Fiber supplements and bloating?

  • I have just started taking fiber supplements (yesterday) and I am wondering if I should expect bloating until my body gets used to it? Does anyone else take them?
  • Fiber Suppliments
I have noticed that different supplements have different effects. It most depends on the kind of fiber your taking. Many people find psyllium can really block you up if not careful. I have found that fiber that can be easily mixed into my smoothy works the best. It also makes me lose my appetite between meals when I use it this way.

Another thing I found really important is using organic fiber when I can.

Anything with flax seems to work the best for me and there are so many health benefits.

I recently read a book that said 35 grams of fiber a day is optimum for women to lose weight. This had helped. It is much more fiber than most of us get and supplementation really helps.

I'm sure you know, you need to drink alot of water with them.

I'm not an expert but those are my thoughts based on my research and experience.

Love to hear how it works for you!
  • Thanks for the info Visionary!!
  • I've been wondering about Fiber supplements but I haven't done as much research as I should. I would like to know more about it. Keep us updated with how they work!
  • I use fiber all the time.
You do have to drink lots of water when using them, and I do notice a bit of bloat. Mostly the bloat comes from natural fiber (from food rather than pills/powder.)
I find Chia seeds mixed in my smoothie or in my jam works great without bloat and it really keeps things moving.
  • In supplement form, I do find that I will feel bloated until my body lets go. I would say for me it takes around 24 hours or so after I take supplement.
  • Also wanted to add--I find that vegetables and fruits raw work wonders.
