Ha ha! I went to the washroom and when I came back my ice cream sundae was waiting for me. What a monster! It was three huge scoops of ice cream in some kind of sugar bowl. Holy crap! I think I actually said "Holy Crap!" I knew right away that I didn't want it all but I thought okay I will have a little - I mean I ordered it and I was going to have to pay for it. So I tasted a little - Ugh so sweet! And I used to love ice cream. I ended up eating about a quarter of one scoop and then I just basically played with it until my neighbour was done her pie.

So my realization is this - ice cream tastes gross. I never thought I would say that. It was so sweet and then about an hour later my body said "Why you gonna to play me like that?" And I became bloated and farty and my stomach hurt and I kind of wanted to throw up. I haven't eaten ice cream in 3 months and now my body doesn't like it. I mean really doesn't like it.

So I guess the good news is it only cost me $7 dollars to find out that ice cream is on the no-fly list of things going into my mouth.

I gave up wheat about 2 weeks ago - and I feel way better - but do you think that there could have been wheat in the ice cream (who knows with additives!) or do you think that my body is just enjoying life without crap, or that I have some kind of rich food intolerance since I hardly ever eat it anymore? I don't think it's dairy per se as I can drink 1% milk just fine and I can eat cheese (I just don't ever eat very much of it in one sitting.)

Points to ponder I guess.
It is entirely possible that the ice cream had something added to it. Once I went to the grocery store for ice cream and in an effort to save money I bought the cheaper store brand. I took it home and tasted it as I was scooping some out and it was aweul. Truly disgusuting. Then I checked the ingredients and they had corn starch and wheat in there. WTF?? No doubt out in to 'stretch' it out while being manufactured although the companies call it 'thickeners'. That ice cream went right into the trash.
If I am out at a restaurant and want ice cream I asked the server what is in the ice cream first. There is always an ingredient list on a box somewhere in the place.

I LOVE ice cream. I don't over eat with a lot of foods (unless ungodly portions are given to me, I usually just eat the whole thing), but when there's a tub of ice cream in the house, I'm bad, I have a huuuuge bowl just because it's soooooo good. doesn't matter what brand...

Back to the actual topic, I find that my stomach is really sensitive lately. Don't get me wrong, it's always been tough on me, but yesterday I had a burger and fries (home made) and ten minutes later it was already out. ew! Hopefully today's dinner doesn't treat me so badly...

I'm with you on this as well! I've only been at this for ~9 months, but I sure wish I didn't like things I used to love! I still love almost all of them, lol. Diet Coke from a can is the only thing that tastes completely different to me now - I don't even enjoy it anymore.

To the OP: I don't have problems with dairy in general either, but I DO seem to have stomach issues when I consume dairy fat. I can have skim milk and fat-free greek yogurt with no problem whatsoever, and sometimes I can tolerate low-fat dairy when I have it in small amounts... but I can tell before even leaving the restaurant if there was butter in my meal, as my stomach revolts pretty quickly. This isn't a new problem for me (I spent years having stomach issues that I couldn't figure out), it's just that I was able to identify the specific problem once I began keeping very close track of my food intake. So I wonder if perhaps it was the very high fat content of the ice cream that did you in, maybe on top of some other richness in your meal, that caused your stomach issues?

After losing 100 lbs., sensitivity to dairy products, especially with sugar added, is what started my slide downhill to having my gallbladder removed. I got the same symptoms, feeling sick, gas, bloating, and eventually pain.

Now I have had my gallbladder removed, but my body still can't handle any dairy. It's different for me, I would like to eat it, and still crave it, but I can't.

Me Too! It all tastes just as good to me as it did before! Being at maintenance, I'm learning how to plan my calories so I can eat these things. I do crave them, I do enjoy them, but I've been on maintenance for long enough to set limits. I'm also a daily weigher so I can make sure I am maintaining. This reminds me of another thing. I worked at McDonalds in high school/college and people would always say that once they worked there, they no longer liked their food or fast food in general. This was never true for me I love fast food!

I still like sweets but normally they have to be made by me because I can't stand how much sugar they put in them (when I cook I cut the amount of sugar in half at least). I'd say chocolate is the one exception because I've found brands that are less sweet (too my own determent unfortunately! ).

Also, have you considered you might be midly lactose intolerant? I really only have problems with super fatty/creamy types of things (like haagen dazs ice cream or super cheesy pizza).

I love ice cream. I live in New England, so we have the best of the best in terms of ice cream quality. I can most definitely say that it's the one food I will never give up.

Fortunately, I'm all about the purity of the ice cream, So I'll just have a scoop of black raspberry, no toppings, no cone.
