate them more the occasions I eat them ! I genuinely wish my body was that discerning towards junk though; that would be awesome!!!

The main meal itself was roast chicken (about 8oz but I only ate half) roast fingerling potatoes and roast carrots and beets - all in reasonable portion amounts - it's one of those restaurants where there's a lot of white space on the plates! There was a sauce with the chicken so yes, it's possible that could have contributed to my inner turmoil. I am finding there are a number of foods that it's even pointless to try to eat anymore. My roomie brought home a container of squares (I may be speaking in Canadianisms now so Americans bear with me) and I had a Nanaimo bar. It was really small and I just wanted a little taste. SWEET - BLECH and then a stabbing pain in my head. I guess it's easier to stay on plan if my body rebels every time I eat something not on plan. Although I'm not really the most fun dinner date or invitee to a potluck any longer either.

It does make me wonder though that if any richer than average food can make me feel so awful what the **** is going on with my gall bladder. Also, french fries, no go not even the faux healthy sweet potato fries.

I should also say that I think my body didn't like this stuff before either but it would only bother me occasionally. Now because I don't regularly eat that way again when I do it bothers me immediately and consistently. I think it's like I've gone on an elimination diet and then I have tried to challenge to see what I can still eat. I'm not enjoying the challenge part.
